We LOVE Lessings! From the beginning, Steve the head of catering was so incredibly helpful. We must have emailed him 1 million times with questions and he always responded right away and was super nice. He and Paul visited our site multiple times to make sure everything would go smoothly. They promised us that everyone would be happy and would be served while on the dance floor, there wouldn't be bar and food lines and they definitely delivered. Everyone loved our wedding and loved the food and service and Lessing's made that possible. Even last minute, week of issues I had such as needing umbrellas and pop up tents and table card holders - Steve ordered them and had them ready to go for Saturday. The staff all showed up early and everything was setup perfectly by the time our cocktail hour started. Cannot thank Lessings enough. Really professional, helpful, fun to work with. Perfect day! THANK YOU!

    THE BOURNE MANSION

I have been the owner Of Barattini Productions DJ Entertainment & Event Services since 1998. Usually we are the ones to get reviewed, well not this time. I have felt compelled to write a little something about Lessing's Catering. (The Bourne Mansion).

Throughout my years in this industry, I have to say that some places stick out from all the rest and that is The Bourne Mansion In the past few months we have lucked out and had our wedding clients book with The Bourne Mansion. For starters, I finally got to enjoy a wedding as a guest and party of a bridal party on Saturday August 17th for the Hild Wedding. I got to enjoy the behind the scenes things that a normal guest would not. From arriving early for photos to enjoying their luxury bridal suite accommodations. Steve the Maitre'd in charge went above and beyond the call of duty for the bride and groom. On a bride's wedding day, she is the most important person in the world, and Steve assured her that she was. The moment we got on premise he welcomed us with open arms and made sure our bride and groom were nothing shy of being happy.

From the food to the décor and the old rustic mansion feel it was 5 Star. I DJ at places all the time and just the welcome we get from the Bourne every time we play, they treat us like family and not some other vendor.

I can tell you the way Steve treated the entire bridal party and our bride and groom, Lessing's should be proud. And this is not a one time encounter. On May 18th or 2013, we traveled to Greenport (Brecknock Hall) for an off site wedding, and there was Steve and his staff from The Bourne. The same wait staff, bartender's, and crew. True professionals.

So bride's if you are interested in this hall or are on the fence, I hope I can make you make the final decision. As a vendor and now a guest, I was able to experience a great performance by this entire staff!

My husband and I had our ten year anniversary party at Coindre Hall. I loved the place and thought it was amazing! John was a wonderful host. Working in the catering myself, I could not have asked for better. He was attentive and flexible and catered to my wants. I had the entire place to myself and my family for the day. There are many great places for photos. My guests enjoyed the uniqueness of the location. We were able to stay on budget and the food and bar were also amazing. I highly recommend Coindre Hall!

    Lessing's is INCREDIBLE.

We wanted our food to be a reflection of us therefore I wanted to make sure there was food for everyone. The Chinese on my side and the picky eaters on his side. The Asian Station they have is great....for the average couple. But for us we wanted something a little more authentic. I emailed Jen some sample menus w/recipes that she fwd'ed to the head chef. Who agreed to them all with no issues!!!
Everyone who came to our wedding still says to this day how much food was there, how good it all was and how smoothly everything went. How Jason & his team were on top of everything.
There are so many stories that come up of the woodwork now that no one told us about on the day of so we would not worry. But all of those 'problems' were non issues due to the great staff at Lessing's who immediately helped. Everyone from Jason the maitre'd, to Paola the bridal assistant, to the bartender, to the wait staff were extremely professional and went SO above and beyond their call of duty to make sure our day was as perfect as they can make it.
    The site itself was beautiful.
We live 8hrs away so venue searching was a serious PIA.
But the grounds were beautiful, with the river right there, provided a great backdrop for our ceremony.
We requested a uncommon table layout that Lessings took with stride.
And I have to say knowing a lot of people who got married this year and are planning their wedding now. I have to say we got the best bang for our buck with Lessings, food wise, service wise and location wise.

We would 6,000% recommend Lessing's to everyone!!!

    Coindre Hall

We were married a month ago at Coindre Hall in Huntington NY. This venue is now under the sole contract of Lessing's catering. We absolutely loved it! The place is beautiful, and our wedding manager, Maitre D' and Lessing's contact April Trovitch was beyond awesome.

First of all the location was exactly what we wanted. My wife and I really like places with some character, and Coindre Hall has plenty. The exterior architecture is interesting, and just run down enough to lend an authentic atmosphere of old-world charm. The interior is beautiful. When we first booked the hall, our only concern was that the dancing is in a separate room from the dining. This turned out to be a bonus rather than a negative. All the folks who wanted to sit and chat stayed at the dinner tables where it was relatively quiet, while all the dancers went to the room next door. The bars were located in the other rooms, so the party people also had their space.

