Fall Wedding
We had my daugher’s wedding at Mohican Gardens this past October 2023. Keith was very helpful and responsive to all of our questions especially since we were nervous about the planning process. The venue is beautiful and has lots of photo options. My daughter’s ceremony was outside and it had rained earlier that day. I loved the idea that we could easily move the ceremony inside if needed. The greenhouse reception was absolutely beautiful at night and I am still getting comments on how nice it was. I highly recommend this venue!Mohican Gardens's reply:

User1989572 Sent on 12/30/2014This was an awesome place, the setting had such a uniqueness too it that without major decorations it looked amazing. Our reception started at around 1hr before dusk and went until around 9:30pm so the sun went down at the beginning of our reception (winter). The garden looked absolutely amazing when the sun went down, the lighting was perfect. Keith was extremely easy to work with and worked very hard to organize the plants in a way that we wanted. In my opinion this place is a great deal, not just for the price, but also for the hidden savings of not having to buy flowers and being able to utilize your own catering service. I would warn you that if you visit keep an open mind as you will see it in its greenhouse state, but rest assured on your wedding day it will look absolutely amazing. Our wedding was in the winter, so I can't speak for the summer climate conditions, but the venue was an excellent temperature. I would highly recommend this location to anyone interested in a unique affordable venue. -

Wedding Ceremony and Reception
Mohican Gardens was a great choice for a summer wedding venue! Keith and Mary were very friendly, professional, and fun to work with during the wedding process. The abundance of flowers in the conservatory decorate the reception on their own so a ton of flower decorations are one less thing to worry about! It’s a very unique and beautiful place to hold a wedding :)Mohican Gardens's reply:

We had an amazing wedding at Mohican Gardens in June 2022. The owner, Keith, was responsive and helpful to my husband and I. However he was extremely rude and unprofessional to our venders (you have to hire all outside venders here, including bar staff, caterer, coordinator, everything). I really don’t leave any reviews if I can’t give 5 stars but I feel this should be put out there for future brides and their venders. I was very disappointed in his treatment of my coordinator in particular on my wedding day and then to my calligrapher on social media by leaving a very unprofessional comment on her post of the work she did at the venue because she chose the wrong location. Just very demeaning, condescending and unkind to others in the industry.
The venue could also use some work/updates. Some of the areas I saw on Instagram where other photographers took amazing photos were now in disrepair and littered with trash. The parts we had the wedding at were fine but some of the grounds surrounding the area have been neglected.
Overall the venue property is gorgeous, it’s just unfortunate to feel the need to leave a less than perfect review over the treatment of wonderful venders who made my wedding day and this venue everything it could be.Mohican Gardens's reply:
This wedding was absolutely stunning! Hillary had a vision and we did everything we could to make it happen. That being said, there are times when people need to trust the venue owners. If you are hiring a day-of coordinator, have them included in the entire process---including meetings and walk-throughs with the venue. That helps everyone to be on the same page.
The wedding coordinator hired for this wedding showed up after all of the venue had been set up per the bride's directive at the final walk-through. She proceeded to insist that we move everything around to different locations and started demanding things from our staff. We were trying to protect the bride's vision as expressed to us during our meetings with her. The only other interaction with the wedding planner that was less than stellar related to the multiple large rugs placed on the grass at the ceremony site---when I pointed out to the wedding planner that I wanted them removed from the grass immediately after the ceremony, I was considered rude. I did not want large patches of dead grass left for the next weddings.
The calligrapher did a beautiful job on the flower pots and I even told her so via Instagram. My comment about crediting another venue was taken wrong and I immediately removed the post and contacted the calligrapher to apologize. We had a lovely interaction and we will definitely recommend her to future couples.
Our venue used to be a retail greenhouse. The areas that have been neglected are the side greenhouses that are no longer in use. As with every venue, there are "service areas" that are not kept pristine. Those areas have indeed been let go and will eventually be repurposed, but we have not had time to do that and have focused our attention on the public spaces of our 25 acre venue. These areas have never been part of the rental and are not even shown when couples tour the property. -

I will start by saying this facility is pretty, however what happened at the reception was only described as a Brides nightmare. Right after the reception started it started to rain really hard. Suddenly water came pouring in the middle of the building. Guests were scrambling to jump out of the way. Our pastor was sitting right by where the water came pouring in. I was literally in shock. It was obvious this didn't take the owner as a surprise. The drains were backing up with water and there was standing water on the floor. The "dance floor area" had a door wide open that was never closed with rain. coming in. This wasn't a regular door we could just close. We were originally told we could decorate the day before only later to be told no because "things would get damp". They were cleaning while we were trying to decorate. They wouldn't open any windows or turn on fans during the day while decorating and pictures were taken. Everyone was sweating. The groomsmen had to leave the facility to get dressed due to the dirty back room that was hot and had mouse poop in it. The Brides dressing room had mouse poop present also. I rented the facility for the entire day only to find a rehearsal going on in the barn that I was never told about. After that a bridesmaid walked into the dressing room only to find two women from that rehearsal making out, after they had trashed the room. They left behind a jacket and prescription glasses. I complained to the owner the next day, he apologized and said he would investigate this. That was 2 weeks ago. I never heard anything. There were so many negative things that happened that day. This is only part of it. I will never recommend this facility.Mohican Gardens's reply:
We've struggled with how to respond to Paula's review since we got such glowing compliments from everyone about how we handled the storm as they were leaving at the end of the night. In fact, everything seemed to be fine when they picked up their decor the next day (something that we normally require the same day, but offered since things were so wet).
Yes, we did get water inside the greenhouse for about 30 minutes during the torrential storm. We had to close windows briefly due to the extreme winds, but they were opened again once the worst of the storm had passed. We left the doors on the east side of the greenhouse opened to let some air in, but since the wind was coming from the southwest no rain came in. As to the fans, there were 9 ceiling fans, two large wall-mounted exhaust fans, 4 geo-thermal heat pumps and two evaporative coolers running. It is always hot in a greenhouse during midday on a sunny August day and we tell everyone that it cannot be cooled down until at least 5:00 when the sun is no longer overhead. They chose to pose for pictures inside the greenhouse at 1:30 in the afternoon instead of using the gardens where they could have been in the shade of the trees.
We NEVER allow decorating the day before an event and any of the 200+ couples we have hosted can attest to this fact. We had all of the tables placed with linens ready when they arrived to decorate at 9:00, as we always do. We continue to clean right up until the guests arrive---something that has to happen since there are live plants hanging all throughout the greenhouse.
We have one dressing room available for the bride and her attendants. It is fully vacuumed before each wedding unless the couple stores decor in it the night before during their rehearsal. Most groomsmen get dressed off-site, but if they need a place to "hang out" once they arrive we have offered use of our soil room in the back of the greenhouse. That's the coolest spot and it is offered as a courtesy. There are pots and bags of potting media as well as tools for the greenhouse. It is definitely "dirty" much of the time. No, it is not a dressing room.
We have always done our best to accommodate rehearsals the day before a wedding. After reviewing the itinerary for a wedding, we have scheduled rehearsals for the next day's wedding around when they are using each of the facilities at our venue. Normally, we have had no problems with this arrangement. This ceremony had concluded and the guests had moved into the conservatory for the reception. The rehearsal normally would have been held on the wedding field, but due to the downpour we moved this group into the upper part of the barn (that was not being used by the other group) so they could rehearse and get to their rehearsal dinner offsite. We were not made aware of any interaction between the two groups until Sunday night via email. If we had known, the issue would have been addressed immediately. Due to this experience, we are reassessing our rehearsal policy and will make sure nothing like this ever happens again. -
