My fiance and I Loved planning with Ivan from the Picnic Basket to plan our wedding buffet. Not only are the options customizable but we felt like we really did have endless options to choose from which is great because this allows for you ad a couple to really select items based on your preferences and your theme. On top of everything, they are so well rounded in taste, presentation, and are helpful for planning for the day of. The best thing we have picked in our area! You can't go wrong!

My husband and I used Gourmet Food Works (Picnic Basket) to cater our wedding in October. It was fantastic. The caterer was on the list given to us by our reception hall. They definitely had one of the best values of food for the money spent. At our taste testing, my parents, husband and I left absolutely stuffed and we only ate a fraction of what was provided.

We received SO MANY compliments on the food from our wedding guests!! The staff was very polite and always checking to make sure that there was enough food for the guests. They provided additional salads than what we were supposed to be given which was a huge plus.

The owner, Amin, was a little pushy in some areas such as where to put the bar and the DJ in the venue and us purchasing a cake from a bakery instead of having the dessert table. However, in the end, he went with what we wanted. Stand your ground!

I would highly recommend this caterer to anyone!!!

AMIN IS GREAT, albeit a little pushy. Make sure you stand your ground to get what you want.
The food was delicious, and the staff were very friendly.

We received SO much positive feedback on how delicious our catering was! "That's the best food at a wedding we've ever had!" The food really is delicious, and the staff is very well organized and prepared. The assorted dessert table option is absolutely fantastic.
My only friendly piece of advice is to make sure you document exactly what is included versus not included during your planning conversations. Don't be mistaken - the Picnic Basket will do whatever it is that you need! But you need to specify.
The team is a real pleasure to work with!

The Picnic Basket was a recommendation of our coordinator's, KJS Weddings. We never would have found them without her! They were a fabulous combination of quality and value.

From the outside of their little cafe in Libertyville, you would never know that the Picnic Basket caters weddings. They are a popular little cafe in Northern Chicagoland, famous for their soups. Our tasting was a lot of fun -- Amin and his wife Kathy are such nice people. We found their food to be good quality and their prices EXTREMELY reasonable. They were also very flexible, allowing us to put a fall spin on our menu without breaking the bank.

The weeks leading up to the wedding (as all the catering details were hammered out) were slightly frustrating. We definitely had a few communication hiccups. There was push back on everything from buffet layout, to glassware and utensils, to soup and coffee. (For example, when we booked in February, our soup selection for the buffet was not a problem. In October, soup on a buffet seemed to be impractical, a hassle, and "messy.") However, we pressed forward.

Then, the day of the wedding ...WOW! This vendor, by far, blew me away (more so than any other that day). As I walked into the venue with my husband, I definitely felt we were given upgrades that I had certainly not expected. I was thrilled -- it was like receiving a wedding present from the caterers! They did such a nice job, their staff was so professional, everything looked so good! We received raving COMPLIMENTS on the wedding food! (Whereas, at most wedding I have been to, the subject of food is politely ignored as it is historically awful!)

As far as constructive criticism goes, 1) As mentioned, communication was, by far, the biggest downfall of our business relationship, and 2) When they cut our wedding cake, they cut the two smallest layers of our cake, leaving us with the largest (bottom) tier. (Traditionally, the larger two layers are cut and the couple freezes the top-most layer for the 1-yr anniversary.) It made for a burdensome amount of cake!

Overall, however, they did an amazing job.
