Thunderbird Lodge Retreat is a rustic wedding venue located in Yucca Valley, California. Featuring panoramic vistas of the surrounding desert, the venue is nestled close to the Covington Flats entrance to Joshua Tree National Park. This destination serves as a secluded sanctuary for couples celebrating their love and commitment. Owner Lori Portillo and Events Manager Mari Loth is delighted to work with guests to assist with coordinating their special day in the Mojave Desert.

Facilities and Capacity

Thunderbird Lodge Retreat boasts a selection of rental cabins, as well as indoor and outdoor event spaces. Soon-to-be newlyweds can host celebrations of up to 125 guests outdoors, while intimate interior spaces are ideal for small gatherings. Couples can rent multiple cabins to use the shared outdoor areas for their wedding while accommodating overnight guests. Each house sits on several acres of land with the largest boasting 22 acres.

This venue offers a private desert oasis that is ideal for romantic weddings while ensuring guests’ comfort throughout the event. The cabins are equipped with modern amenities like WiFi and climate control for hot days and cold nights. Outdoor facilities include private fireplaces and barbecues, as well as spacious yards that can accommodate rental equipment, tables, and other items. Lori has hosted numerous couples’ weddings here and can provide vendor recommendations if necessary.

Accommodation

Thunderbird Lodge Retreat features seven separate cabins that can accommodate up to six guests. Engaged couples and their guests can rent cabins for a wedding weekend, and they also serve as get-ready suites for the wedding party. Each cabin boasts a full bathroom and kitchen for guests’ convenience. The venue is pet friendly and invites couples to include their furry friends as part of their special day. Lori has lovingly decorated the houses using recycled and repurposed materials, adding a unique charm to each space.

Location

The retreat is conveniently located 10 minutes from Joshua Tree and Yucca Valley. Additionally, Joshua Tree National Park is accessible via the nearby Covington Flats entrance, and the west entrance is only a 20-minute drive away. The retreat is a 45-minute drive from Palm Springs, making it a close yet private wedding destination. Various hiking, sightseeing, and other activities are also close to the cabins.
