History
Originally designed by D.B. Woodruff, The Library Ballroom was built in 1889 by the Macon Public Library and Historical Society to house the city’s first public library, and remained there until the 1920s. Known as the College Discotheque in the 1960s and 1970s, it housed The Allman Brothers first paid gig. After decades of inactivity, The Library Ballroom faced demolition in the 1990s, but major renovations restored it to its prime splendor. In 2007, The Library Ballroom was placed on the National Register of Historic Places.
