About

Those looking for a truly historic Minnesota vacation or a getaway in Stillwater -- a city with a long and colorful history -- will want to indulge themselves in the accommodations offered by the William Sauntry Mansion. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places, this Victorian inn is within walking distance of the historic Main Street of Stillwater.

Built in 1881 by lumber-baron William Sauntry (a first cousin of entertainer Bing Crosby), whose life was truly a rags-to-riches story, this 7,000 square foot home reflects his eccentricities and penchant for opulence. The William Sauntry Mansion has been fully restored and guests experience modern comforts, combined with the nostalgia of Victorian splendor, for an unforgettable vacation experience - Minnesota lodging at it's finest.

Amenities in all rooms include private bath with double whirlpool, fireplace and air conditioning, stereo with CD player and IPod connection, and king or queen bed. Additionally, Tylo Swedish steam shower (Madame LaFuegy & Joseph Room), free wireless internet, and TV/game room represent our attempt to merge the historical splendor of the Sauntry Mansion with the 21st Century. A four course gourmet breakfast is served (on the front Veranda, weather permitting). At check in, wine and cheese reception is provided and can be enjoyed while relaxing on the Veranda or in our gardens which include a replica of the Alhambra Palace Moorish fountain and fern/hosta dale.

Tom and Sandy welcome you to the Sauntry Mansion. As innkeepers of the Sauntry since 1999, we will make your stay in Stillwater one of the most relaxing and enjoyable getaways you’ve had.

Perfect for a small wedding, we lucked out and had our wedding in the Garden. Tom and Sandy were the perfect hosts. We had a small guest list and wanted it simple but elegant and thats exactly what we received. They were able to recommend vendors for our day that worked perfect for our setting. I have had friends tell me it was the best wedding they ever went to. Very elegant garden wedding. Everything went perfect.

Tom and Sandy (the Innkeepers) brought so much personalty and helpfulness to our wedding. They dealt with some difficult guests well and professionally and put my husband and I both at ease. The mansion looked so beautiful inside and out. Everyone that stayed was thrilled with their rooms and the breakfast the next day. Tom and Sandy were so kind as to help me clean my dress when I got it dirty. They did a great job of setting everything up for the reception and ceremony as well. Highly recommended for an event/wedding or just a stay at a bed and breakfast!
