We hired Portrait of Light for our wedding and I was honestly not very happy that we hired them. I initially hired them because the price was very good for the services offered and I liked the creativity of the photos on their website. However, I do not feel satisfied with the overall experience. I did not feel the professionalism was great for several reasons. First, when I was speaking to the photographer a month in advance of the wedding to plan final details, they were hesitant to talk with me at that time rather than 2 weeks before the wedding. I asked if they would like to reschedule the call to 2 weeks before the wedding, but they agreed to have it at the time we planned. We went over the details, however they did not seem to write anything down because they called me the day before the wedding asking to clarify several details that we had already discussed several weeks before. This was stressful for me because it did not seem like they were prepared for my wedding. Second, when I was booking the photographer, I initially wanted to book them for a longer period of time so I could get getting ready photos in the morning with my bridesmaids. I asked if they could come several hours before our wedding and meet us at the hotel where we were getting ready, and they said no because the time was too early in the morning (I was asking for 8 am or so, nothing ridiculous). Instead, they wanted to meet us at the venue one hour before the wedding to take photos. This was not my preference but I agreed since it seemed like it would be enough time to get some photos before our ceremony, and it would save us some money. However, the photography team was late. This is completely unacceptable on a wedding day, especially when the time has already been limited to take photos. We almost did our first look photos on someone's cell phone because the photographers were late - completely unacceptable. Third, we did not get any professional family photos taken. This was very upsetting to me. I had been planning to give the photographer a shot list, but in the busyness of the planning leading up to the day, I did not have time to put one together. However, I feel it is the photographer's job to ensure family photos get taken. I was very upset that there was not time budgeted for this. We did have a tight timeline for photos, but this should have been priority. If the photographer was willing to be there for more time like I had originally asked, there would have been more time for family photos. This is the thing I regret the most about our wedding - not having these memories captured to look back on. The only family photos we have are the unprofessional ones taken on peoples' phones. Thank goodness we at least have those. Lastly, we were only given a DVD with our highlight video. Our photos came on a USB, but the video was only available on DVD. Seeing as my husband and I do not own a DVD player, it has been difficult for us to access our video. We were told we would not be able to get the video in another format until the photographer purchases a new software and they were not able to tell us when that would be.
Overall, the photos that we did receive were beautiful. They came out very well, but the process of getting there as well as the lack of family photos were a real disappointment. I would not recommend this photographer for weddings - they would be better for other kinds of photo shoots.Guided Imagery's reply:
I am sorry you feel this way , I apologize that I had appointments earlier that day and couldnt change the time to come earlier , also I asked which family member were present and that you wanted photos with but none of them seemed to be around and no 1 was sent to round them up for photos or I would have gladly taken them . And I did tell you I would re make your slide show as soon as I could and asked you if you did get it to play , it does say dvd in the original agreement but I was going to make an extra, different type just for you . We were not late , we were on time and we did plenty of first look photos , I always double and triple check details, as they do tend to change, I dont think that should be degraded and the time you had for a photographer wasnt as long as you're saying you needed now . That's not fair at all . Your wedding reception went beyond the time we were hired for and we did stay at no extra charge and took photos till the venue was cleaning up and the DJ was done . Your wedding was beautiful, you were beautiful and the photos were wonderful. I'm very sorry you felt the need to leave this type of review
