I surprised my wife with a wedding at First Parish Church in Waltham

I chose First Parish Church in Waltham as our wedding venue, and even though the sanctuary is magnificent, we wanted a smaller informal wedding and chose to get married in their function hall called Whitcomb Hall. My wife is a perfectionist and asked me if I could surprise her with a wedding so she wouldn't obsess about the details leading up to the wedding and during the wedding lol. So I did. The people at First Parish were really wonderful to work with. We chose to get married by Reverend Becky Sheble-Hall, the minister at First Parish and she an I had a great time planning a surprise wedding for my wife. Whitcomb Hall had all the room we needed to set up an area for our wedding ceremony and a separate area for the pre-wedding hors d'oeuvres, a bar and a sit-down buffet dinner with room left for dancing. Because the venue rental fee didn't break the bank, we were able to hire top-notch vendors for the wedding design (decorate the venue and set up the table design, buffet, bar etc.), a lighting designer, plus a caterer for the food buffet and appetizers, a local liquor store for the drinks, a local florist and a specialty baker for the cake. Our wedding designer transformed the space for us into a party atmosphere with lighting and table settings, etc. Our caterer used the commercial kitchen attached to Whitcomb Hall to cook/reheat the meals we had planned. We saved a bunch by tapping into the professional music sound system and I played my playlists via bluetooth from my phone. The whole experience went off without a hitch and we're so glad we chose this venue!

    A lovely, inviting space

I was married at First Parish in 2010 and was so pleased with how the ceremony went. My husband and I have larger families, and the sanctuary had plenty of seating for all of our relatives and friends. Rev. Marc married us, and the ceremony was just what we wanted: personal, joyful, and brief.

The wedding party had plenty of space to get ready--we used the chapel as a dressing area, but I don't know that's still the room offered to the couple. We also used the front steps for photos of the wedding party and the family. We didn't use Whitcomb Hall or the Chapel for any other portion of the wedding.

I loved the sanctuary. The high chandeliers, the rosy glow of light filtering through the colored glass windows, and the pipe organ's music all added to the day. With the sound system, no one strained to hear the ceremony, either.

The description for the church doesn't mention the convenient off-street parking, with street parking and city lots nearby. The convenient parking was helpful! Overall, this warm and welcoming church is a wonderful place to be married.

Classic New England church, well maintained, friendly people

We were married here on a beautiful April afternoon with sunshine streaming through the tinted windows.  The entrance is inviting - it's a well-maintained building with lovely plantings around the outside.  The sanctuary is classic New England, simple, with modern conveniences like a good sound system including headsets for any hard of hearing guests.  The balcony at the back was a great vantage point for our family videographer. We had our rehearsal dinner right in the social hall, which gave us plenty of time to relax and visit with family and our closest friends.  Everyone was cooperative and helpful.  The whole experience was everything we had hoped for.
