Ponderosa Weddings & Events is a stunning barn and farm wedding venue located in Smithville, Texas. This rustic wedding venue is situated on the banks of a gorgeous pond, and can play the perfect host for a wedding of any size. This family-run wedding venue and event-planning company has been servicing couples for over 25 years and appreciates the importance of catering specifically to their clients’ needs. This venue offers couples two breathtaking spaces for their wedding ceremony and reception, blending the natural beauty of their East-Texas farm surroundings with all of the comfortable modern amenities required. Ponderosa also offers couples additional vendor packages, from planning and coordination, to catering, photography, entertainment - helping provide couples with an all-inclusive wedding package.


Facilities and Capacity
Ponderosa offers couples access to a beautiful and rustic 2,400 square-foot barn featuring a number of striking amenities. This fully air-conditioned barn venue can seat up to 170 guests indoors, and unlimited guests outdoors. These gorgeous spaces feature a stunning reclaimed pine and cedar wood arbor, a 600 square-foot dressing suite with overnight quarters, and a sprawling beer garden and patio. The space also offers a catering kitchen, two cedar and pine wood bars, and ample outdoor parking.

Ponderosa provides couples with sprawling wedding ceremony and reception spaces, both indoors and outdoors, featuring gorgeous handcrafted barnwood farm tables and rounds, as well as striking hand carved wooden ceremony benches. Couples are given access to a huge network of trustworthy professional wedding vendors, and are invited to use Ponderosa’s own five-star rated catering company, Urban Cowboy, at a discounted rate. Nice venue but unable to own their mistakes

People tend to only leave reviews that are either extremely positive or negative. In my case, I’d like to leave a fair and balanced review based on our recent experience with having our wedding at this venue to help inform those who may be considering this location for themselves.

The good

The venue is absolutely beautiful with rolling countryside, a gorgeous barn, and even a heart-shaped lake. The micro wedding packages were perfect for our smaller event. The owner also provided helpful recommendations for preferred vendors for a wedding coordinator and shuttle service. Being able to get ready on site in the groom and bridal cabins was convenient. The ceremony by the lake and reception in the barn was perfect. We loved not having to commute between the ceremony and reception. Being able to bring your own drinks to be served by a licensed bartender was also great to have what we wanted and save on costs. The staff the day of the event was absolutely wonderful. The event manager Jose was incredibly friendly and helpful as was all the staff on the day of our wedding. All of the food catered in house was delicious, though it was not what we had selected in writing before the wedding.

The not so good

Interactions with the owner Chris were sometimes challenging. He made it clear that the onus for being organized rests with the client and that I need to use highlighting in my emails to keep "us" organized as he has over 150 events per year.

While the food we received was delicious, 3 out of 4 things were not what we ordered by written communication. After I wrote a polite email with the feedback about the food being wrong per what was in our written communication, rather than beginning with an apology, he fired back with all the “favors” he did for us like pay two managers $45 an hour -not requested- and give us a discount we requested. He eventually admitted he made a mistake and made no effort to rectify it.

Pricing is less than transparent as the discount we requested was the 10% first responder discount advertised on the company website as my husband and I are both first responders. We only received the discount on one of the invoices. I also requested a margarita machine at the beginning of our interaction and was invoiced $200 at the time of the contract only to be later told that it may not be available and ultimately was charged $250.

All in all, if you keep track of exactly what was agreed upon and you don't sweat the details being off, the location is beautiful and your guests will have a good time.
