We had a small wedding - 45 people total - and the Crows Nest was the perfect option for us. First, to find a venue in Old Town Alexandria that's right on the water, during peak cherry blossom season with good food and at an affordable rate is a tall order, and Blackwall really delivered! We only used the Crows Nest from 4:30-8:00pm (followed by a post-reception party at O'Connell's Pub down the street), but in that time we had cocktail hour, open buffet of crab cakes and steak, and an hour to mingle. That space + time was plenty because it allowed guests to relax while my husband and I went around the waterfront/Old Town to take photos and then allowed for some great photo ops once we arrived (the Crows Nest really photographs wells!). Second, the food was amazing - everyone raved about the crab cakes and Smith Island cake! - and the staff kindly had all the leftovers boxed up and ready to go promptly at 8pm, per my request. Third, the staff was top notch. I've worked as a server before, and it's clear this staff is very professional. Not only did the waiters have a plate of appetizers ready for us after a long hour of taking photos, but they also made sure my husband and I had full glasses at all times. They also made us plates so we didn't have to worry about going through the buffet line; they were so gracious and accommodating, we really couldn't have asked for anything more. Finally, Elizabeth (the events manager) was awesome to work with because she was so prompt and efficient. I'm sure I must have annoyed the last few weeks before the date (so many last minute questions!) but she was always quick to respond and provide updates. HIGHLY recommend this venue. You can't beat the location, price, and service. -

Amanda Sent on 02/25/2016Elizabeth was so great to work with, and very flexible through all the changes I made. Three days before the wedding I had not decided on a seating arrangement, so she took time out of her day to meet me at the restaurant and walk me through all my options. We came up with something I never would have thought of myself, and it was perfect.
There was no rental fee, just a food and beverage minimum. The food was incredible, and the bartender and waitstaff all did an amazing job. The restaurant provided linens and everything else that was needed, and even waived any cake cutting fee.
The mother of the groom was so impressed by the food, that she's going back to the restaurant for dinner this week! It's also become my mother's favorite restaurant in Alexandria. -

Maria and the entire team at Blackwall Hitch are so friendly, accommodating and professional! Maria specifically went above and beyond to ensure the day was smooth and everything we had hoped. The location is perfect, even in June with the river breeze it wasn't too hot! We also got lots of compliments that it was some of the best wedding food our guests had ever had (including the appz) Definitely recommend BWH for a more low key reception where you are prioritizing time with family/friends, good food and drinks! -
User3022251 Sent on 04/02/2017We had our rehearsal dinner here in the private dining room and it went really well. It's a great space if you have a group of 36 or less, and provides privacy from the rest of the restaurant as well as great views out the windows. Our waitstaff were very nice and the food was delicious. Elizabeth, our main contact, was very responsive and easy to work with. In addition to offering a private space, this was one of the more reasonably priced options we found on the waterfront.
