International Banquet & Conference Center Reviews

I cannot WAIT to have my wedding at the International Banquet Center in the Atheneum hotel and Suites! We have booked it for our wedding next year and they have been nothing but accommodating and responsive. Sophie has surely taken care of us already! She has gone out of her way to meet with us 3 times before we booked, and even made sure we could see it when it was set up for a wedding! She was helping put everything together for the bride that evening and still made me feel like we had her full attention for the short time we were there. I can't wait for this beautiful space accompanied by such a great, attentive staff.

Sophie and her staff are fantastic! Super organized and very professional! Throughout the whole planning process they made us feel like royalty. This led into our wedding night with the staff continuing to make sure we were happy and our drinks were filled. Everyone was very helpful when bringing in items for the wedding as packing up everything at the end of the night! Thank you for making our wedding perfect!

My husband and I were blown away by how beautiful this venue was! The two story room was perfect for our ~230 guests. It included a cocktail hour on the balcony and the guests watched our first dance from upstairs which made for some awesome pictures!

There were so many amazing aspects of this venue that it's hard to even list them all! The city views from the venue are incredible, the space is very flexible and open, the food is delicious, the dessert bar was AMAZING (our guests loved it), the rooftop for evening photos was fun and unique and the staff was incredibly responsive and helpful.

As a bride, you always want to be able to get in contact with your vendors. Sophie was always very responsive - even if it was a late night reply to my email to say she'd get back with me in the morning. Any changes I wanted for the evening she was very accommodating. The venue also provides you a wonderful setting to taste test the food with your fiance and up to 4 additional guests (our parents loved it).

During the actual wedding, the staff continued the great customer service! Derrick was there with us the entire night and was absolutely amazing!! He made sure we had everything we needed and helped us take advantage of all the great perks of the venue like the rooftop photos. Emanuel served the bridal party at the captain's table and he did a fantastic job! He was super attentive, quick to get us anything we needed and had such a positive attitude!

Another huge bonus is that the venue is attached to the Atheneum Hotel - which provided free valet for our guests and a discounted hotel rate. I was able to check into the hotel a few days before the wedding and it eliminated a lot of stress.

Overall, we are so glad we made the choice to have our reception at the IBC. It was on the expensive side compared to a few other venues (but not the most expensive option in Detroit) but it was 110% worth every penny! Thank you to Sophie, Derrick and their team!

Book this venue now! This is the absolute best wedding venue in the city of Detroit! The views of the city, the food, the cake, and the service are the best of the best! No other venue can offer what the IBCC can offer.

Sophie was extremely professional, knowledgeable and worked to make our special day better than we could have imagined.

Even better than the delicious appetizers, entrees, cake and amazing dessert table, the service from the staff and bar tenders was incredible! Derrick, the food and beverage manager, was there for us throughout the night and made sure our guests and us were well taken care of.

Our guests were blown away by the venue and made for a memorable night for the bride and groom and all our guests. Everyone will be impressed, I promise.

We had our daughter's wedding reception at the International Grand Ballroom and it was wonderful from start to finish. The room was beautiful, Sophie was great to work with and everyone working there from top to bottom was extremely helpful and extremely friendly. People were coming up to us all night and telling us how amazing the wedding was. I am so glad we chose that venue. It was absolutely a beautiful night. I would highly recommended this venue to anyone!

I had my reception here and everything is absolutely breathtaking. The staff is extremely professional and does not miss a beat. Sophie is amazing to work with... she goes the extra mile and always gets back to you with any questions you have as soon as possible. The staff set up all my decorations flawlessly and added little touches to make it appear even better. The staff treats all of your guests like royalty. They will accommodate any needs you have... we even had staff members looking out for my groom and I throughout the night to make sure our glasses were never empty ;) Everything was PERFECT! I would highly recommend this venue to every bride out there. They make wedding planning easy. Every guest was extremely impressed with the food, service and venue... the compliments keep pouring in about how this is the best wedding they've ever been to. HIGHLY, HIGHLY Recommend!

As a bride planning a Detroit, Michigan wedding from Charlotte, NC, the staff at the International was amazing. Each time I sent an email, the response time was within minutes, LOL! I knew I wanted a brunch reception, and when we had our tasting, I knew our guests would LOVE our menu. Our wedding was almost two months ago, and I am STILL getting calls/texts about how good our food was, and how lovely our reception was. When we chose the International Banquet & Conference Center for our reception venue, we hands down made the BEST choice :-)

We had our reception here with more than 300 people. It was perfect from start to finish. Sophie was a dream to work with. I am so happy with everything!!

This venue was outstanding and I keep receiving compliments from our guests even two months after our wedding!! Sophie was very helpful and very responsive. If you had a question she would e-mail you back right away! The best part about this venue is the balcony! My guests were able to see the bridal party introduction as well as the cake cutting because they were able to look down from the balcony. The dance floor is very large and everyone (old and young) danced the night away! My guests also said the bartenders were very generous with the drinks and they food was great! They set up a whole dessert table with lots of little treats!! Overall, I'm very happy we chose IBCC!

I loved having my reception here! We had sooo many guests tell us that it was the best wedding reception they'd been to. The staff at both the hotel and banquet center were Awesome, and very accomodating! We also had several guests who stayed at the hotel mention how they were impressed with the service. Sophie is great and very flexible, however, make sure you are told how much tax and gratuity will be so you can calculate that in....we were told the week before the wedding that we owed $7000 more than we planned because of tax and gratuity. I was under the impression (because I asked when we booked) that tax and gratuity were included. My suggestion, get everything in writing! This was a great place to have a reception, very elegant!

I had an event last week at the International Banquette Center at 400 Monroe. I arrived at the hotel door, but was not sure where to go. A black man named Darnel came to me and asked if he could help me? I told him I was there for a meeting at the banquette center. He showed me the way and followed me to the elevator. He said he wanted to make sure I find it. He got on the elevator also. In the elevator he kept looking at my breas and then he asked me if I was married. He had a piece of paper in his hand that I suspect was his phone number. As soon at the elevator stopped, I got out of it and went around on that floor to stay away from this man. Once he left, I got in the elevator and went down to lobby, where I ran into a black man with glasses and a housekeeping type of cart. I briefly told him what happened and asked him who I can talk to. The man with glasses whose name I never looked to find out told me not to waste my time. No one would care. He told me Darnel has reputation for sexaul harassment, but he still works at the hotel. I left and never went to my meeting, but called my husband and explained the situation to him. He came home also to be with me.
We will be taking legal action for Darnel's behavior and if he has reputation for sexual harassment and still is working at the hotel, we will involve more people in our legal action.
