    Wonderful experience!!

    I am so happy to have found Alex for my upcoming wedding. I had a specific style in mind and it was hard to find a photographer that captured it outside off the West Coast. Alex was also super kind about all the COVID 19 issues. We had originally chosen a package that included 10 hours of coverage, and she was flexible enough to include 2 additional hours of wedding day coverage in lieu of an engagement session since we were having an all day fusion wedding. Once COVID hit, we were very concerned about our fall wedding since we had so many guests traveling and we made the call to postpone much earlier than most people did for our timeframe. Alex was really sweet when it came to the non-refundable deposit and allowed us to do an adventure shoot + family photos on our original wedding date and sent us a beautiful album with our pictures instead of letting the deposit go to waste! The pictures came out beautifully and I am so excited to have them printed around our home. I cannot wait for our wedding this fall and I am sure the pictures will be even better!!

    During covid-19, alex was amazing

    Wedding plans sure were not what were expected for the 2020 bride. Alex was SO kind. She came alongside and helped us understand our options, and even made exceptions to her contract such as allowing us to choose a reschedule date within a certain time of the original contracted date without a new deposit. She helped us navigate understand how to handle other vendors when we had questions as well.

    This is a difficult time, but we felt a real, human connection with Alex. She clearly cared about us and did all she could to make us feel valued and cared for during this time. I would recommend Alex to ANYONE. She is all I dreamed and hoped for in a wedding photographer!

    Fantastic Photographer

    We couldn't be happier with how the photos have turned out so far! Alex was very receptive to the elements we really wanted captured and made sure we got all the photos we wanted.

    Stunning Photography, Mad Skills!

    Alex (and her husband) are awesome! The photos are stunning and we feel so grateful to have had Alex capture our special moments. From our engagement shoot to our wedding day, Alex gave us the perfect direction while allowing us to be ourselves!

    Everything was all good until a Pandemic came and her real colors showed

    I have dreamt about having Alex Mari as our wedding photographer since before I was engaged. I've been obsessed with her work. But SO NOT WORTH IT. If you're here trying to decide whether or not to go with her and make the investment, please listen to me and don't.

    With everything going on in the world with COVID-19, we made the decision to move the wedding a bit sooner with less than 10 people, then have a big reception in the fall when hopefully this all passes. We tried speaking with her about splitting up the 5 hour minimum due to this very strange split. She refused to compromised and cancelled on our small intimate wedding of 8 due to "grey areas" in the laws. Which hit hard and I thought was normal but then realized most other photographers were still carrying out a service with caution. And we had to scramble and get another photographer with 4 days until our vows. Additionally, she didn't have the heart to give any of our deposit back because "this time is very hard on my business".

    What showed through was her selfishness and the focus she had on HER business and herself. Which is fine. But there's no empathy . My view is people come first. For her, that is most clearly not her philosophy.

    Hi Laura,

    Please allow me to express again how truly sorry I am that COVID-19 has impacted your wedding plans.

    We had originally booked a 9 hour package for your wedding day in May 2020, but as the virus began to become a growing concern, per your request, I was agreeable to transfer the deposit to a new date in September 2020. We all signed the addendum to this date change. In addition, you shared that you wanted to plan a separate elopement ceremony in April 2020, and requested information on what booking my services for this April ceremony would entail. Your inquiry was made just a couple weeks before the elopement was to take place, but I worked with you closely over the phone to go over details and see what we could make happen in a short period of time.

    At the time we were discussing the potential of these new plans, we were all in the midst of the peak weeks of the pandemic, and I explained that I’d be willing to book separate elopement coverage, but also warned that things were not looking promising in regards to government restrictions for businesses, as other states were rapidly being placed under strict stay at home orders. I explained that I’d be happy to photograph the day, as long as a shelter in place order was not put into effect. At that time, I also reiterated that the likelihood of this happening was unfortunately very probable, given the rising COVID-19 case numbers at the time. You acknowledged that you understood the risks, and were confident moving forward with this understanding.

    As anticipated, a few days after the aforementioned conversation, our state of Virginia mandated a shelter in place which prohibited me from legally traveling to, and photographing the April 2020 ceremony. In addition, at this time you still had not yet signed the contract for the April elopement ceremony and no deposit was placed for this service. So actually, I was never booked, contracted, or paid to photograph this event. At this point, we had only discussed the possibility of it. For the safety of all participating in the event, and in order to abide by the law and the numerous restrictions in place for VA business owners, there was unfortunately very little we could legally do.

    A few days after the April ceremony took place, you messaged me to let me know that you now no longer wanted my services in September, because you expressed frustration that I was unable to photograph the April ceremony, which again, we were never contracted for. You chose to cancel your wedding package voluntarily and due to personal reasons, and not due to the effects of COVID-19, which forfeits any non-refundable retainer placed.

    I know that this is an unprecedented time, and I've worked diligently and closely with you & Grant, and all of my couples to transfer deposits to new dates without additional fees and to offer as much aid as possible. A COVID-19 FAQ page can be found on my website to answer any and all questions regarding our policies for re-scheduling due to the virus.

    I am so sorry that the virus has impacted your wedding in such a manner, and I hope that you’re still able to find joy & celebration in this time. I sincerely wish you & Grant all the best.
