From round tables to rectangular tables....

Kimi k., on February 27, 2011 at 9:26 PM Posted in Planning 0 30

So, I made it to the KC hall this weekend. I thought they had round tables, but I was mistaken....they have 8 ft rectangle tables. I can still rent rounds but it's just more economic to use theirs... But how do I set up the tables so the room is functional??? Will table runners look stupid on rectangular tables? Ugh!! I hate changes!!

If they provide the white ones I would use those and then if you really want the round, use the as an overlay.... the round by themselves will not cover the table correctly.

I like thatt hey pushed rectangle together and made a larger sqyare in your first pic - it's actually easier to see and chat with sqr/ round than to have to shout down a table

Of course not, table runners were made for rectangular tables. You could set the tables up in a "U" shape (3 tables) so that guest can get in and out of their seats easier, lining them up row by row might be a little crowded.

I was hoping for round tables but got the rectangles as well... I'm more worried about the "center pieces" now... instead of one... how the heck many do we put lol?!

@ Renay... what kind of centerpieces where you thinking of doing?

I really like the way dsmchix2nv posted the tables

You can put a small votive, a vase of flowers or candles, and then another small votive

We are actually doing the rectangle tables butted up against each other to make a square since our venue has rectangular tables. We are doing a runner across to mask the table seam and 3 centerpieces down the length. It will look great.

FMM, you and I are on the same wavelength!!! What size table linens are you using? I'm looking at that right now!

Our tables are 6ft tables. We are doing 60x102 tablecloths (one for each table), which will give a 15" drop on the sides. We thought about doing floor-length, but I hate it when a tablecloth sits in my lap, plus the floor-length were just too expensive. Besides, for an outdoor, summery wedding (which mine is), I like the look of the shorter tablecloths.

I was first planning on using rounds as well, and now that we are having our wedding in a church, I know its the rectangle tables that I will be working with, and I'm wondering the same thing as to how many centerpieces I will need for one table. I also plan on buying my own linens (from what I've found its cheaper than what I've been quoted to rent them) what size linens would you ladies recommend for the 8ft or 6ft rectangle tables? I'm not picky on if it touches the floor or not, just as long as it comes half way to the floor is fine with me.

@Chelsea, for a 6ft table: 90x132 goes to the floor. 60x102 goes halfway (15" drop). For an 8ft table: 90x156 goes to the floor. 60x126 goes halfway (15" drop). From what I've found, the 60x102 and 60x126 are significantly cheaper than the floor-length linens, which is why I chose not to go with floor-length. As far as centerpieces go, for a long table 3 centerpieces are best, from what I've been told.

This is the linen company I'm using. They have a nifty PDF you can download and it will tell you every size cloth for every size table. Just click on this link and scrolll down to the bottom where it says "Size Chart" and WALA!!!

Thank you FMM!! I was thinking I'd have to do 2 table cloths (1 for each table) and then my infamous burlap runner down the seam. I'm doing a schmorgageboard of mason jars, all colors, shapes and sizes, so I was going to just stagger them down the tables.....

Thanks so much FMrsMcCown! I'm doing mason jars as my centerpieces, and for one centerpiece I was planning on using for a round table was one large jar and then two smaller one each side.. so I guess that would mean I would need 3 large jars and 6 smaller jars per table, so that's 9 per table if I'm doing the math right lol. I'm really liking the picture that dsmchix2nv posted and putting the two rectangle tables together to make a big square table with the table runners down the middle. Would you all thing that when two 8ft tables are pushed together they would seat 10 people?

When you butt two 6ft tables together it will seat 10, so if you butt two 8 ft tables together, I imagine it will fit 12 people.

I've calculated 12 people to sit at the 2, 8ft tables butted up!
