Great Venue in the Malibu Mountains

Bella Vita Events had the honor of producing events over the last 10 years at the Calamigos Ranch. The venue has been expanding and is always trying to stay up to date, in order to provide the exceptional experiences to our clients. It is a pleasure to work there, and you have the choice in-between several rooms for your event. The Team is flexible and always willing to go the extra mile. Perfect getaway in the city

It was a gorgeous location just be prepared for a large set price tag and non negotiable menu chicken fish or steak or veg option that’s it.
it is a set with everything else if you want to bring your own vendors that’s fine but they have a the their own catering service so they only make what they make so no accommodations for your party so like if you wanted the chef to make enchiladas for a Mexican wedding they won’t do it but the salmon was good so that was ok but if it was a full service venue that would be great but it would probably be more so be prepared for that. Other than that it was great!

Money Hungry and Power Hungry

I DJ’ed a wedding there. DJ’ed a few times there. Always good. But most likely because the bride and grooms always had a coordinator. But this time, no. But its okay. I’ve worked weddings where there were no coordinators. So the venue sends over some docs as usual, I sign them and send it back. The package the bride and groom got from me was ceremony, cocktail, reception, and open dance. I forwarded the timeline to the venue, all good.

On the day of, during ceremony, I get asked to keep the music low and officiant’s mic low. But I said I can’t since their waterfall overtakes the sound and no one would be able to hear...

During cocktail, asked again to keep it down. Not sure why, it was chill jazz music, no big band music. I lower it.

During reception, I’m announcing the grand entrance of the couple, the crowd is hyped up, WHILE THE COUPLE ENTERS, the “VeNuE MaNaGer” comes out cussing, “Turn that s*** off or I will f***ing pull the plug myself!!” THIS WAS INDOORS RECEPTION THOUGH! So I said I’ll lower the volume but keep it at room level. She said “No more music, DO NOT hype up the crowds, NO games, NO speeches, just announce apps, dinner, and desserts. The couple was completely dumbfounded about this. On their end, now there’s no more reception program they worked hard on. But at the same time, service was slow, every staff seemed to be in a bad mood, and the bartender seemed like only helping the younger people and not older guests.

During dinner I went to the “VeNuE MaNaGer” and asked what happen and how to fix this. Got ignored for the rest of the night. I apologized to the bride and groom and even offered to refund a good chunk because I felt bad they spent their hard earned money for this special day, only to get railroaded by the venue.

A week later I sent an email, called multiple times and left voicemails trying to see what happened. Later I learned from other coordinators in the industry circle that the venue wasn’t even supposed to have special events cause of Covid. Only their restaurants were to be open at certain times, but no parties, events, and gatherings.

The most magical wedding venue!!!

The food that Calamigos Ranch offers for weddings is outstanding, truly high end with ingredients, preparation, presentation and of course taste. My husband and I have been trying sea bass everywhere since we had it as one of our main meals at our wedding and still can’t beat the one we had at Calamigos.

The way they do “room blocks” is a bit odd compared to what we are used to seeing (prebooked/paid vs. min. commit) … but we found the team to be very accommodating, helpful, and flexible when it came time to finalize all of the room arrangements.

We stayed on property a few days before and after the wedding, which gave us the opportunity to relax and really enjoy it as both a resort and wedding venue. The staff and particularly the team at the Ranch restaurant on property made it a very special week for us. Special thank you to Helen as our coordinator, bartenders Chris and Barbara, and restaurant manager Tyler! You all made our wedding unforgettable for us and our guests! The venue's beautiful water features and unique elements such as the carousel and ferris wheel helped us capture some amazing wedding photos. Highly recommend the Oak Room at Calamigos and also highly recommend booking the Estate Suites for your wedding night as the suite is absolutely gorgeous and huge! The venue was the perfect size for our 75 guests but can definitely fit way more if needed.

Shayne is always a great!

