Flowers that go with Sunflowers

Meagan, on February 3, 2014 at 11:42 PM Posted in Do It Yourself 0 6

I decided on Sunflowers for my October Mountain Wedding. I'm a DIY bride and I do want the flowers to be beautiful so I spoke to a florist. I told her I liked the first thing she showed me but I later realized I do not like what she paired with the Sunflowers. I don't know where to start any ideas? My colors are sunflower yellow, white and majestic navy. I'd like to have the stems wrapped in twine or burlap..

Also, how necessary is a florist? I have 3 bridemaids

Sunflowers are my favourite and I wanted to have them as my main flower, but we are getting married in April and they aren't in season then. You can get them then, but they are hard to find and very expensive. October is a perfect time for them though.

I'm not sure of flowers, but I'd stick to the more wildflower looking ones... daisies and such. There are tons of pictures on pinterest and around the web for sunflower bouquets and arrangements. Have a look and maybe take those pictures into a florist to see what flowers they are and what they think.

I would say to google/pinterest search for sunflower bouquets and get your inspiration from there! As for the need for a florist, that is completely up to you! For me, I definitely wanted to have my local florist do the flowers for me wedding. But I know that tons of brides get flowers wholesale and do everything themselves and it looks lovely! I suppose it's how comfortable you feel doing it yourself. If it's a money issue, there are definitely ways to cut costs and still have great work by a florist. My wedding is small, so I'll be picking up, transporting, and setting up our flowers myself (obvs with help from friends and family). I'm pretty sure that's what saved me a ton.

Anywho, here are just a few ideas I found for you Smiley smile Hope it helps! (oh, I wasn't sure what majestic navy is, so I went with blue lol)

If you want a minimal look, do it yourself. You could get flowers at produce stands (Produce Junction if you have one local), a grocery store or Sam's Club. I think wild flowers would look really pretty, especially since you're having a mountain wedding.

I am very DIY but went with a florist, the biggest reason was storage. I don't have a refrigerated space large enough to hold the flowers, even over night. So, it all depends if you can store them. Do you need venue/reception flowers?
