Excellent!
We loved this venue. I was worried it was to small but it was actually perfect! Only complaint was that there was plumbing issues in the small bathroom. Other than that it was flawless. We loved this venue. I was worried it was to small but it was actually perfect! Only complaint was that there was plumbing issues in the small bathroom. Best value
This was very affordable compared to a lot of other options and right on the ocean! You have to bring your own vendors but they’re flexible and give an off-season discount in winter. This was very affordable compared to a lot of other options and right on the ocean! Tom is a joy to work with! He responds very quickly to any questions and is so willing to make sure you have everything you need. I was planning my wedding for CA from TN and he made the process so easy without me even having to be there. The club is a beautiful venue overlooking the cliffs of La Jolla, my pictures turned out AMAZING and my guests could not stop talking about the Southern California feel of the venue. 5 out of 5!Tom is a joy to work with! You can't beat this location! We got so many comments from our guests at how beautiful the venue was. I planned the wedding in 4 months and needed to make things as stress-free as possible so we had originally looked at hotels that provided everything (equipment, bar, food, etc.). When we looked at the Bridge Club, I originally thought that shopping out and coordinating all the vendors would be a drawback, but we hired The French Gourmet (who is very familiar with the location) which did everything for us. We were married outside and held the reception inside. The inside is very plain, but with windows lining the building overlooking the cove, the setting is absolutey stunning. Our guests got to watch the sunset over the water from their seats. The venue does have some specific rules to follow (e.g. finish by 10pm, no hard liquor, etc.), but nothing that really detracted from the event. I would highly recommend the Bridge Club. You can't beat this location! We got so many comments from our guests at how beautiful the venue was. We had our wedding at La Jolla cove bridge club, the view was amazing! Blue sky, blue ocean, breeze, nice sunshine! We loved the environment so much and set our ceremony and reception both outdoor, the indoor room provided another option for our guests who do not want to get much sunshine, we used the ball room for makeup preparation and clothes change. Every guest told us the venue was so beautiful and romantic, think about the pic that you got your first kiss as husband and wife with the background of sky and ocean!
However, plan a wedding here is not easy, the venue basically only provided the space, even though you are free to use their small card tables and chairs. We need to rent everything, the arch, the tables, the chairs, the cater and have to decor the venue all by ourselves, everything! It depends how you think about the plan, of course it is a process to enjoy, but sometimes it made the bride (me) feel stressed as I have to consider every tiny detail.
Except that, the parking issue is a nightmare, the street park is only 3 hrs even on Saturday, and it is really hard to find the parking space on the street. There are some event parking nearby. I put the map on my wedding website and also printed out to remind our guests at registration.
If you rent the venue the whole day, you are free to use it until 10 p.m., but you cannot leave your stuff there over night (the day before the wedding) even you have the key.
Music is allowed during ceremony, but also acceptable during the reception. However, you must keep in mind to make the music very soft all the time. Better to have the amplifier facing to the ocean.
The manager Tom Sauer was very nice, quickly response to my every email and mail back our deposit in one week after the wedding.

This is a beautiful site. Though only available on Saturdays, and not available for rehearsals, is worth it. Has a lot of rules, but still gives you a lot of flexibility. My husband and I had our wedding at the La Jolla Cove Bridge Club in September and we are very happy with our decision to have it at that location. You can't beat the beautiful view of the Pacific and location right in La Jolla. We had our tables outside and rented a dance floor for the main room so our guests wouldn't be so cramped. The most difficult thing about having our wedding there, is that you have to bring in everything-tables, chairs (you can use their card tables if you want), linens...everything and you have to have it in and out on the same day. It ended up working out just fine but it did cause me a bit of stress before the wedding. Overall, it is a great location at a price that was hard to beat. It's such a beautiful venue and our wedding was really spectacular, but it is a shame that the folks that run it make it so difficult.
Our 5 issues: 1) They didn't know the property line and we weren't sure who to rent the adjacent lawn area for our ceremony site from. When asked, we were told to go through 'the City'. 2)Power - they didn't know anything about power distribution. Also told to go through the City. 3) Vendor access - We were told our vendors could drive up to the club to deliver & the week before our wedding they emailed us a note saying now they couldn't which incurred both stress and additional costs for 'long carry'. 4) Speakers - although the music from the hotel roof top across the street was blaring, we were told we couldn't have speakers outside for dinner music. We did it anyway and it was fine but added a little stress to the planner. 5) Garbage - we were billed $200 by the Club b/c 'the city' billed them for the garbage in the public bins. (never sent us a receipt or informed us until I asked them where our refundable deposit was). This is still being worked out as the contract between us and the Club was upheld in terms of cleaning.
I loved our beautiful ocean backdrop but the stress of dealing with them really took away some of the fun. ALL of my vendors dreaded it and most charged extra b/c of challenges with delivery and lack of parking. My advice: as long as you're prepared for it and have at least 10 people to help clean up you should be fine.
The plus side is that they open the doors at 8am so you can bring in everything early. Also, the new contact Tom Sauer is very responsive. Most of the time I heard back within a few minutes and always the same day. The thing about this venue is that it's amazingly beautiful. Everyone who attended our wedding took note of the gorgeous location. The bridge club itself is not especially expensive to rent ($2200 total), but the people who organize and run this building are VERY difficult to deal with. They have prohibitive rules. They take your deposit check ($1200) and cash it 2 months before the wedding and mail you back a check (minus repairs, and there will be some) 1 month after the wedding. They are difficult to get a hold of and they're just overall cranky. It's a bridge club where older people play bridge on Sundays. I think one of the bridge players is in charge of renting it out for weddings and his name is Howard Bresner and he was a nightmare for me. All my vendors had to be approved but he would lose the signed forms and they would have to resubmit. He only communicates over email and he doesn't always get back to you within the week. We lost our deposit based on the kitchen being in "deplorable condition" and some items being left in the building overnight. Those two details were the fault of my planner, but really, does it cost $1200 to clean a kitchen? Nothing was broken or damaged. Ridiculous. All that said, I would do it again, because the location can't be beat and we really, really love the cove. We'll fondly remember our wedding there forever. The thing about this venue is that it's amazingly beautiful. Everyone who attended our wedding took note of the gorgeous location.