I am a local planner and I just wanted to recommend working with Shayne. The past couple weddings Shayne has gone above and beyond. Here responsiveness and customer service are incomparable. After covid it has been hard to get many venues to respond in a timely manner. Shayne has been a life saver.
I am grateful to have players like this on my team during an event.

The dreamiest venue ever

THE DREAMIEST VENUE EVER. We were a “covid couple”…. originally supposed to be married in Oct 2020 but had to postpone to Sept 2021 and throughout the entire postponement process, Calamigos was so understanding and accommodating. I could not say enough good things at Calamigos – from the BEAUTIFUL property to the amazing food to the planning team to all in between – everything was best-in-class. Highly, highly recommend!!!!!

Beautiful Place Horrible Experience

My wife and I will be pursing legal action against this establishment immediately.

During a global pandemic they understandably changed policies and procedures multiple times forcing us to have to cancel our wedding and reschedule from December 2020 to May 2021.
Although inconvenient we understood and made the changes per their request which cost us thousands of dollars.

Obviously in may the world was still dealing with Covid 19 and a new strand had been introduced so we pushed it back to December 2021. In August the world went on alarm because of the Delta Variant and because health and safety is a priority we asked to postpone until 2022. This request was asked in order...

This request was asked in order for more of guest to have time to get vaccinated since 60% of our guest will be flying into Califonia which has a vaccine mandate. We were told to that we would vacate the Thousands of dollars we paid if we didn’t have it in December. We spoke to upper management and upper managements managers and no one budged or offered any other accommodations. My suggestion would be to avoid this place at all cost and find somewhere to spend your money that has flexibility and puts the safety of its potential clients over flaky contracts and profit

Bridesmaid and wedding guest

I can't even begin to describe what an amazing venue Calamigos was for a recent wedding I was in. The level of service was like nothing I have ever experienced! Amazing bartenders who remembered your name and drink night after night, servers with the utmost attention to detail - not to mention the delicious food and drink at the Malibu Cafe and the Ranch Club. The atmosphere is romantic, relaxing and it all comes with a personal touch. Candles with your names on them in the beautiful rooms along with complimentary wine and snacks in room - its like they thought of everything to make our stay as comfortable and enjoyable as possible. 10 out of 10 would recommend and we can't wait to go back!!

Calamigos Ranch exemplifies the term, Shangri-La. As we pulled into the Ranch we were greeted with professionalism and class from the valet attendants to the reception desk. Not to mention, a crisp glass of champagne while we checked in.

We stayed at the Ranch for three nights for a wedding and enjoyed every minute of our time there. Our Villa was spectacular- spacious, clean and comfortable. The outdoor shower was probably my favorite part of the Villa, however, the cozy/clean bed and strong air conditioning tie for a close second.

Aside from the beautiful landscape and amenities that Calamigos has to offer, the staff was also top notch. Very attentive and friendly, especially the bartenders! We started our mornings at the Ranch Club (my boyfriend swears by the breakfast burrito and their iced coffee) and spent most of the day relaxing poolside with cocktails and food brought right to our chaise lounge.

The last night of our stay was the Wedding and it was truly out of story book. Beautiful scenery for the ceremony, and the reception cocktail hour to dinner/dancing was nothing short of perfection.

Would HIGHLY recommend Calamigos Ranch to anyone looking for a Wedding venue or retreat type vacation. Thank you Calamigos and hope to be back someday!

Every bit of a 5 star resort!

Calamigos was so much more than we expected. The staff was very professional and accommodating. All of our bags were brought to our room upon check in and we were texted daily asking what time we would like our room to be tidied and if we needed anything. Each event of the wedding weekend was absolutely amazing, no detail was missed. The bartenders at the pool were even kind enough to create a signature cocktail of the for the bride and groom the day after the wedding. This was a terrific wedding venue that I know everyone enjoyed!

Texas sized venue in California!

