Amazing DJ who brings more than lights and music.
It’s been a year since my wife and I were married. Why did we wait so long to write our review of DJ Big Andy? Mainly, laziness. After the wedding we were both fairly burnt out from anything wedding related. In hindsight however that laziness actually gave us a lot of time to think back to our wedding day. What would we have had Andy do differently? What didn’t we like? What would we change? What would we improve? What could he have done better?
Not. One. Damn. Thing! Honestly, this feels so weird to say since it’s, “just a DJ”, right? But, with DJ Big Andy, you are getting so much more than that. When we booked Andy for our wedding, we thought we were just getting music and maybe some lights. Sure, we got those things but so much more was provided.
First, Andy was fantastic to work with and his years of experience shone through. He knows the correct questions to ask and if you don’t have an answer, you can bet he’ll lead you to the correct one for your day. Nothing was forgotten, missed, or overlooked. From the music selection as guests first enter the space all the way to the end of the evening. Every detail was planned out and executed. Andy was also really good at reading us both. We left some musical details up to him and he found the perfect answer. He even talked us out of some choices that, in hindsight, would have been less than ideal. But again, he’s been doing this for so long that it seems like he can really read a couple and know what they are looking for. Even if they don’t know it themselves.
Something that I know surprised us was that we weren’t just getting a guy to hit ‘play’ on a playlist. Andy also bring a lot to an event’s atmosphere. He did a fantastic job emceeing the event, which included the bridal party introductions and other announcements throughout the night. The array of lighting that he can bring to the table is also impressive. It should be noted that he also doesn’t just bring it to the table and drop it there for you to figure out. He looks at your space and elevates it to the next level. I’d say he was as important to the decorations of our space as our venue itself and florist. Our favorite addition was by far what he did with our “cake knife”. We used a replica sword from a video game to cut our cake. While it was on display Andy took it upon himself to add 3 different spot lights. One of which required some rigging from the ceiling of the event space. We didn’t even ask him for that. He took our baseline idea and elevated it to the next level because he saw an opportunity to do so.
Lastly, you’re also getting someone who is well versed in weddings and how they should and need to flow. He was great at walking us through the day and what we should expect. During the event he worked with the venue staff and coordinator to keep us on schedule, making sure everyone was seated for introductions and dinner as well as making sure we remembered to actually cut the cake. All his equipment was in great working order from the lights to the speakers. And that’s one important note actually. No one had issues hearing our ceremony, vows, announcements, or music. We’ve been to weddings where a bad sound system really ruined the wedding. It’s hard to feel the love at a wedding when you can’t understand a word that being said. You won’t be having that happen with Andy!
Even though we waited a year to write this review, our opinion of Andy hasn’t changed. He was a pleasure to work with and we would certainly hire him again. He provided more than just music to our wedding day. He helped to add energy, atmosphere, feeling, and memories. That’s something not every DJ is able to do.
