We have lived close by to The Paper Factory for several years, and since we were getting married in Long Island City, we decided it would be the perfect place to stay during our wedding weekend. When we arrived there was a very lovely and romantic setup, which made the weekend even more special. The Penthouse room is stunning, and it was perfect for the bride and her bridesmaids to get ready on the big day. The groomsmen were able to lounge downstairs and play on the table shuffleboard and listen to music in the morning hours before getting ready. The next morning, we had a brunch for our families, and the staff - particularly Daniella - worked very hard to make it all come together. They generously accommodated our whole party, and everything was delicious. The Paper Factory is a terrific choice for a New York getaway, or a full wedding weekend!

Things were admittedly a bit of a rollercoaster ride starting out. Despite having done many events, including some weddings, it seemed as though we were their first "traditional" wedding. So, there was a bit of a learning curve for everyone, ourselves included, as we worked through all the moving parts and intricate details wedding planning typically entails.

That said, once we were over those speed bumps, things turned out fantastic. I think the first thing that needs to be said is that they were deeply invested in putting on a great show. Maybe it was the fact that this was their first big wedding (100 people), or because of my winning smile and good looks. Either way, when things got especially rocky, they moved heaven and earth to get things back on track. There was no nickel and diming along the way; just a focus on making the best event possible.

The food was fantastic -- which was one of the key reasons we chose them in the first place. The event staff was ample and friendly. And the run-of-show went off without a hitch, which could have been tricky considering our wedding took place across three rooms. I think the one thing that was a bit of a shortcoming was the number of people staffed at the bar during cocktail hour. Everyone loved the drinks, but we did hear that the wait was a bit long.

The initial issues probably had to do with too many cooks being in the kitchen (figuratively speaking); but once things got ironed out, the artistry shined through. They became partners in developing an unforgettable evening; not just managing the venue space. We had already become known to the staff as diners. But after the wedding, they became our family. The owners, executive chef, sous chef, and day-of planner have all become an extension of The Plazas.

I think that's what set Mundo apart from the rest of the venues we looked at in LIC. Despite the early obstacles -- which will disappear in time, as they do more weddings -- we felt like kin, not clients.

We've been eating at Mundo for many years, and were psyched when they re-opened their restaurant inside of the Paper Factory Hotel just before our wedding. The menu they put together had something delicious for everyone, and they took their time in a good way with each course, so that people did not feel rushed. The restaurant is not open just yet, so I'm sure the service will only get smoother once the doors open to the public. We had a great time and felt like family.

I'm really happy that we had our wedding reception at Mundo. The food is absolutely amazing, the venue is beautiful and the staff is super helpful and willing to work with you to make the event exactly what you want it to be. Their partner vendors are also great and very affordable (specifically their DJ). I will say that the management is not the most organized. We had a couple of slipups, although they were minor (for instance, my table settings were set up by table number rather than in alphabetical order which makes no sense). If you do not have a day-of coordinator or someone looking out at the venue the day-of, I would be a little concerned. But overall the day was an absolute success and everyone had a wonderful time. Aesthetically and food-wise, it was really incredible. Just have someone on the lookout for those details if you want things "just so"!

    Great place for wedding photos

The Collective Paper Factory was our hotel of choice for getting ready and many of our pre-wedding photos, including a first look and family portraits. It was also where many of our guests stayed because of its close proximity to the wedding venue (The Bordone LIC). Overall, I was pleased with my experience at the Paper Factory. The most positive aspects included how photogenic the spaces are, from the rooms themselves to the indoor and outdoor spaces on the lobby level. The rooms themselves are also well appointed if not on the smaller side (which is normal in NYC, I suppose). My few small complaints had to do with some difficulties with the online booking system and using our group rate; our sales rep telling us we could use the beautiful atrium for photos free of charge whereas the day before the wedding we learned it was a $500 fee; and difficulty getting adjustments to my suite that I had requested weeks in advance, like adding tall stools or chairs for my bridal party to get ready. Nevertheless, we and our guests had an overall positive experience and we'll always cherish this hotel as an excellent backdrop for many of our wedding day photos.
