About
On WeddingWire since 2023
Palm Lodge (circa 1912), a historically designated property in the Redlands district, is an Old Florida Wood Frame Vernacular House & Tropical Garden with all of its original bells and whistles.
This magical property began with an incredible story about the fabulous Colonel Henry Johnston Wallace from Kentucky who was known as the Wizard of Palm Lodge Grove for his ability to cultivate over 8,000 incredible specimens of tropical fruits and flowers - many not found anywhere else in America. • Back in 1920's Palm Lodge's Colonel Johnston had worldwide recognition for his wizardry in the garden.
He grew almost all of his plants from seed. Palm Lodge was a showplace and once had 30,000 visitors from afar including botanists, a band of Kurds from Central Asia, Arabs from Bagdad, a venerable doctor of philosophy from Tripoli, orange growers from Palestine, botanists from China and France, and a lord and lady from England, and even Henry Ford was found on the registry.
Once you enter the property, you’re transported back to a simpler time on two acres of a glorious paradise whose stellar secret gardens showcase its grand dame: Palm Lodge.
This magical oasis features both colorful butterfly and verdant gardens that are also filled with hundreds of rare botanical specimens, orchids, and fruits including Lychees, Canistel, Mamey, Mangos, Avocado, Star Fruit, Mandarin, and more. You’ll also find tall palms of all types, two Banyan trees, an African baobab tree and several massive Kapok trees with Pink Flowers.
• It's truly a horticultural dream! •
The main house boasts an oversized porch and a metal scallop roof, that gleams and glistens in the South Florida sunshine.
Upon entry, the foyer greets you with volume ceilings, polished wooden floors, two airy salons, and windows with chain drawn shutters. There is also an oolite fireplace built by early area settler, Edward Leedskalnin, of Coral Castle fame.
Palm Lodge is accessible for first time for hire for Photo & Film Shoots, Short Term Rental, and occasional small events like bridal showers, baby showers, and rehearsal dinners. Why Palm Lodge:
This lush oasis feels worlds away from the hustle and bustle of the city, providing a perfect location for film/photo shoots, small events, retreats, wellness and yoga retreats, corporate meetings, family gatherings, and more.
There are multiple indoor and outdoor spaces that can be used in countless ways, while two acres allow for ample parking.
A charming carriage house with a +1,000 square foot covered Terrace, built-in bar, and brick barbecue creates the perfect backdrop for a reception or for staging and set up. The smart estate also has internet and a Sonos audio system to boot. About the Interior Decoration •
The Old Florida-inspired décor at Palm Lodge is intended to transport you back 100 years by combining some of the original dark wood furniture left behind at the home, vintage white wicker accents, and a deliberate and consistent tropical color palette of pink, white, and green. We wanted Palm Lodge to reflect the spirit and soul of an Old Florida country farmhouse and to embrace the tropical colors of the Sunshine State.
