King & Bear/Slammer & Squire Reviews

We had our wedding ceremony and reception at King & Bear and the entire event was seamless!

Here are some highlights of why we selected this venue and why I 100% recommended it:

-Staci Watkins, the amazing onsite event coordinator who took charge of making my vision come to life. She was simply amazing!

-Onsite parking!

-Affordable and beautiful; causally elegant. So many of our guests complimented the venue choice. Food, drinks and dancing were inside, and outside we used the firepits — many of our guests took in the evening from that relaxing vantage point.

-Excellent food! We chose to do only heavy hors d’ oeuvres and the Chef worked with us to accommodate exactly what we wanted.

-Excellent, professional staff! We had a handful of people working our event who were always there, yet always discreet. Attentive, friendly, gracious — truly great!

-A private locker room area to get ready in — and we were checked in by the staff to ensure all was well.

-Location! We had many out of state guests and WGV is smack dab in the middle of lots of options so our guests could make a vacation out of their trip. Historic St Augustine? Nearby! Beaches? Check! Jacksonville experiences? Not too far away! And there are lots of AirBnB, VRBO and hotels nearby.

I cannot recommend King&Bear and its amazing staff highly enough. If you’re looking for a fair, affordable price without sacrificing a stunning wedding—this is your spot!

We had our wedding at Slammer & Squire and it was great. Staci was awesome the entire time we were planning and made things less stressful. She was flexible and we felt she was the perfect match for us. The staff at the wedding were great and we received a lot of compliments overall about the venue.

Also, the package we chose for our wedding we felt was a great deal for what you are getting. Between the location, food, drinks, and most of all the flexibility we felt we could not have chosen a better place to get married.

Event team was outstanding and we would definitely use them again.

We had my son's rehearsal dinner at the Squire and Slammer Club. Staci was great and always available to help with the planning, menu selection, etc. The food at the dinner was fabulous and the staff was great. My only complaint would be the lack of table top decor for our event. There were suppose to be candle holders and they had a broken box so we couldn't use any of them since there weren't enough. They should have plenty of table top decorations, including backups, if they are going to hold events such as this! Otherwise, I was extremely happy with the evening!

Our experience with the staff at the King & the Bear was absolutely fantastic in every way. We continue to get compliments from our guests about the reception, even a week after the event. Every staff member was pleasant, personable, and seemed to anticipate our every need. We simply cannot thank them enough for making our daughter's wedding reception so memorable and special, but hopefully our words here will allow for someone else to trust their event to this incredible team. Mack was the event planner for our wedding on 2/28/2015. He was very flexible, approachable, and met with us as many times as we wanted to. He was there the day-of and coordinated everything better than we expected. We had an open bar and our guests were very pleased with the bartender and everyone loved the food. We had our ceremony at the King and Bear Clubhouse and our reception at the Slammer and Squire Clubhouse. Both clubhouses are beautiful and the staff is friendly and on point with the services they provided. We heard nothing but excellent comments from our guests about the food and the bar. It is not the cheapest venue but we were fortunate enough to be able to afford it and we were extremly happy with everything.

Our wedding at the Slammer & Squire was absolutely fantastic! Aaron was so helpful during the entire planning period. He met with us on several occasions and made sure our vision for our wedding came to life. He is personable, kind, and extremely knowledgeable and professional. The food was delicious and we are still receiving compliments on it. The staff at Slammer & Squire made sure our wedding was perfect! Thank you for helping make our special day even more amazing than what we could have asked for!

My wedding at Slammer & Squire was amazing!! I used the grass in between the bridge and the Hall of Fame Tower for the actual wedding service and had the entire reception inside the Slammer. Kirsten was so helpful during the entire planning period. She was very prompt in returning my many emails and met with me on several occasions. She took more than enough time to help me decide how I wanted things and gave so many helpful suggestions..from napkin colors to the actual ceremony. She is so sweet and wonderful to be around. The Beverage Manager was also incredible to work with. I stopped by on several different occasions to show my parents and bridesmaids the location, and every time, Aaron greeted us with a smile and helped show my vision to my friends/family. The day of the event, no one let me down. Aaron was wonderful throughout the night and all the staff was so attentive and friendly. All the food was delicious, and they were able to accommodate a special request late night snack for my Scottish husband! My guests all had a wonderful time and it is a beautiful venue. All the people at Slammer & Squire went above and beyond my expectations and truly made my wedding day spectacular!

Love Kirsten! She is wonderful to work with! We had nothing, but positive feedback on the wedding. It was beautiful and magical! The staff was so professional and I believe her name was Wendy..... whoever the assistant was ( I feel horrible because I can't remember her name) she was amazing! I told her to use her best judgement with all of the decorations we brought in and she did an amazing job!

I truly enjoyed having my wedding at the Slammer and the Squire. Everyone was so helpful and made my special day even better. The food and service was wonderful.

In the case that the bride and groom would like to extend their celebration (night of) for whatever reason an option to do so should be available, other than that it's a great venue!

This location is breath taking! It can't get any better than this. The food was amazing and the guests enjoyed every moment. There was one slight mix up with our beverage package option that became somewhat embarrassing to us but after we brought it to the attention of the slammer it was fixed immediately. They have a location inside incase it rains on your wedding day which we had to use unfortunately. The outside location is just perfection, the down pour ruined that haha. If you have the opportunity for an outside wedding at the reception location this is your spot. Photos can easily be taken outside with beautiful scenery. All in all we were extremely pleased with WGV slammer and squire! Good luck on your wedding plans!
