I grew up on a family farm in South Georgia surrounded by women who were excellent cooks. From a young age you could find me standing on a stool so I could see over the countertop “helping” my grandmas make meals for our family and treats for special occasions. When I went away to college, my roommates were from all over the country so they were not near family for birthdays and I decided to bake cakes for them. I got married and we had our first child in 1998 and I began baking and decorating cakes for family and friend birthdays. As my children grew up, I began to get requests from party guests to make cakes. As my confidence and experience grew, I began to make more elaborate and creative cakes. In 2009, I made my first wedding cake for a close friend's daughter. The cake requests continued to come in. In 2013 I wanted to make sure I was doing things the right way and got a Cottage Food License, business license, and sales tax permit. Artful Cakery by Julie was officially opened for business! The more creative, unique, and elaborate a cake, the more I enjoy it!

From a young age, art has been a passion of mine. Family and friends have always noted I favored the creative side of life. Recently, my creativity has found a new way to shine through my love for cake decorating. One of the best choices I made was to learn how to bake, decorate, and eventually manage a bakery team. I am honored to be a part of such pivotal and memorable occasions-whether it be birthdays, anniversaries, and of course weddings! I love expressing my creative side through my work and I thrive in an environment that consistently pushes what I know and what new methods, styles, and techniques I can pick up along the way!
