Myrtle Beach Honeymoons

Though this southern beach is known as a hotspot for thirsty spring breakers, for couples on a budget, a Myrtle Beach honeymoon can be full of relaxation and adventure. Situated on the Atlantic Coast in South Carolina, you can enjoy more than 50 miles of shore, plenty of golf courses, arcades, restaurants and even take a ride on one of the country’s tallest Ferris Wheels. While beautiful and warm like many other beaches in the area—including the Outer Banks, Charleston and Savannah—Myrtle Beach is far less expensive and accessible.

If you’re considering heading south for a Myrtle Beach honeymoon, make sure to plan ahead with these tips and recommendations.

Best Time to Visit Myrtle Beach

Repeat after us: Myrtle Beach is not for a springtime honeymoon. That is, unless you want to enjoy your dinner alongside tipsy high school and college spring breakers that flock from every corner of the United States. Instead, book your time from June to August, where weather is ideal and rainfall is little. During the months of July through November, hurricanes are a threat, so try to avoid this time, too.

What to Do in Myrtle Beach

Whether you’re a beach lover or a hiker, there are many activities to fill your Myrtle Beach honeymoon. Here, a few to think about.

  • Walk the Boardwalk: Does anything say summer love quite like strolling hand-in-hand on a promenade? We don’t think so, which is why you can’t miss a late afternoon and evening spent on the Myrtle Beach Boardwalk and Promenade. Just over a mile long, you can bar, boutique and restaurant hop with your hunny.
  • Ride the Myrtle Beach SkyWheel: At 187-feet tall, those who have a fear of heights might have to take a deep breath before boarding this beauty. Inside a Gondola, you will see a 360-degree view of the area—from the city to the sea. Upgrade to VIP for a glass bottom and leather seats.
  • Have a museum day: For art lovers, the Franklin G. Burroughs-Simeon B. Chapin Art Museum is a must during your Myrtle Beach honeymoon, full of art galleries, libraries and more. Here you can see Southern masterpieces, as well as ceramics, photography and more. Hey, it’s a great way to escape the heat, too!
  • Hike through the Myrtle Beach State Park: Drive to this maritime forest that dates back to 1935. Featuring 312 acres, you can camp, hike or enjoy the beaches, as well as learn about local sea life, including dolphins and sea turtles. If you want to go surf fishing during your Myrtle Beach honeymoon, this is the spot!
  • Have a few microbrews: As South Carolina’s microbreweries begin to boom, you can hire a driver and spend the day bouncing between shops throughout the area. Whichever one you like the most, you can send home a case to enjoy once vacation is over.
  • Play at the Family Kingdom Amusement Park: If you and your spouse are kids at heart, reserve a day to visit this 13-acre park with 37 rides. For those who don’t mind a bit of thrill, make sure to take a ride on the Swamp Fox, one of the last-standing wooden roller coasters.
  • See antique cars at Wheels of Yesterday: For car enthusiasts, you’ll be blown away by the vast amount of classic cars displayed at this museum. Expect to see beauties from Chrysler, Dodge, Plymouth and more.
  • Stay at a Bed and Breakfast: While there are plenty of resorts, for a more Southern-inspired way to honeymoon, splurge and book a few nights at a romantic bed and breakfast. With all of the fixins’, you’ll fall in love with biscuits, gravy and of course, your partner.
  • Make a splash at the waterparks: It can be pretty steamy at Myrtle Beach, which makes a waterpark a fun activity for kids or those who are young at heart. With a few to pick from, you can enjoy lazy rivers, slides and more.
  • Go mini-golfing: Believe it or not, Myrtle Beach is the ‘Mini Golf Capital of the World’ with more than 50 courses. No matter if you like jungles, pirates, safaris or dinosaurs, there’s a themed spot for you and your hole-in-one.
