About

"I believe that jewelry should not overpower a woman's natural beauty; it should simply enhance it," says designer Margo Morrison of the aesthetic sense that has inspired her to create a line of semi-precious and pearl jewelry known as Margo Morrison New York. "My philosophy resonates with women of all ages. The great thing about my jewelry is that it looks young and edgy on a 20-year-old, yet elegant and sophisticated on a woman of 60."

Morrison's artistic approach to designing jewelry grew from a desire to find the perfect balance between positive and negative space. "I became fascinated by the idea of suspending stones, the way music notes are suspended on a staff. There's the sound of the note and the silence between. Stones need space, too, for a harmonious design."

This statement reveals a great deal about Margo Morrison. Growing up in Cleveland, Ohio, her parents instilled in her a great love of music and art, taking her to the opera and museums as early as age five. When she was seven, Morrison began studying classical piano—loving both the musical and the tactile experience of it—and performed as a soloist with an orchestra at age sixteen. Continuing her sixteen years of study, Morrison also pursued a degree in journalism, founding and publishing a cultural arts guide in Miami, Florida, then produced a classical musical festival in the Hamptons and spent several years as an interior designer. Morrison also draws inspiration for her designs from her travels to South Africa, Europe, Central America and the Middle East.

Combining semi-precious stones and pearls with Swarovski crystal, she finishes each piece with toggles that are cast from grass, twigs and berries. The result is a refined, sophisticated look that has been described as "visual music."

Blake Lively, Julianne Moore, Julia Roberts, Sharon Stone, Brooke Shields, Karen Allen and Gwyneth Paltrow are part of Margo's growing celebrity clientele, wearing her jewelry on camera and off. Twenty-year-old Blake Lively, star of the hit show Gossip Girl and Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants films, combined eleven Margo Morrison necklaces to create her own look at a recent press event, a look that showed up in over 15 fashion magazines and fashion websites. She told Margo, "Without your necklaces, my outfit wouldn't have been anything." And 56-year-old Indiana Jones star Karen Allen has said, "Your jewelry goes with my style of dressing. With an elegant gown or just jeans and a sweater, I add a Margo Morrison piece and feel beautiful."

Margo's collections are carried in exclusive boutiques and department stores throughout the United States, Canada, England and Japan. Editors of Japan's top fashion magazine, Madame Figaro, recently voted her "one of the top 15 most exciting jewelry designers in the world." Her pieces have appeared in the pages of Vogue,Elle, Marie Claire, People, Lucky and dozens of other publications.
