About

I am an ordained minister, and I officiate weddings, all sorts of wonderful weddings - large and small, opposite sex and same sex, religious and secular, formal and informal, first, second, and third weddings (even a fifth), weddings inside the church, outside the church, and lots of other locations.

I have been marrying couples since 1998, when I graduated from Columbia Seminary (Presbyterian - PCUSA) and first became licensed (United Church of Christ - UCC). I was ordained in the International Christian Community Churches and later also affiliated with Rose Ministries. I have served as a pastor to two progressive communities of faith, but spend most of my working time as a university adjunct, teaching Religion, Ethics, Critical Thinking, and Humanities courses.

I have enjoyed every unique and beautiful wedding experience. I have married couples in high winds on top of Chimney Rock, on a bridge over the Chattahoochee River, and in peaceful valleys surrounded by mountains.

I have married couples in castles, in apartments, in churches, with language interpreters, in back yards, under twinkling lights in downtown venues, and on gorgeous farms with receptions in the barn.

I have married dear friends and lovely strangers whom I met on the day of their ceremony. Whether you are having a traditional wedding, or something entirely fresh, I am happy to officiate and help you enjoy yours.

The small lovely sanctuary and beautiful grounds of Abiding Savior Lutheran Church in Fairview, NC, is the perfect spot for destination weddings of 100 or fewer guests.

If you don't have a venue, we can help.

Chrystal is an amazing individual. My partner and I are so thankful that we were able to work with her for our wedding day. Not every officiant would be happy and smiling getting soaked due to rain during the whole ceremony! (: What an incredible day. Chrystal was prompt in her response to our inquiries and requests. We live in Raleigh but planned our wedding in Asheville and Chrystal was able to meet with us while we were in town a couple months before our wedding to plan the ceremony. Chrystal personalized the ceremony and took into consideration our uniqueness. We did a unity painting and she was able to create dialogue describing how the painting was a symbol of our unity. She also was very respectful and made the ceremony what we wanted, rather than following traditional ceremony layouts.
Other awesome things: The day of our wedding it was pouring rain. She contacted us that morning to let us know other possible days that she was available if we wanted to reschedule due to the weather and having an outdoor ceremony (how thoughtful and sweet!). Also, I found this out way after our wedding day, but apparently another wedding was happening in the gardens where we were scheduled to get married, and the other couple's officiant did not show. We actually were delayed and arrived approximately 10-15 minutes late to the location. So, while Chrystal was patiently waiting the other couple asked her to perform their wedding. Chrystal let them know that she was scheduled and booked for our wedding and that our wedding was the one she was scheduled and doing that day. I am not sure the specifics of the conversation, but all of this is just a testament to how awesome Chrystal is and that when you decide to work with her, she makes a commitment to you and your big day!
We loved everything, Chrystal! Thank you for making our day so memorable and using your powers to pronounce us married! <3 Kaitlyn & Adam

Chrystal is amazing! My wife and I had an immediate connection to her and she put together a wonderful ceremony. She went out of her way to make sure our day could happen.

Chrystal treats each celebration with the same care she would for a family member. She is a very warm loving person whose integrity and professionalism is without. Question! She also takes the time to unselfishly mentor new ministers. What an incredible lady!
