Historic Holmes Theatre is a historic theatre and ballroom wedding venue located in Detroit Lakes, Minnesota. The beautiful and charming facility offers couples and their loved ones a unique and unforgettable experience. The building was originally constructed in 1931 as the Detroit Lakes Junior High School, and was later abandoned. In 2002, it was renovated and reopened as the Historic Holmes Theatre. The on-site staff is happy to work alongside their clients to develop the wedding of their dreams.

Facilities and Capacity

Historic Holmes Theatre is proud to offer three different indoor event spaces for you to choose from, including the Conference Room and Midwest Bank Ballroom. The elegant ballroom provides a memorable backdrop for wedding photographs that can be cherished for a lifetime. Up to 350 guests can be accommodated in the ballroom, and WiFi is provided to stay in touch with those who couldn't make it. The conference room is a 17’x24’ space featuring excellent natural lighting and large windows. Historic Holmes Theatre has parking available for all guests, and the venue is wheelchair accessible.

Our beautiful art-deco theatre is also available for rent, and makes the perfect setting for an on-stage wedding! Located across the hall from our Midwest Bank Ballroom, this 761-seat historic theatre allows you to hold your wedding ceremony just steps from your reception. Not only is this convenient for your guests (and for you!), this also provides for a seamless experience to make your day extra meaningful.

Special pricing is available for couples who choose us for both their ceremony and reception.

Couples can feel taken care of and relaxed when they choose to host their wedding at the Historic Holmes Theatre. You are welcome to host both your ceremony and reception at the facility. The on-site wedding planner will help make important decisions to allow for the entire process to run as smoothly as possible. On the day of your celebration, the staff is happy to assist with the setup to give you and your loved ones one less thing to worry about. Additionally, we provide a list of professional and fully-licensed caterers and bar service vendors with whom we have strong working relationships.