Second, Lessing's catering. Our catering manager was April Trovitch. She was also our Maitre D' for the evening. April was way, way beyond awesome. First off, my wife and I only had three months to plan our wedding, and April helped by keeping us focused on the important things, and by keeping us calm and reassured. Dealing with April was always easy, efficient, and pleasant. But it was during the wedding that April really shone. Not only did she keep the festivities roughly on schedule (without being annoying), but she was on top of everything. When my 86 year old father decided to walk around without his cane, she had one of her people follow discretely behind him to make sure he remained unscathed. She always knew the whereabouts of the groom and bride (even when we didn't), and she was incredibly responsive to our requests. What I liked best about April is that though she clearly worked her people hard, she also stood up for them. They clearly enjoyed working for her.

On a final note, I want to mention the food. It was outstanding. My wife and I consider ourselves foodies, and feel that spending a lot of money on a dinner is worth it, if the food is good. And in my opinion this was some of the best food I've had. Just a warning, if you go to the Lessing's tasting event and are a bit under-whelmed (as we were), know that what you get at your wedding tastes much better.

    Smithtown Landing Country Club: A++++++
I knew our wedding was going to be on a budget and I was SO nervous about finding A place, much less the RIGHT place that reflected our taste and personality without breaking the bank. And then a girl at work who lives in Kings Park (town next door) recommended I go take a look at SLCC. I was nervous because I didnt want to fall in love with a place that wouldnt work out, but I ended up being right I DID fall in love but it DID work out perfectly. Rich and Donna are 2 of the most thoughtful people I met during my whole wedding planning experience. They worked with me and DH to find the right items for our wedding. We decided to do a Sunday Twilight (1-7pm) Wedding and have the ceremony, CH and reception all on the grounds. Not having the Saturday Night wedding saved money and allowed us to expand our guest list. My favorite thing about them that is very note-worthy is that they only do 1 wedding at a time. This way, my husband was able to tell his groomsmen they can have any snacks/drinks they want/need in the Riverview Room while they were getting ready, and I was able to tell my bridesmaids that while were using their adorable Bridal Suite to get ready, they will be served a delish Continental Breakfast with fruit, coffee, pastry, etc. They enjoyed it all SO much the morning of the wedding and made it that much more fun to get ready in there. (Btw I had 10 people all getting ready and the room was perfect for us.)

The grounds: Amazing golf course with trees on a large property amazing for pictures! The Nissequogue Deck is where we had the ceremony and Im in love with these pictures especially in the fall when the leaves were amazing colors. Rich told me he was going to plant some new flowers on the deck and lived up to his promise! It looked so beautiful out there, I didnt even need to order flowers for the ceremony besides the girls bouquets/bouts for groomsmen. They also just installed a beautiful, elegant gazebo in the center of the 3 little houses that make up the country club. So pretty!

The food: They recently got a new chef and I loved all the food I tried there. My parents were so impressed with how generous they are at the tasting they make you feel so important and we were encouraged to share our ideas! It really got us excited to have all our guests come and eat! The salad tasting was awesome and we decided to take the presentation of the Greek salad (which was in a cucumber wrap) and use it for the Caesar salad. They really allow you to take the reins with these things and its very special and rare. I did not have it in my budget for any extra desserts besides the wedding cake, and Rich was kind enough to help me put together an adorable tasting plate. Each guest got a chocolate covered strawberry, a mini fruit tart and a slice of DELISH cake from Rolling Pin Bakery. Everyone LOVED this tasting plate and the pastries were amazing.

The Best Maitre D and Bridal Attendant: Joe and Pat! Whoa! Talk about good old-fashioned service. Ben and I were SO impressed with how smoothly these two made our day run. I honestly didnt know what a Maitre D did before wedding planning and I cant picture not having him there. He was honestly our rock. He took us carefully through the day and often did things that helped us really live in the moment and be stress-free. He helps make sure you eat your dinner and have a moment with your husband. My husband and I got stuck in a conversation with a guest and he was able to pull us away so we can eat our dinner, which I was THRILLED I got to do because he gave us a taste of all 3 dinner entres and they were just amazing! Pat was SO sweet and very relaxing to have around if youre a nervous bride. Walking into the reception, my bustle broke and she carefully and expertly used a safety pin to pin it back up and it felt more secure than the original bustle was! Also shes very quick to keep your train pulled out nicely when youre taking pictures. Shes there to help you walk and hold your bouquet in shots that dont require the bouquet. A bunch of my favorite pictures are where my dress is pulled out so nicely and I remember her saying to wait so she can fix it!

The extras that set Smithtown Landing Country Club apart from the rest: Donna offered to make a whole extra Hot Apple Cider station for me at the Cocktail hour and we got so many compliments on it! And at the final menu meeting, it was so cute she kept insisting we come up with more fun extras to make our wedding really personal and we ended up doing a fun Cocktail Special that she had a whole sign for! I made up the drink and she printed it up and put it in a frame. They had a nice room to keep all my stuff for the wedding that I dropped off 2 weeks before and took the time to listen to what I brought and how I wanted it set-up. The day of the wedding, everything was exactly as I wanted and I had a BIG list let me tell you! haha.