We attended my nephew's wedding in June. Immediately, when we arrived we were greeted by the valets. Our valet, Asher was beyond helpful, kind and courteous. We shared our bungalow with our two grown sons, who had to leave their wives and children behind in Texas. Our bedrooms were connected by a large bathroom stocked with everything one might leave behind. Our bungalow had a private porch with a bathtub, table and chairs, fountain and an additional seating area. We loved it! We asked for someone from maintenance to come out and check the A/C. Our sons each requested a different cut of steak.(We like our steaks in Texas!) To their surprise, the steaks were cooked to perfection! Additionally, we managed to find time to venture out to the beach. It was a 10 minute drive. We were greeted by a happy, female attendant, who escorted the five of us through a tunnel. At the end of the tunnel was a lovely beach and the beautiful ocean! Awaiting for us were five beach lounging chairs with a towel draped on each one. Nicco, the beach attendant was waiting for us. Upon request, he brought out two paddle boards. Our son and another wedding guest spent an hour paddle boarding along side dolphins!
We attended two events and the wedding at this venue. We were very impressed with the staff and Calamigos. It was truly a memorable stay for us!

What an amazing, beautiful place! This is the perfect setting for a wedding, corporate retreat, or an anniversary getaway. We spent three nights there for a wedding week and were just blown away by the attention to detail and exceptional service the ranch provided at every step - greeting getting out of our Uber, our bags were easily whisked away (and cold stuff put away in our room fridge without asking). Every person we interacted with here were very friendly and helpful from the front desk staff to the bartenders at each of the venues we experienced, to the grounds crews smiling and saying hello as we walked by. This is a sprawling resort with so many different settings...

The pool staff were amazing delivering us drinks in the pool, the bar staff at the Malibu Cafe were exceptional late night, and the breakfasts were amazing each morning at the Ranch Club. For a high-end resort, they think about the little things that people will appreciate along the way - examples like water fill and sunscreen stations at the pool, pool treats like popsicles they walked around and just handed out, and water and snacks waiting for you in your room. Little things that a resort like this could charge for but understands their customer and how these small touches go a long way with their guests. The bungalow rooms (some with outdoor showers) were like an oasis and very private. Highly recommend!!

Phenomenal!

Unforgettable

What an experience! We were blown away by the beauty, staff and service at this resort. From the moment we checked in, we knew it would be an unforgettable few days. The rooms were clean and stocked with snacks and wine. The staff was friendly, helpful and kind. The pool, with the amenities every hour, was such a special touch! Breakfast at the Ranch Club was delicious every morning - the best salmon and lox! Every where you turn there was another beautiful area we were excited to experience. We were sad to leave and already talk about going back again one day. You don’t want to miss an opportunity to go here!

What a treasure!

Calamigos Ranch is such a treasure. We were there for a wedding, and everything was wonderful. The rooms, which look like rustic cabins from the outside are actually beautiful, modern hotel rooms that feel more like suites. There were complimentary drinks and snacks and a bottle of wine, which was so nice at the end of a long day of travel.

The entire staff - from the front desk, to the valets and bartenders - were very personable, friendly and polite.

Would recommend Calamigos Ranch to anyone looking for an awesome getaway!

They tried to screw us over with the contract

As a lawyer, I strongly advise you to think twice before booking this place because they will try to screw you over with their one-sided, incomplete contract. We toured the venue in Mid-May, after that, we started talking and negotiating with Calamigos to figure out the pricing and what’s included in the wedding package. The first thing I noticed when I received the contract is that it did not say anything about what’s included in the price paid. The contract only says that we owe them at least $XX amount of money. Naturally, I requested the manager to attach the wedding package to the contract as an exhibit. They completely ignored my request. I asked again. They ignored my...

