History
Kirkbride Hall is a newly restored event venue brimming with rich history in both place and name. Built between the years 1883 and 1885, Kirkbride Hall was the chapel of the former Northern Michigan Asylum. The grand estate that was built to be a sanctuary for the mentally ill is today reborn as The Village at Grand Traverse Commons, a thriving economic center and residual community that melds old-world, historic charm with cosmopolitan vitality. While still maintaining modern elegance, Kirkbride Hall’s history of being a chapel makes it a venue that effortlessly blends tradition and innovation. Kirkbride is the perfect venue for creating an unforgettably unique wedding filled with the classic romance of arched ceilings and stain glass windows.
Location
Over the last twelve years, The Village at Grand Traverse Commons has received national and international press for its unique story of rebirth and renewal into a mixed-use neighborhood. It is one of the largest historic preservation sites in the world. The Village is a community unto itself with residents, businesses, boutique shops, a winery, brewery, and bakery. Among the over a hundred businesses on-site, there are several wedding vendors including a wedding planner, florist, photographer, wedding dress shop, audio visual production company and more! Surrounding The Village are hundreds of acres of parkland, historic barns, a botanical garden, and miles of hiking trails.
