I will preface this with the fact that I also manage and teach at Epic Yoga DC. :) I chose to get married here because I knew that I could count on myself and Emma (the owner) to make sure the space would be perfect for our big day! Everyone LOVED the exposed brick, cathedral ceilings, and gorgeous fireplace mantles. This space is perfect for an industrial chic look that requires very little decor, which really surprised me and our budget! ;) We went the minimalist route, but because the space is so versatile, you can dress it up to fit any theme. It's also nice to have separate rooms for everything because your vendors really don't have to shuffle around equipment between the ceremony, cocktail hour, and reception. Photos are courtesy of Barbara O. Photographer, whom I HIGHLY recommend and has already been booked for 2 more weddings after I posted her as a preferred vendor for Epic! It's always nice to have someone who is already familiar with the space. :)

We recently had our reception at Epic Yoga and are overall really happy with how it turned out, but there are a few things that people should take into consideration:

Great Price! Not only was it the lowest price for hosting an event of that size in the downtown DC area, they gave us a discount because our reception was starting so late.
Size- Finding a non-hotel venue to hold more than 150 in the downtown/Dupont area was a beast. We were really glad to find something where we wouldn’t have to worry about the # of guests for a standing cocktail reception.
Location- The location was perfect for us but there really isn’t much visible/to look at from the outside, if that is something you care about. Also, if you are an area with a busy nightlife can come with some problems. The night of our wedding there was a massive street brawl about a block away - luckily nearly all our guests were inside already and were at no point aware of it, but something to think about.
Management- The manager was very helpful when we did the tour, but the process could have been smoother in terms of who had received what and what was due when.
Temperature- Our wedding was a nice day of about 73 degrees, but two out of the three rooms, especially the “upstairs room” that evening were HOT. Folks were sweating quite a bit during the cocktail but it did eventually cool off, not sure if they pumped in AC or opened the windows. I wish this was anticipated before it was such a problem.
Feel/Layout- The divided layout was not ideal, but we made it work. The drawbacks were the heat and that our acoustic singer could only be heard in the room she was in- we perhaps could have prevented the latter with the DJ or our coordinator, though.
The exposed brick and industrial ceiling and skylights were nice and didn’t require a lot of decoration, and there weren’t a lot of restrictions on décor in terms of candles or hanging lighting etc. Looked great!
    Overall happy with our choice!

Epic is a truly "raw space" with which you can do as much (or as little) as you want. The exposed brick and wood floors make for a gorgeous background. My only qualm is that my communications with the events manager (primarily through email) felt a little too casual/less-than-professional, though when I met her in person she was friendly and able to answer all of my questions. Working with To Your Taste Catering (Epic's preferred partner) went a long way toward easing my mind.
Epic doesn't have a large ballroom, instead offering several studio rooms in which you can set up different parts of your wedding (reception room, dance room, food & drink area, etc). While this set-up may not be ideal for seated dinner receptions, it was just fine for our standing cocktail reception.
As of fall 2014, Epic is also considerably less expensive than more conventional spaces in the area, and is a good option to consider if you're trying to stay well under the absurd average amounts of money people seem to spend on weddings in the DC region.

I echo what has been said in the past reviews.

Pros: Great, great location aesthetically if you're willing to work with a more broken-up space than a traditional wedding venue. The industrial look was exactly what we were looking for with the exposed brick, fireplaces, string lights, hardwood floor - very little decoration is needed. It really is a gorgeous space. The price is also great - far lower than elsewhere in DC which is great.

Cons: Keep in mind that you're booking a wedding in a business location. It is a yoga studio first and wedding venue second, and this was made very apparent to us through several mishaps leading up to the wedding. Also, it's situated on top of a sometimes-noisy bar - so you may need to ask them to tone it down so you can exchange some vows (they were very nice and did help us out!) On top of that, it seems like the event coordinator and owner are not on the same page. Multiple times we tried to conduct walk-throughs with our other vendors or family members from out of town, only to learn upon arrival that the time we'd set aside with the event coordinator wouldn't work because there was a class going on. Based on the staff's reaction, this didn't seem like the first time a miscommunication like this had happened. On top of that, we were told upon submitting our contract that we'd booked the space for the entire day, but once we sent our itinerary to the venue later on the owner seemed put out that she would need to cancel her morning yoga class. Ultimately, we worked it out but with all of the general stress surrounding planning a wedding, learning a month out that your timeline may no longer work is a bit unnerving.

Overall: We loved the space for our wedding day and on the day of there weren't any issues, and the event coordinator was actually quite helpful. But you must be willing to be flexible and deal with a small amount of frustration.

Awesome space- terrible to work with. Hosting weddings is an afterthought to this business.

The space at Epic Yoga is awesome. It's a cool space that worked wonderfully for our reception. They are flexible in that you can do almost anything you want in terms of vendors, layout, decor etc.
The process of communicating and coordinating with Epic Yoga was a nightmare. They were unprofessional, at times totally non-responsive, and terrible at communicating. Multiple times we were given misinformation that would have drastically changed our plans and gave me a heart attack each time. Part of the space is rented to another business- which changed over during our planning process. We kept being given different info about whether we could use the space, what it would look like, etc and there was clearly a lack of communication between Epic Yoga and it's tenants. It definitely seems like being a wedding venue is an after thought to this place and they have zero respect for the amount of time, planning and stress that goes into wedding planning and are unable to offer clarity, professionalism or good communication. It's a cheap and awesome space for a venue- but it might be a nightmare to work with them and will result in lots of stress.
