About
SMRPD opens its facilities to rentals for canyon and non-canyon residents. Buildings can be rented individually or together; parks can also be rented. All renters must complete a Facilities Use Application.
The Silverado Fairgrounds & Community Center is the site of the first schoolhouse in the canyon. In 1961, Orange Unified School District transferred the property to SMRPD. It consists of two buildings connected by a concrete deck. One has a large kitchen with a commercial stove.
The Center is used for a variety of meetings, classes and activities. It is available for rent for private activities such as weddings, birthday parties, holiday dinners, home schooling, and meetings. The Center sits in a one-acre park (or Fairgrounds) with a large grassy area, graceful trees, picnic tables, sitting benches, full-sized basketball court, racquetball walls, and playground. Lights are available for night activities.
Modjeska Community Center & Park built in 1947 by a group of residents was originally a volunteer fire station in the heart of Modjeska Canyon. SMRPD took over the building in 1970 and converted it to a community center with a large meeting room and kitchen. Since then, the community has used the center for a number of activities and rented for wedding receptions. Across the street from the Community Center, the two-acre park consists of a lighted basketball area, large expanse of grass, picnic tables, playground and native plant garden. A small trail leads to a gazebo with stunning canyon views.
