Hi!! I'm Katie<3 I'm definitely neurodivergent (late diagnosed Adhd, plus lifelong anxiety and depression). As someone who's had to deal with mental health issues for a long time, I have a soft spot for people going (or who have gone through) similar struggles and making sure they get they extra care and attention they need throughout the planning process and wedding day.
In photography, I found the perfect creative outlet and zen activity. Photography and I go back a long time. See pic below of toddler me with a toy camera and kid me with my first point and shoot 35mm camera. If you're ND (neurodivergent), you understand hyperfixations, and I would say photography has been my main and longest running hyperfixation (pretty sure at this point we are never breaking up)!
I went to Western Michigan University and got my BFA in Photography and Intermedia (graduated in 2014). I started photographing weddings in 2015 and haven't stopped since. Doug and I met in 2016 and started photographing weddings together in early 2019.
Outside of photography, I have a wide variety of interests (I'm adhd af so of course I do!). I'm an adventure addict who's in love with camping, hiking, visiting National Parks, etc. I love being out in the wild and sharing that experience with our 3 children. My favorite thing about being a parent is watching my kids learn, grow, become independent, experience things for the first time and take pride in their new found abilities.
I've been into anime and all things Japan since I was 14. I collect vintage kimono and since my kids came along I've been crazy for collecting all kinds of toys and video games (obsessed with Lisa Frank, Barbie, Hello Kitty, Hot Wheels, Pokemon, Zelda, Harvest Moon (grew up with all these games and still play them today), and anything 90s Nostalgia).
I love dancing even though I suck at it (literally trying to watch YouTube tutorials in my spare time to get better).
My taste in music is pretty all-over-the-place. I love me some good 90s/early 00s (everything from Nirvana to The Spice Girls to Oasis to early Lady Gaga to Bright Eyes to Brittney Spears to all those bangers from middle school dances lol. And damn right, I still remember all the lyrics and I'll be singing along from behind the camera as your guests get down at your reception).
I love anything Lana Del Rey, Aerosmith, 80s Donnie Darko, Tears for Fears type vibes. Lately I've been into Grimes, Hana, Melanie Martinez, Mars Argo, and female covers of 90s classics like 'Wonderwall' and 'Iris'. I don't consider myself a Swiftie, but I'm always down for some Taylor Swift and have been listening since the days of 'Our Song' and 'Teardrops on my Guitar'.
I write and I draw, and enjoy anything that gets my creative passions flowing. I love makeup and getting dressed up for no reason at all.
Finally, I truly believe with all my heart that falling in love is the most dope feeling in the world and that life is too short to leave things unsaid!

After graduating high school, I approached photography as a surrogate for drawing. While living in Arizona, after graduating from motorcycle mechanics trade school, I began to delve into photography more intently. Arizona was full of amazing scenery, and a wonderful place to pick up the basics, and much more. I photographed landscapes, sunsets, lightning storms, motorsports, whitewater kayaking / rafting, and daily life.
My time in Arizona was followed by a stint at Olan Mills Studios, then Lifetouch, before attending college to study art and engineering, concurrently. My degree is in Engineering, simply because I had accumulated enough credits for that degree first.
By then, my photography interests had moved to vintage film cameras. Digital photography had depressed the price of many classic film cameras, so as the digital age gathered steam I was shooting on the best of the 1950s film classics: twin-lens medium-format cameras from Germany, and swing-lens / rotating panoramic cameras from Kodak, Graflex, and Japanese companies.
Katie and I met in 2016 while we were working together at the Henry Ford Museum. At that time , each of us had already been working on a photography startup business of our own. We combined business plans, gear, and skills; and began to shoot weddings together. Katie has stronger art skills, while I have a slight edge in the technical side of photography (such as an 8-hour exposure of the night sky, lightning, or the Northern Lights).
We have 3 children together (a son and two daughters), and still enjoy using film cameras on family vacations. I still enjoy motorcycles, long-distance bicycling, racing human-powered streamliners, and have a long history of whitewater kayaking.
And yes, my cameras go with me on those kinds of trips, too. Photography is an interest that can be combined with almost anything else, and has held my attention as few other things have.
We are currently in the process of moving back to Arizona at the end of 2024, where I will be attending Arizona State University for a Bachelor's Degree in Digital Photography.
