Great food and service for outside catering

We used Kim Son for catering for an outside venue for individually plated meals. They were responsive and accommodating to our needs. We received overwhelmingly good reviews from our guests regarding service and food.

Nice to work with. Delicious and professional!

Kim Son provided an exceptional service and quality for my wedding. My compliments to the one chef that cooked for 140-150 guests on the hottest day in Houston. Everyone loved the food and could not stop raving about it and the service they received. Thank you Kim Son for your wonderful service!!

The go-to place for large Vietnamese Weddings in Houston. The venue is large, accommodated 500+ guests comfortably, and the menu was good. A pretty big food selection for many tastes and budgets. Very respectful to the requests of parents and family. Ben and Dylan (the General Managers/Coordinators) were always friendly and responsive to questions and concerns. They allowed us to come early and stay late when we needed to decorate.

We were able to book our reception at Kim Son 4 months before the wedding. We were so lucky! Everything was great. The staff was very accommodating and attentive. The food was hot and tasty. We were pleased.

A1 option for asian family style cuisine.

There is a reason Kim Son has a monopoly on asian/Vietnamese weddings around town. And 9/10 of these weddings happen in the venue itself.

Kim Son has multiple locations, namely their new Bellaire location and their OG destination downtown - Jefferson. We originally booked the Jefferson location prior to the pandemic. It is one single large ballroom that can accommodate at least 500 guests. You need to spend a minimum amount to book the ballroom itself, so in reality you do not technically pay for the building. This is the magic in the madness. No wonder they take all the business. You do have to spend a pretty penny to decorate at Kim Son as it usually requires draping and is a large space. Admittedly, the aesthetics of the outside building also leaves much to be desired as it is old and is even missing letters to the name (like come on Kim Son, fix that bad boy). I still elected to chose this site over the newer shinier location in Bellaire since it allows only one wedding party at a time. The Bellaire capacity is variable and can even have up to two medium sized parties or one gigantic wedding on a single date. Since we are definitely moderately sized, I did not want to share the space with another wedding party. Talk about bathroom nightmare and you also become victim to wedding crashers from the party over. No thanks.

After the pandemic outbreak, we decided to postpone our wedding for guest safety. Kim Son worked with us throughout this process and was very flexible. They moved our deposit to the new date and even accommodated our switch to outside catering at the venue where we held our ceremony. We wanted to make it as easy for guests as possible so they would not have to commute to another venue. They basically built a kitchen outside the venue and cooked their food on site. Quality was definitely not compromised. They provide for rent lazy Susans and cutlery. Staff and managers are also for hire. The efficiency of the service was beyond commendable. The only hiccup was the bar service we also booked through them which was super stressful, but ended up working out in the end. I would recommend finding a different vendor for the bartender and bar service if you require one at your wedding.

We received countless compliments on the taste and quality of the food. 10/10 would recommend Kim Son for your wedding cuisine.

The catering supervisor was awesome to work with. She helped us put together our menu, kept us within our budget and provided us with décor advice and vendor referrals. On the day of the event, we were provided with TWO catering managers who help us make sure the entire event went smooth. Everyone was accommodating and the venue was beautiful!

As with all Asian weddings, I was FORCED to have my wedding here by my parents. But it all turned out better than I expected. It was a NICE BIG BALLROOM with the deep maroon/red that I wanted as my color theme so I didn't have to spend money fixing it. THe Dance floor was HUGE. The room divided itself in halves so my drunken college friends were on one side and my respected family friends of my parents were on the other. Food was better than expected and well worth the value as we got a lot. We paid by the table but if we were short some, we got a refund but if we had to add one or two tables, usually it wasn't a problem and didn't have to pay more. The manager of the place was VERY flexible. Made sure I got every last detail the way I wanted and also made his own suggestions which turned out great. There was valet parking but also garage parking that was secured (didn't have to pay extra) so vehicles were safe. We went to the MILAM one... not downtown main. Pretty chandaliers hung creating a romantic glow that was just right. Speaker system was perfect. Food service is better than at the restaurant hours. He even let me pay after we opened all our monetary gifts at the end of the day instead of before. We had 350 guests. Paid about $5000 and was gifted $15,000. If we had gone to an American banquet hall, I doubt we would have come out with that much as Asians always love their own asian food and Kim Son is a comfort place for all Asians. They also provided linens, centerpieces, and decor.

I just read another review that said she had 350 guest and paid $5000. That's a good deal considering I had 150 guests and paid $10,000. Maybe it was the food we served.. I don't know. Anyway, I had the reception at the Jefferson location upstairs in the ballroom so it wouldn't look like a restaurant. Beautiful place and didn't need lots of decorating. Food was suprisingly good. I had a cake problem too. They served the wedding cake but they took the groom's cake to the back and never came back out with it! We asked them to cut it, but that never happened. We ended up packing it and giving it to whoever stayed to help cleanup. They ask you to finish up by 12am and pay extra if you stay longer. Be careful of pricing per table. When my husband and I went for quotes, they asked for $600 a table for a mediocre menu. When we went with our parents the 2nd time, they asked for $490 a table for a better menu (more seafood and better dishes). So you should bargain when you get there! We also paid $300 to rent audio equipment to attach iPods to it. So.. Have someone in charge to get the cakes cut, to get a good price, to dim the lights for your first dance, etc etc. Good luck and have a happy wedding!!

