    John and Jeff's June wedding

My husband, John, and I got married at The Maryland Historical Society. Turned our interest to the place upon a recommendation of Scott Rubin by a client of mine. So glad she did. So glad we did!
The place and Scott are first-rate! A gay wedding, you say? Not even an eyelid was lifted upon our inquiring with Scott. In fact, we are the Maryland Historical Society's first gay wedding. From moment one, Scott was professional, kind, calm, warm and sincere and very thorough in a comforting way. We were in good hands from everyone at the Society the whole experience.
The place? It is not a venue that takes your money and adequately, and antiseptically, plans for and sets up and works your event. The employees acted as if they were interested and invested so we think they were- always welcoming and professional. Moreover, MdHS is a place of history- full of proof of strife and success, talents and tribulations and triumphs. It was a good and natural choice for John and me. Also, the outside courtyard and France Hall, the provided staging rooms, and secure parking lot served our needs and guests (about 65 people) beautifully and comfortably. The talented folks at Chefs Expressions added to the event and day most successfully!
John and I are very thankful and grateful to and for Scott Rubin for his leadership and guidance and friendship. We, of course, fully endorse and recommend the Maryland Historical Society for your wedding!!
    Kindly, Jeff and John

    Best experience of my life

The Maryland Historical Society was the absolute best venue for my wedding. The mix of modern and historical was awesome and my guests loved it. Scott Rubin and the entire staff was fantastic to work with and made it a painless and effortless experience that we'll never forget!

    Perfect space for our day!

This was the hardest decision for my husband and I to make. We went back and forth between 2 venues and he asked me once night "where do you see us getting married"? So, I said tearfully "Maryland Historical Society". Best decision ever! Scott Rubin and his team were so so incredible to deal with. I, of course was slightly crazy and frantic at times, and he reassured me it would all be worked out and be done to our guidelines. He was there from beginning of the day through the end! Our guests loved the space and thought it was incredibly unique. (Cocktail hour was in the "mastodon room"! Parking was onsite and all of our other vendors had an easy loading process, which made our day less stressful. Plus, the neighborhood has a ton of dining, hotels and things to do. So our guests who traveled were able to take some time to explore Baltimore. Pricing was great to fit our budget! Our photographers had a blast shooting around the museum as well. Couldn't be happier with how our wedding turned out!

The Maryland Historical Society was the greatest place to have a wedding. We got married outside in the courtyard and had the reception in France Hall, which was a great multi-purpose/event room that was easy to use and adapt to our purposes. The cocktail hour was in the exhibit hall outside of the reception space where guests could go around and look at the cool stuff in the maritime section. Staff was extremely friendly, if not super easy to get in contact with (major budget cuts meant people were no longer full time, but would respond within acceptable time period) and had an on-site coordinator/assistant there for the rehearsal and day of, even though that wasn't mentioned in the contract. When it looked like it might rain and we wouldn't be able to use the courtyard, they offered to open up another part of the museum to our guests to compensate. They also had a decent amount of parking available to our guests, rare in the middle of Baltimore. Overall I loved having my wedding in such a special place and if I was going to spend a lot of money on a venue, I'm glad it went to a non-profit that could really use the funds.

We choose the MDHS because it had an outdoor option with an indoor backup, didn't have 1 exclusive caterer & could accommodate our guest list, which were our top priorities. It also helped that it was in the city, wasn't just a hall & that there weren't hundreds of wedding photos circulating from that venue already.

When we first selected this venue, we had a different point of contact, Kristin, who we absolutely loved! As our engagement went on we had our point of contact change twice which was a bit unnerving (but remained the same for the final 7 months, or so). Since it is an active museum with priceless possessions, there are limitations, which are to be expected, such as no red wine, no flames, no confetti, no affixing to the walls, etc. etc. Though I had my reservations, Leigh was able to work with us in the end to get us everything we wanted (within reason) and we're greatful for that! Also, the pricing was great, especially compared to the other venues in the area, even with a preferred catering list.
