About

Mazel Tov – Congratulations on your up coming wedding!

Rabbi Janise Poticha will assist you in creating this significant milestone in your Jewish lives and those of your family’s and friend’s. Integrating traditional Jewish rituals with modernity, Rabbi Poticha will work with you to create a sacred and meaningful ceremony as you are making the transition from being a single person to committing yourself to another, translating your deep and abiding love into the ceremony of marriage. This means not only the sharing of an address but also dreams, aspirations and goals.
Whether this is your first marriage or you are a divorcee, widow/widower, Jewish tradition believes that when one marries one becomes a complete person. Judaism views marriage as a sacred agreement between two loving companions.
This legal and spiritual partnership is compared to the covenantal bond between G-d and the Jewish people.

A great philosopher wrote: “From every human being there rises a light that reaches to heaven. When two souls are destined to find each other, their streams of light flow together and a single brighter light goes forth from their united being.”

The Prophet Hosea wrote: ““I will betroth you with righteousness, with justice, with love and compassion.”

Not only is Rabbi Janise Poticha available to officiate at your wedding, it will be a great joy for her to officiate at your baby naming or any Jewish life-cycle event.

Wonderful Rabbi for the wedding and beyond

Rabbi Janice Potica officiated our wedding at Deity on November 23, 2019. She was wonderful and we had such a great experience with her. We ended up with so much more than a vendor—we were worried about having a rabbi who feigned knowing us too well, or the opposite—an officiant who came across as a stranger with no connection to us.
Rabbi P was the third person we interviewed, and it was obvious from talking to her that she had much more of a presence. We initially had a phone call with her and got a good vibe that she was the type of officiant we were looking for – warm, professional, and articulate. We had three planning meetings. In the first one, we got to know one another and got ceremony overview. She turned out to be amazing. She has been a rabbi at multiple synagogues in New York for a long time, and really knows how to manage the wedding experience seamlessly. We met her at a restaurant on the Upper West Side, and one of her congregants recognized her while walking on the street! It was evident that she’s a widely loved and respected person in the NYC Jewish community.
In the second meeting, we were given the options and explanations of all the elements of a Jewish ceremony. The homework was to decide which elements spoke to us most and decide what we want to include and what we do not want to include. She tailored a wedding just for us, navigating a couple of tricky family members and helping us find the Jewish traditions that would be the best for us. Our final meeting was to go over all our decisions and finalize the ceremony details—by our wedding day, we were very well prepared. Rabbi Potica explained everything so clearly and beautifully—I even got emotional talking about the ceremony! These planning dinners turned out to be really enjoyable, as she’s a great person to talk to.
On the day of our wedding, Rabbi Potica was there on time and helped set up the space with all the items she needed. She led the ketubah signing and of course the ceremony. Everything she said during the ceremony was beautiful and meaningful. She took bits and pieces of what she had learned about us and put it together to make a very touching speech.
Rabbi Potica was wonderful. We highly recommend her for any reform couple looking for a meaningful Jewish wedding ceremony.
