    Amazing food, even better service

We planned our wedding for over 2 years, and catering was one of the first things we started planning. At our first tasting with Catering by Bruno's, we knew that was what we wanted – partially because the food was amazing, but mostly because we could tell Joe and John were great people by how they treated us. I could not be happier with how everything turned out. We got many compliments from our guests on both the food and service. Joe and John both reassured us along the way, which was especially helpful because a majority of our planning was during covid. When I dropped my cake the day before our wedding, I called the restaurant to ask if they could bring extra icing to fix it. They handled everything in stride and made sure we were happy. We HIGHLY recommend them and have been raving about them to our friends and family throughout our whole planning process.

We were married at Morris Arboretum and working with Catering by Bruno made our wedding day seem effortless. Both John and Joe were incredibly responsive and up front about all costs associated with the catering. I was able to text Joe pictures of the set up of our centerpieces and other details and he knocked it out of the park. When I entered the tent where our reception was set up, everything looked better than I had pictured in my head and I give Catering by Brunos the credit. I would highly recommend choosing them as your caterer for your wedding. With all of the logistics and small details, they are capable of taking the stress off of the couple.

John was amazing to work with!! He made us feel like family and was extremely willing to work within our tight budget. He blew our family away at the tasting with all his excellent food. From our first meetings at the restaurant to the \"big day,\" he made sure that our experience was painless and even fun. Our venue didn\'t even have running water or a kitchen and John was able to suggest the food and tools that could make it happen! Simply put: the food was great, the service was great, and our experience couldn\'t have been better. \r\nAfter our wedding we received numerous compliments about our food and the professional staff, and we\'ll be recommending them to anyone who will listen! Our wedding was the best day of our lives, and their company was a big part of the success.

My wife and I were so happy to have had Catering by Bruno's play such an important role in our big day. Besides needing the food to taste great, we needed a caterer that could work with us within our budget (around $70 per person not including alcohol) and to feel comfortable with and confident in the people we choose to work with. John and everyone at Catering by Bruno's delivered on all three of those must haves and we are beyond happy with our decision to have them play such a big part in our day.

The food is great but don't just take my word for it, go try it for yourself at their restaurant. John helped us put together a menu we loved and of food we wanted to eat. Throughout the process, he helped keep us "on schedule" with decisions as they needed to be made. There was also a great balance between always being available yet not on top of each other unnecessarily.

One thing that meant a lot to my wife, myself, and our families is that John is people focused, honest, and that the process was transparent. We understood every charge and why it was there. I think the best compliment i can give to them is that they could be charging $10-$20 more per person for their food and their services and it would still be a great value. We have had family go back to their restaurant for dinner after the wedding and would have already ourselves if we didn't live in DC.

BTW, a must try appetizer is their grilled pear with prosciutto, and Gorgonzola.

We could not have been happier with our experience working with Catering by Bruno for my daughter's wedding. John was a joy to work with from the start; fun and very accommodating. His prices are reasonable and he worked closely with us to have the best possible outcome within our budget. I have received numerous compliments regarding the food served at the wedding. The pear & prosciutto appetizer is an absolute must.
In addition, Carmella and her staff could not have been more professional the day of the wedding. Service was ready and waiting even as guests arrived early. Dinner service for 230 people is not easy, in particular at a location like the beautiful Pearl S. Buck Estate which has no kitchen facilities for the tent. Yet, all of the guests were served very efficiently and as the mother-of-the bride I was able to relax and have a wonderful time without worrying that my guests were being taken care of. (As a side note, definitely make room for the butternut squash on your menu!). There was never a line at the bar, and the bartenders were friendly and efficient.
All in all we had a great experience and would highly recommend Catering by Bruno's.

We loved working with Catering by Bruno's! From the first time we visited their restaurant, we felt like family members. John and Carl and the whole staff were fantastic!! During the planning phases, Carl and John really helped us customize the menu, and they were extremely flexible and willing to work with us. The food at our wedding was great, and it was a pleasure to work with the whole team prior to and the day of the wedding. Carmella, the coordinator, helped us come up with ideas we wouldn't have thought of ourselves - little extra touches to really make the venue a little more special. Because of everyone's help and the high quality of this group, our stress level stayed low leading up to and the day of our wedding. The value was fantastic - we feel we got a LOT more than the prices reflect.

Catering by Bruno’s helped us from the very beginning of our wedding planning! Carl did much much much more than the usual caterer does. He was so involved in our wedding planning that I would consider him more of a “wedding coordinator” than just a caterer. Carl and his staff allowed us to have two initial tastings of all the food that was going to be on our wedding menu. We were very continent after trying all of the food, but Carl offered that we come back as many more times as necessary if we felt the need. He met with me many times on location at the Arboretum to go over planning, decorations, set up, and table arrangements just one week before the wedding. The night before the wedding, Carl even made himself available to help us go through a rehearsal of the ceremony. He was wonderful! And, to top it all off, the food was wonderful and not one guest complained that they were hungry or unsatisfied with their meals. Everything was perfect- we couldn’t have done it without him.

