About

Asian Art Museum is a historic wedding venue located in San Francisco, California. Built in 1917, this stone beaux-arts structure used to function as the city’s main library. This impressive building is four stories high, with beautiful columns, stairs and inscriptions. Italian architect, Gae Aulenti, turned the library into the stunning museum it is today. Asian Art Museum offers couples multiple indoor venues for their unique celebration.

Facilities and Capacity
Couples can accommodate up to 250 guests at this city venue. As soon as your guests enter the lobby, they will experience marble surfaces, carved stone arches and antique light fixtures. You can make your entrance on their Grand Staircase or exchange your vows there, while your guests look on from the Loggia above. The Loggia is an airy space that has a decorative barrel vaulted ceiling. Asian ceramics in glass cases are nearby for guests to enjoy while sipping cocktails. For your reception, you can move into their adjacent Samsung Hall. It features glass-filled arches crisscrossed with intricate metalwork, impressive columns and a huge bronze chandelier. If you prefer a contemporary setting, the Asian Art Museum also features two courts on the main floor. The spacious North and South Courts feature a minimalist design, and can accommodate a variety of events.

Services Offered
This unique venue has been a part of the wedding industry for over 10 years. Couples can utilize their diverse spaces for a day that flows seamlessly from start to finish. Before your celebration begins, you can get ready in the Peterson Room on the first floor. It features oriental rugs and Asian-inspired decor. While you can bring in your own vendors, they have a list of nine caterers that you may choose from. Additional services include:

  • Wireless Internet
  • Additional event time
  • Security
  • Museum event liaison

The Asian Art Museum was the venue of our wedding and the most beautiful place we could have ever imagined getting married. Lorraine and Minda were great to work with and very responsive and flexible. There were a few moments when I thought I would have to change my wedding date and Minda calmly said "we'll figure it out" and I knew I made the right decision. At the last minute, we were supposed to use a podium for our ceremony we found out it was destroyed by a party the previous week, Lorraine and team scrambled to find us a music stand that was perfect and most importantly usable for our ceremony. We had very little to worry about and a lot to be grateful for. It is not a budget friendly place, but it is worth every penny. The Asian Art Museum takes care of all your location needs and if you hire McCalls like we did, wedding day works like a well oiled machine, everyone knows their places and all emergencies have been dealt with and had before, they are all trained for everything!

We are so blessed to have our wedding at the most amazingly beautiful wedding venue in SF! BEFORE we even booked the museum, Minda, their events coordinator, provided exceptional service. She quickly responded to my thousands of questions and provided us with countless tours of the venue to help us finalize our decision. She also helped us select wedding vendors that have experience working in the museum. Without a doubt, Minda contributed to the success of our wedding and keeping me sane during the crazy wedding planning months.

As for the venue itself, the museum is a gorgeous space and also a very unique venue compared to other Bay Area locales. We had the cocktail hour at the loggia where the staircase and intricately designed ceiling make it quite a spectacular space to drink it up with your guests. Also our guests were able to enjoy the museum galleries. The dinner was served in Samsung Hall, where the tall ceilings and beautiful windows make the space feel incredibly grand.

This venue does come with a hefty price tag, but if you have been doing research with SF venues, their rental fee is actually competitively priced as compared to Flood Mansion and Bentley Reserve. Also you can think of the rental fee as a sizable donation to support the arts and culture of San Francisco.

The museum contains priceless artwork so there are a lot rules vendors need to deal with. An experienced wedding coordinator handled all those vendor rules for us, and we weren't stressed about it at all during the wedding day. We LOVE LOVE the museum and we are so happy that we could have our wedding in one of the most beautiful museums in SF (or even the country)!
