Ugh...Candy Buffet Question! HELP!

Lauren20, on April 19, 2010 at 9:36 PM Posted in Planning 0 18

Okay ladies. I need you opinions. I am doing a candy buffet, and I am having a dilemma. I don't want people eating the candy until we cut the cake. The problem is I don't know where to put the candy to prevent people from eating it. Can I put it on the cake table and hope people get the message?? Suggestions please. Thanks.

Would it be possible to get some kind of wheeled table/station and only bring it out after the cake cutting?

Separate table next to Wedding Cake?

    Together with Wedding Cake?

Oh, I love those examples Elena! If a wheeled cart is not an option, maybe have it with the cake. I don't people would dare go near the cake table until you allow them. Well, I would hope not anyway...

Okay, so I LOVE the picture of the candy with the cake. I think I will go that route and have the DJ announce that it is for later. Smiley smile

Okay, so my fiance is amazing. I was telling him about my idea with putting the candy on the cake table, and he thought of something amazing. We are going to put the cake in the middle of a rectangle table. On each side of it we are going to have candy. He was like lets do his and hers candy. We are each going to pick like 6 things of candy to put on our side of the cake. So cute. He is the best. Smiley smile

You could have someone to stand guard if you are worried about people eating the candy. You could use the person that hands out the programs. Just to let everyone know that they can't until after the cake. I like the pic of the candy with the cake

I like the idea of his & hers candies! Fun! Perhaps if all the other suggestions don't work for you, you could post a discreet sign on the candy table regarding your wishes. You might also hold off on putting out any bags/containers for them to scoop their candy into until after the cake? Perhaps this could be a job for one of your bridesmaids?

Can I ask why you don't want people to eat the candy until after the cake? or more specifically why you are concerned? I guess I'm just curious, it seems that most people are going to be seated for the meal so it's unlikely they will be eating it then, and usually the cake cutting is while people are still finishing up with dinner. I guess I'm wondering if that many people are going to attack it, even if you don't do anything to stop them?

My concern with not having containers or scoops out is that people will use their hands (and well that would gross me out a LOT...)

I don't want people eating it because I want to see it set up and full, and I want everyone to see it this way. Also, I want people to eat the dinner I'm paying for and not just eat candy. The candy AND cake are serving as dessert so I want people to wait.

You're going to think I'm nuts, but if it were me, I would drape a large cloth over the table and, at the appropriate time, the FH and I would pull it off with a dramatic flourish. But we're cheesy and silly like that.

I would suggest to ask to your venue staff or a close friend to have somebody to work candy bar. That way you'll avoid an empty candy bar
