Beautiful church!
We were very happy with having our wedding here! We did a more non traditional ceremony and Jimmy was open to that. We had a guitarist which sounded beautiful in the church. The sound traveled well as we spoke without microphones which was a plus!
There are so many different photo opportunities inside and outside of the church that will definitely make our wedding photos turn out PHENOMENAL! We could have stayed there all day because there were so many spots with great lighting and backdrops! -

Like many other 2020 brides, COVID put a wrench in our original plans and we had to scrap our first wedding. I am so happy I was able to find Church of the Holy City and that they had availability on our original date. I worked with James, the church events coordinator, to ensure everything ran smoothly and he was a joy to work with. He opened the church for us for our Rehearsal and extra early on the wedding day so our vendors had plenty of time to set up. The church is actually listed in Washington DCs most beautiful churches and there's a reason for that, it's breathtaking! The stained glass and high ceilings make for a great backdrop to any wedding!Church of the Holy City's reply:

We spent months searching for the perfect wedding venue for our simply elegant ceremony. When we read the history of this beautiful church, we decided to change venues. We knew this was the venue for our celebration of love. We reached out within weeks of our date, and we were welcomed with such thoughtfulness, professionalism, and support. James was a lifesaver in so many ways. We had a few unexpected bumps on the day of, and thanks to James, everything was perfect in the end.
The beautiful architecture of the church is breathtaking. The church was perfect for our intimate service.
From the first email communication to the end of the service, Elfa and James were there for us. They walked the entire planning process with us, and provided resources, information, words of encouragement, and even assisted with last minute wardrobe complications.
We are hoping to be able to use the venue again for our first wedding anniversary photo shoot!
We are forever grateful for Elfa, James, and The Church of The Holy City. -

I had an intimate ceremony in April 2019. I was experiencing so much anxiety around picking a wedding venue until I met the staff at The Church of The Holy City. Super professional and organized. It was a wonderful experience. -

We had our wedding ceremony at the Church of the Holy City on 03/16/2019. And we are so lucky to have Elfa and James help us preparing for our big day. Elfa was very responsive and James was very detailed the day-of. My husband and I are both from China, actually we don’t know how to prepare for a Church wedding. And Elfa and James help us in almost every detail, we appreciate it so much. And for the Church itself, it is absolutely a wonderful place for wedding. All our guests and photographers commented on how gorgeous it is. Definitely recommended to all couples.
I want to add that the bridal could change her gown in a separate room on the second floor. It is convient.Church of the Holy City's reply:

The church is beautiful and elegant; it was the perfect for our wedding day. I would recommend this venue! -
User2493019 Sent on 01/04/2016Having our wedding ceremony at the Church of the Holy City was a wonderful experience! Elfa and James are extremely nice, helpful, and responsive. The only downside is the church does not have air conditioning so it was a little warm for our September wedding. But there were lots of fans to keep our guests cool. Besides this, the church is absolutely beautiful and has lots of rooms for the wedding party to use if needed. -

Karina Sent on 01/08/2013Church of the Holy City was the perfect ceremony venue - it's located in the heart of the District and the building itself is historic, giving it a lot of charm and character - it also photographed beautifully! Elfa, the Church Administrator, and James, the onsite wedding planner, were friendly and accommodating from day one. The rental fee is very reasonable, given other prices in the area, and I felt good about supporting an historic venue in my home city. James does the ceremony flowers, most of which were included in the rental fee, but he added flowers to a few extra pews, per my request, for a minimal charge. I brought in my own pillar candles and votives to line the aisle, which James then set up before the ceremony. He also did a great job with our rehearsal dinner flowers the night before the wedding, adding floral centerpieces to each table at the restaurant, again for a very fair price. James gave me great officiant (the Church allows you to invite your own officiant) and photographer recommendations - I was very happy those vendors as well. -
User786432 Sent on 04/30/2012Working with James and Elfa could not have been any smoother. Elfa is the coordinator of the church, and James is the planner, who is also an extremely talented florist. Both James and Elfa made our rehearsal and ceremony process very smooth, personal and memorable. Since they didn't have a congregation or a pastor at the time we married, we were able to use our own pastor (my uncle) to officiate our ceremony. The flexibility of letting us get married in a church where we weren't members was essential, since we traveled from Florida to get married in my hometown area. The church is gorgeous, staff are top notch, and location is perfect. I would recommend to ANY future bride and groom. -

Trying to find a church with a reasonable non-member price isn't easy in DC and this one was certainly the most beautiful! Additionally, I really love the message of the church as an inclusive wedding chapel. The house next door is often decorated which is fun too! -

The Church of the Holy City is an amazing venue! It's extremely beautiful and affordable. The staff was very flexible when we needed to change our date due to family schedules.
I would definitely recommend having a rehearsal the night before. We opted not too, since we only had 20 people attending our ceremony, and the officiant was in the family, which caused the church staff to be a little confused on some details of our wedding the day of.
Overall, our day was perfect and the pictures from this venue turned out great! -

User1037110 Sent on 12/05/2012Elfa was great to work with, but I couldn't talk to the wedding coordinator until he had a deposit. Once my deposit was in, I realized that there was a lot of extra stuff we had to pay for, such as a DJ. The organ is out of tune and there is only 1 outlet for music. There are no speakers in the church. The organist they recommended was awful. The church needs a lot of work to restore it. It wasn't in the best condition. I had to walk into the church from the outside, so if there was bad weather, I would have gotten wet and there is no getting around that. That was my biggest stress. There is a small foyers for the bride to wait in, but it is exposed to the audience. you would have to pay for a large screen for coverage, or provide your own. There is street parking, but it's very difficult to find space. The church is beautiful just be prepared to pay a lot of money. I wasn't pleased to hear that there were other rooms in the church where activities could have gone on during my ceremony. I could have not be given a waiting room. I would have had to pay extra to reserve a waiting room. Good thing there wasn't an event going on the weekend of my wedding. Most of my stress regarding my wedding came from the challenges of this venue.