We hired Catering by Bruno's for our 2012 wedding party/reception and we were truly let down. Like most couples we had a set budget to stay within and the coordinator at the time agreed that he could make it work for us. Our catered dinner was awful and was nothing like our tasting and what we had agreed to. On the day of the table settings were really nice and setup seemed to work really well but everything food related was way off. For example, the food proportions were off (our dinner salad was served on tiny bread plates and looked as if it had been thrown on the plate...not very appetizing), on the dinner plate you could not distinguish what vegetables you were eating because everything was so browned, both meat choices were served bland and without any sauce, my guests were told that water was not available, etc. etc. As bride and groom we were unable to eat our dinner at the reception so we had it boxed to go, later in the evening we were super hungry so we reached for our boxed dinner and had to throw it away and place an order at a nearby eatery...the food looked bad and was inedible!

There were so many highs on our wedding day but we hit a major low with the food! We expressed our concerns and dissatisfaction with our coordinator but he was in major denial and believed that he provided us with excellent service. As I write this review almost 4 years later it is evident that this experience still saddens and bugs the heck out of me...after all I just wanted my guests to be able to enjoy a decent meal and that did not happen. We fulfilled our contract plus gave a tip but of course will NEVER recommend this company or any of its restaurants to anyone.

** BRIDES BEWARE!!! ** My husband and I used this company for our wedding and were extremely disappointed! John was wonderful to work with in the planning stages, but there was literally no follow through. Our wedding day was a train wreck due to this vendor. While they were are all nice people, I wouldn't recommend them to anyone.

We paid extra to have dinner served family style, and were told that empty dishes would be replenished. There was not nearly enough food for the number of guests that we had. A table of 8 was served one bowl of ravioli with only 5 ravioli in it, a small bowl with slivers of chicken in it, and an equally small platter of fish. The amount of food served would have been sufficient for about 3 people maximum, not 8! We paid almost $90 a head for our guests to starve! When guests asked for more food, they were told that they were out, and were offered them scraps from another table. SCRAPS! Despite paying a ton of money for food, our guests were starving, and my husband and I were EXTREMELY embarrassed!! We felt scammed.

Our ring bearer has a severe food allergy. We discussed the allergy with John multiple times, and also discussed with the "wedding planner" Carmella. We even marked it on the seating chart! At the wedding, the server had no idea about the allergy and no knowledge of anything that John and I had discussed.

Lastly, John advised us that he wanted to be the point person organizing things and acting as the coordinator the day of the wedding. At the wedding itself though, there was no one in sight organizing things. There was supposed to be someone directing our guests back through a garden to the reception site. As a result of no one being there to organize things, our guests walked up through a wooded area in 103 degree heat index weather to a parking lot. Elderly relatives with walkers and canes had to trudge through the woods on uneven ground uphill in extreme heat.

    Horrible vendor. Horrible experience.

    Catering by Bruno's's reply:

When planning a family style dinner that includes 3 entrée options we prepare enough of each to feed 50% of the guests (this plan yields 150 entrée servings for a dinner of 100 people). It is a proven way to ensure the appropriate amount of food for an event.

It's unfortunate after each table's entrees were replenished twice, the pasta option was fully consumed. Chicken and fish entrees were still available throughout the night. We have never run out of food at any event under my tenure.

In family style serving, servers may transfer bowls from table to table, but never transfer guest plates to table or guest.

We were notified via text message at 12:30AM on the day of the wedding about the dairy food allergy of a 3-year-old guest. We met the mother of the child directly and handed her the dairy-free pasta for her child. Once addressed, there is no need to discuss it with individual servers. We ask clients to inform us of food restrictions during the planning stage of events and work to address all concerns during events.

The Morris Arboretum is filled with beautiful gardens and pathways. Our staff makes it clear to guests where the ceremony and reception areas are. Guests follow the flow of the crowd from wedding to reception. Golf carts were used at the event to help guests from the parking areas to the wedding site. There is an ADA-approved paved walking path with less than 5% grade and benches strategically situated throughout the garden, but walking some areas of the Arboretum could be challenging. Guests often take a chance to explore the gardens.

At the event, there was no expression of displeasure, frustration, or embarrassment by guests or our client. Our client left with all indications of being pleased and generously tipped our staff.

2 days after the event, the client expressed their newfound displeasure. As a courtesy, we refunded $1000 even though we felt that we had properly done our job and delivered service as agreed.

Food was a disaster for wedding!!!!!!!

The food was a total let down on the day of our wedding, nothing on our plate looked appealing or what we had agreed to. Smaller portions, tiny bread plates used for salad, no in-season vegetables on dinner plate as promised, bland fish and chicken on plate with no seasoning or sauce, guests were told there was no water!!!!

So many complaints from close family members and friends that attended the wedding. So upset and completely embarrassed that we were taken for a ride! The coordinator assumed no responsibility for the poor quality of food that was served that evening. My only regret on my wedding day was choosing this company....I do not recommend please go elsewhere!!!!!