This time, they sent me an email saying that if I don’t sign the contract by the next day, I would lose the date (still had not attached the wedding package to the contract or mention a word about the wedding package in the contract). I replied saying that we would not sign the contract unless the wedding package is specified in our written, binding contract. The manager finally revised the contract but only included part of the wedding package in it (for some unknown reasons, half of the wedding package was intentionally left out.) At this point, I could not give them the benefit of the doubt anymore. It is clear that Calamigos Ranch does not want to specify or itemize the wedding package in their written contract. As a lawyer, there is only one reason that I can think of why they would do that – they want to have the option to NOT honor their wedding package. we decided not to go with this venue because the contract basically provides us no protection if anything goes wrong.

Best Wedding Experience Ever!

We had the most unbelievably perfect wedding at Calamigos (Birchwood Room) in March 2021 thanks to their amazing Weddings/Events Team. The Team repeatedly went above & beyond for us - from generously letting us reschedule our wedding (twice!) due to the pandemic, to quickly answering our questions during the planning process, to providing such outstanding service during our wedding weekend, the Calamigos Wedding/Events Team stopped at nothing to make sure we had the best experience possible. Best Venue EVER!

Absolutely beautiful venue. Each "room" feels like your own little world. My wife and I decided to have our wedding here in the Redwood Room and we couldn't have chosen a more stunning place. Cate helped us out along the way and with the final details. Highly recommend booking here if you're looking to have a beautiful event.

Stunning, breathtaking, pure beauty - the wedding office team at Calamigos in addition to their Guest Ranch hospitality service is simply off the charts. These people are veterans who will take care of you every step of the way - they're collaborative, responsive, family friendly, and willing to do whatever it takes to ensure your special day at their venue is as beautiful as can be. We hosted 30 guests at the Birchwood Room during a pandemic (outdoors, masks on, negative tests, etc) and it was simply stunning! If you're looking for a one of a kind venue with a one of a kind staff, take a trip up the PCH and bask in the beauty of this place....

Awful Experience

I am very disappointed in the experience I've had so far with booking my wedding at Calamigos. I've tried to address my concerns with the venue but they've been completely uncommunicative an unresponsive during the whole pandemic so I've decided to address them here. Important information and changes are not shared with us, we try to chase down somebody for answers and are never given clear or concrete answers. I found out through one of our wedding guests who was trying to book a room for our wedding that changes to room availability for the night of our wedding were made and no longer available. The way they are handling weddings that were booked on dates during the pandemic is deplorable. It seems people had positive experiences here years ago but the recent reviews tell a different story.

So disappointed by the professionalism of Calamigos staff. After booking my wedding rehearsal six months prior to our wedding and having time and date confirmed. The week of my wedding I was contacted by their wedding coordinators Helen and Joy that they needed to change either the date or the time of my wedding rehearsal due to them booking another event. After saying this was not an option and that I did not appreciate this last minute changes they pretended to change their tone and say my initial 5 o’clock appointment still works. However, for our wedding rehearsal they did everything in their power to rush us on and off property as soon as possible so that they can...

So disappointed by the professionalism of Calamigos staff. After booking my wedding rehearsal six months prior to our wedding and having time and date confirmed. After saying this was not an option and that I did not appreciate this last minute changes they pretended to change their tone and say my initial 5 o’clock appointment still works. However, for our wedding rehearsal they did everything in their power to rush us on and off property as soon as possible so that they can make more money for their next event. Don’t worry there’s more! On the day of our wedding we arrived at our scheduled two hours before ceremony time and asked Calamigos coordinators (Shayne and Joy) for the safe codes so that our valuables would be kept safe during our wedding. However, safes were inoperable and the Calamigos staff announced that the safes were down over the radio which resulted in the bridal suit getting robbed for over $10,000. In short we are less than thrilled that our wedding was ruined and we spent our wedding night filing police reports. Not only did we spend thousands of dollars on this wedding to get robbed at a subpar 5 star venue. Management, Staff and Owners have been less than accommodating in responses and helping make this right. I do NOT recommend having a wedding a Calamigos.