Lessings has been a wonder to work with. They have beautiful locations and the Vanderbilt Mansion at Dowling College was BEAUTIFUL!

The staff was very responsive and catered to my every need. The food was delicious and we're still hearing great things about our cocktail hour! Jason our Matre D' was so helpful and made our wedding go very smoothly.

Jen was patient and helped me through ever step of the wedding. I emailed her every month with weird questions and she answered all of them for me.

I cannot say enough about how fantastic Steve and the whole staff at the Bourne Mansion were on the day of my wedding. They greatly exceeded my expectations! The food was fantastic, the service was amazing (I was stunned that they would have multiple servers come out of the kitchen at once time so that an entire table was served simultaneously. This is service that I expect at a great restaurant, not a wedding caterer. I was so amazed as were my guests. Many people asked me if we had hired an outside caterer, and if we had hired Steve separate and apart from Lessings, because he was so on top of everything. I was a bit concerned about Lessings prior to the wedding day, as they were not always completely responsive, but I would definitely do it all over again. The Bourne Mansion may be a bit more expensive than some other wedding venues, but they are definitely worth it!

We had booked the Bourne Mansion within 2.5 hours of seeing it due to its popularity (only 3 dates were left for summer). We were absolutely thrilled with our choice because Lessings made sure that not only was our day fantastic, but that everything ran smoothly and happened on time. Our maître d', Steve, was fantastic. He was able to help diffuse the difficult situations that occur with divorced parents, and was incredibly attentive to everything we needed. He made sure that we enjoyed our night and that all the details that we cared about were done properly. The food was absolutely amazing, and all of our guests were thrilled with the cocktail hour and the sit down dinner choices. The mansion also proved an amazing setting for our ceremony with a beautiful waterfront view, fantastic photo ops, and a fantastic interior with plenty of space for all of our guests and a great rain option for our ceremony. Steve and all of the Lessings staff made sure that we had our dream wedding and if we were going to do it again, I would choose Bourne in a heartbeat.

    The Bourne Mansion
    Pre-Wedding – C
I just wanted to point out that in my ratings a C is average. Not good, not great, just average. Ben was my salesperson from start to finish. I thought he was just ok. He did his job, but never went above and beyond. He was slow to return phone calls and emails that I sent and he felt more like a typical sales guy, and I felt like a number. When I went to pick my menu I was really annoyed. We went into his office and he looked at his computer and said – oh – you are bringing in bottled beer right? Um, no – why do I have to bring my own beer? I was like W T F? He asked me a few other questions in which I didn’t have a clue what he was talking about and then after about 3 minutes, he’s like – you are Meghan, aren’t you? Um NO!!!!! I’m Christine. I was so annoyed that he didn’t know who I was. Hello – we had an appointment. Couldn’t he have looked at my file before I walked in? It just seemed really unprofessional and after all the money we are shelling out, he could at least been a little more prepared. I know I am not the only bride he has, but come on!!!! I also felt a little rushed as he just went down the list of menu items asking me what I wanted off the list. But all in all, he was okay. The not knowing who I was situation just really bothered me, but I would still recommend him!

    Day of Wedding – A++
Steve was my maitre d and Danielle was my bridal attendant. I had heard a lot of negative things about Steve before hand, so I was a little apprehensive. I met him for our final meeting and I thought he was great. He was AWESOME the night of the wedding. He was on top of EVERYTHING and kept the night on schedule. The service throughout the whole night was great and I never had to ask for a thing. The Bourne was everything I envisioned and much more. My guests were floored and still talk about the location and how great it was. I was lucky enough to have perfect weather on my wedding day, so the outside was opened up for cocktail hour and they had a bar and the raw bar set up outside. I wish I could have enjoyed it more myself! So if you are having your reception there – please invite me!! LOL

We actually got married at another Lessings site called the Meadows Edge at the West Sayville Country CLub, but for
some reason they aren't listed on this site. We loved the Meadow Edge and thought it was beautifil. The food was good, and the service was ok but not great. They were actually a little rude to deal with, but very flexible with their payment plans and all in all our wedding was beautiful.

Coindre hall and Lessings have to get their act together. The wedding was a disaster, from the rehearsal, where John did not know anything and even told everyone the wrong way of walking down the aisle, to the frantic set-up minutes before the ceremony, to the HORRIBLE food.....who serves french fries at a wedding! Not to mention the FILTHY bathrooms, that were not attended to and did not have toilet paper. Unfortunately we contacted April Tolovich and ended up with this horrible John! Went to Sweet 16 at Coindre Hall and Lessings catered. They broke a glass near serving bowls, then they used them anyway!!! My 5 year old ended up eating glass that was in her ice cream. Be careful because they hire unqualified staff. Been waiting to hear from insurance company for weeks now. My poor girl is scared to eat out now. Such a shame.
