Never Again
We hired them (more specifically Adrian Wilkinson) per recommendation of Cortez from Spin It Live LLC. We booked Cortez for our wedding Sept 2020. Due to the pandemic, we postponed and had to book for another date. Cortez was booked for the new date So he recommended Adrian at Party Boys LLC... we assumed a recommendation would mean that Cortez thinks Adrian qualifies to DJ events. Absolutely not.
We filled out a questionnaire provided to us. We thought, it would help with Adrian’s preparation. The weekend before our wedding, Adrian I formed us he would review the questionnaire. We chat to him the week of the wedding, he had not reviewed his own questionnaire that he asked us to fill out. He said him and his assistant would review and practice it in the next few days before the wedding. It was extremely evident they did not.
Things they did well:
- Showed up to the event
- Have some equipment
Things they did not do well:
- Play the right songs
- Have working lapel mics
- Provide an extra microphone for scripture reading at the ceremony (we requested for this)
- Turn up the music during the ceremony, we were unable to hear it as a queue to talk out
- Unprepared for any of the events we listed in the questionnaire (in order). They waited until after the ceremony to stop the bride and groom to ask. We had specific requested that they review THEIR OWN questionnaire prior to the wedding. We requested that they ask all their questions prior via phone or text. Nothing. Crickets.
- In our phone call the week of the wedding, it was evident they had not reviewed their questionnaire. I suggested we could provide them with a list of songs via Spotify, Adrian declined saying he will download songs to our preference. He texted two days before the wedding requesting a playlist... very unprofessional and last minute. By then, I had to chauffeur family members between Louisville and Lexington and finish last minute touches for the wedding. They need to prepare better.
- The questionnaire asked for DJ personality preference. We responded “very outgoing”. They were so dull...sitting like a rock. The wedding guests we spoke to ALL MENTIONED how awful the DJ and his assistant were.
- We also changed the order of events in their questionnaire. We disclosed this in our phone call the week of the wedding...Adrian said he’d practice it with his assistant. They didn’t. I had to search my emails for the questionnaire to show them the order of events at the reception in between the fact that we still had pictures to run to and we had not had dinner yet. These were things we expected, we knew we’d be busy on the wedding day. We ASKED Adrian to review his questionnaire and ask questions beforehand. They did not. They were just winging it.
- We told them our preference as far as genre goes. They did not stick to it.
- The sound system was extremely low. We asked them to turn it up.
- They were extremely unaware. They did not read the room. When they played a good song, people were really hype and gathered on the dance floor. Then, they did a total 180 and played an awful song. The crowd all sat down staring at the DJ. This should be a clue. It was not... they need to learn to read the crowd.