Food was not as good when served buffet style as when served regularly for dinner. Some glasses were dirty (food stains at the bottom) and left stains on the white linens before food was even served. Bathrooms smell funky. Staff is helpful and you can get a great deal for a lot of people!

I heard so many great things about Kim Son for weddings but was quite disappointed after I had my wedding there. The staff did not do a few things I had asked, such as SERVE THE CAKE! After I had cut it, it was brought to the back to be cut up, but was not brought out until more than half the guests left. I should have been paying attention, but I was busy When I asked a waiter, he just said they forgot. Another thing I did not like was that guests started ordering food that was not on the 10 course set menu that was being served(which is rude on their part) but the waiters went ahead brought it out to them and billed me for it without even mentioning it to me. So basically, the food was decent, the ballroom was great, the price was good, but I just didn't like the service.

I had my wedding at the Kim Son on Jefferson.
The reason I chose this place was because my parents really wanted to have a wedding @ Kim Son. The good thing about having a typical vietnamese wedding at Kim Son (is that it's cheaper than a typical American wedding,) but there's certain things that make it "eh" in my opinion. The carpet is old and the color is going off, and they leave the unused tables slanting against the walls (so one area of the reception looks like a storage.) Maybe, I'm just a picky person. Anyways, I ended up renting sound equipment from elsewhere (Houston Sound Rentals) instead of paying extra for their rental equipment. This is because earlier in the year, I went to my friend's wedding @ Kim Son and my friend had rented the sound equipment from them and it turned out to be a disaster. The equipment was just HORRIBLE (lots of static, and the speakers were screeching and blasting in our ears.)

Some of my guest didn't get all the food from my menu. When they asked for it, Kim Son said they were out and sent them out a replacement meal. They should have been prepared for the amount of people we reserved.

Overall, my experience was just ok. I booked Kim Son for the venue and the food.

My biggest issue with them is their management is not coordinated at all. The manager that I spoke with throughout the entire process of booking the venue and selecting my options for the reception for months before my wedding was not actually there on my wedding day. So I had to speak with completely different people during my wedding day reception set up and the new people did not have all the details that I have agreed upon with the booking manager.

Since I was sharing the upstairs ballroom with another reception, the booking manager told me that we could either both use the lobby or neither reception will use the lobby at all. We agreed that no one will use the lobby, but on the actual day, the other bride was allowed to use the ENTIRE lobby for their photo area. I had to put my photo area inside my side of the ballroom. This was not fair AT ALL. I felt cheated.

Kim Son only has 2 easels they can let you use to put your main wedding photo on. (This is placed by the door so your guest knows this is your reception by your photo.) I reserved the taller easel with the booking manager. However, when I arrived, the other reception was using the taller easel even though it was already reserved by me. I had to tell management to switch it.

The changing room was also not ready at the time they said it would be. There was a lot of junk in there. I needed to tell them that I needed the room before they started clearing it out. It was like they didn't think I needed it even though I told the booking manager months ago that I did. Poor lighting inside and no outlets in case you need to re-curl your hair.

But I will say that they did do what I asked them for during the set up for the reception. The food was served on time. They were also willing to work with us on the timing when serving the food. As far as caking cutting and serving, only some of my guest received cake.

Good food. However, their staff messed up my cake distribution. They served half of the ballroom twice while the other half did not get any cake. The menu was not printed this guests had no idea what to expect.

Beware, the price listed for the food menu is only good for the menu. Unlike lots of other American venues, this place does not include anything else. I find this place to be a bit pricey. Do not expect much when it comes to professionalism during your consultation. Vendor had me sit in the middle of the eating area (versus office). Vendor actually left my table to talk to another client in the middle of my consultation. I find this quite rude and unprofessional. Since vendor does profide decoration services for the ballroom, they have imposed several strict rules for hiring outside vendors to come in and decorate for you. Vendor's decor services are quite pricey, but their fees and deposits for outside vendor makes it almost impossible for you to try and outsource it.

I did not give Kim Son a high score because they were not very responsive to my wedding. On the day of the wedding, there was a playoff game going on. When I went to the back, the staff were watching football instead of prepping up to cater my wedding. The food came out an hour late. The manager didn't seem to care. Overall, it was a bad experience and I wished I could have booked a different venue. The bad service could be due to the fact that they booked 3 weddings that same night as well. I would suggest booking a venue that would only attend 1 wedding per night.

In an effort to reduce our costs, we had initially booked a private room next to the buffet for our rehearsal dinner. We made several trips to see BINH to communicate the need for a private space, show the exact set up needed for the Chinese Tea Ceremony, and confirmed that we could bring in wine without any charges. He was agreeable to all of these before our rehearsal dinner. Evening of, with a surprise, we were led into a non-private room within the buffet area, they did not have it set up as we needed it to be for the tea ceremony, AND they tried to charge us a ridiculous corking AND additional $10 per wine bottle fee that night. The manager argued and gave us a lot of attitude during this time, and we had to have several argumentative (on their end) conversations with them and Binh on the phone in order for them to adhere to our original agreement. Bottom line is that management DOES NOT CARE ABOUT CUSTOMER SERVICE AT ALL and they only care about HOW MUCH MONEY THEY CAN SQUEEZE OUT of their customers...EVEN THROUGH DECEIT! Terrible experience that should have been celebratory. It's so not worth any money saved by going with them. I would never host anything small or big at Kim Son.
