For any bride who has ever been scared by the CLOWN MAKE-UP look at someone else wedding, or simply anyone who wants to look both natural and glamorous at once...
Morgan is the absolute best (and if you don't believe me, just scroll down and soak in all the fabulous reviews). She did make-up for myself and two others for my recent wedding and everyone, despite being a make-up phobic bunch, was extremely happy with the results.
Morgan was extremely receptive to my feedback post trial about wanting to change the look slightly, and she had several great recommendations for me to do a little research on products before the big day. She was thorough and thoughtful in our conversations leading up to the wedding day which speaks to both her professionalism and her personality.
Morgan has a very calming energy-- she is funny, sweet, and focused. A true professional- she comes in and gets right to work, checking in with you along the way- not only about the make-up, but about how you're doing/feeling "do you need water? champagne?" as well as being your voice when you need - direct quote, said in sweetest possible way- "I'm going to be a meanie and say that no one is allowed to ask the bride a question for 5 minutes." And they LISTENED to her. Even if you didn't need make-up done, I would recommend Morgan to just be a presence. But her work is seriously fabulous. I had major apprehensions about foundation and overall make-up cakey-ness and Morgan guided me in the right direction, listened to where I felt comfortable, and managed to achieve the perfect look for my wedding day. She even threw in one of her very own lip pencils when last minute we all decided the lip shade I had picked out was too bright! I am looking forward to the next event I can have Morgan for, and my maid of honor already wants to have a make-up session with her. WOW. I never felt as beautiful as I did when Morgan did my makeup for my wedding. She was amazing to work with and listened to everything I wanted. She was so easy to get along with and took her time. I seriously lucked out getting her for my wedding and I would tell anyone who wants the most amazing service to book with Morgan asap. Morgan was absolutely incredible.
Before the wedding, I was really nervous about just about everything -- but especially about makeup. I don't particularly wear much makeup and so was nervous about striking the right balance between being the best version of myself but also looking natural. When I looked through Morgan's portfolio, she seemed like the perfect fit for me -- and she totally was.
Both at the make-up trial and the day-of, Morgan did a beautiful job of my make-up. My make-up was very natural but everything about it was flawless -- my skin looked even, my eyes looked brighter, the whole thing! And even with airbrushing and a few eyelashes added, all of it was very light. I honestly forgot I had makeup on. And that ol' husband of mine couldn't stop commenting on how great I looked, which is the goal, right?

My experience with Morgan was fantastic. I ended up doing two makeup trials before the wedding. I felt completely assured with the trials that Morgan would create a beautiful wedding look for my big day. Every time, Morgan was on time at my apartment, very communicative, and planned out a wedding day schedule for myself and 6 other ladies makeup.
Also, all of her makeup practices are very hygienic and my skin felt totally fine after the wedding (no breakouts or weirdness). I am so very happy with the makeup Morgan provided for myself, my mom, my mother in law, and 4 ladies in my wedding party that were different ages and different skin tones. Morgan rocks! I could not have been happier with my wedding day makeup. I felt like the best possible version of me - which I think is exactly how you want to feel on your big day. I know my mom and sisters - who Morgan also made up - felt great about how they looked as well.
It's also worth mentioning that Morgan is not only a talented makeup artist, but she has a great personality and presence as well. I liked her from the minute I met her at the trial. I also had second thoughts about how I wanted my eyes to look after the trial. I got in touch with Morgan and she completely listened and made the changes on my wedding day.
I know combing through potential vendors/collaborators/artists for a wedding can be overwhelming. Let me make it easier on you - book Morgan for your wedding! You won't be disappointed.Morgan rocks! Morgan is AMAZING!!! When planning my priorities for my wedding, my makeup was one of my top priorities since it would be a highlight in my pictures that would last me forever. I had a makeup trial done in SD by another makeup artist and it turned out horrible! It looked ok from far, but close up I looked awful.
I kept researching and found Morgan Gates. I set up trial make up run with her and was extremely happy with the results. I looked good from far and up close which was equally important to me since I would be talking up close to so many guests at my wedding. I happily booked Morgan on the spot. I bragged to my bridesmaids how amazing she was, and convinced them to have her do their makeup as well. You can just tell by the way Morgan does her own makeup, that she is a professional and you will look great! :-)
Morgan happily said she would come to the venue early to start my bridesmaids makeup before mine. However, a week before my wedding, my venue told me that I would be charged big bucks if we showed up any earlier. This was a huge problem because my bridesmaids had no where to go for Morgan to do their makeup. I suggested to Morgan that maybe we could do the other girls makeup in the parking lot. Well, Morgan having a heart of gold decided to bring a team of other make up artists with her, so they could do my bridesmaids makeup at the appropriate arrival time, while she would strictly work on me, and graciously said it would be at no extra charge.
That meant the WORLD to me!!!! I had 1,000 things to worry about for my wedding, and Morgan graciously offering that took a huge weight off my shoulders.
My wedding day makeup looked even MORE amazing then the trial run! I couldn't believe how beautiful I looked. Her work took my breath away. I took one look in the mirror and wanted to cry, but didn't want to ruin her amazing job! I knew I would look beautiful and flawless for my wedding pictures and for all my close up conversations at my wedding.
Sure enough I got compliments alllll night long on how beautiful and flawless my makeup looked.
My wedding pictures came back and I couldn't be happier with how my makeup looks in the pictures that will last forever. She made me look like a princess on the most important day of my life. When you look at my wedding pictures, my makeup really stands out on how romantic and flawless it is.
Many other makeup artists would have looked at the situation of not being able to arrive to the venue early and just said "oh well." But Morgan has a heart of gold, is sincere, and truly cares about people. Her main concern was about not making me stress on my wedding day, and for that I am forever thankful to her for. I truly know she is going to be a powerful name in the makeup industry, so get her now!!!!!!!!!!! I promise you that you will not be disappointed! If I could give her 10 stars I would. She is a true professional and you can tell she is passionate about what she does. I would recommend her to anyone and everyone! I would use her again in a heartbeat for any other special occasion! Morgan did my make-up for my wedding in 2007. I was going for the classic 1950's look and she did an awesome job. It was exactly what I wanted and I felt beautiful on my wedding day. Enter Morgan Gates.
Lately I've had bad luck. Some icky personal events, plus my skin is changing and I'm feeling, well, sun damage-y. Too much sadness and insomnia.
Prob was, professional headshots were #1 on my to-do list. I needed real makeup applied by a real makeup artist with practical, real expertise. In other words, I needed to be camera ready -- and fast.
Morgan Gates understands lighting. She's not some gloss-wielding cutiepie stranger you meet for a fleeting 45 minutes when you're a bridesmaid, or facing a major dinner date, or meeting somebody's uncomfortably stunning ex. Morgan Gates is a professional. My professional photographer agreed. He couldn't believe how great her makeup was, and the guy sees professionally applied makeup all day long.
Morgan achieved the perfect balance of polish and natural. My skin never looked better. Just the right mix of glamour and reality. And the photographs were perfect. Not a pixel over- or underdone.
No Photoshop required. I'm 45. That's pretty amazing.
Morgan is charming, sweet, funny, a pro through and through. Plus she's a Jenny Lewis of Rilo Kiley lookalike, gorgeous, with red hair to die for. Morgan has better hair than Jenny, though.
With her artistic eye, practical knowledge, professionalism, great work ethic and calming spirit, Morgan is perfect for bridal work. I've been married twice and served as a bridesmaid many times; I know.
This girl would make Kevyn Aucoin smile. She is bound for editorial heights in LA or NYC. San Diegans, partake of her talent while she's here. I sure will.
