Beautifully Bridged Our Differences with Unity and Love
My husband and I are an interfaith couple: I'm LDS and my husband is agnostic. In the course of planning our wedding, I was admittedly most anxious about our ceremony. I wanted the day to be meaningful and accessible to our family members and friends as well as fully embody who my husband and I are as individuals and as a couple. Rev. Monica Dobbins' name came up both in recommendations I received from friends and in my own research. In reading about Monica's life and faith journey on her website, I found touchstones with my own. In our initial call, both my husband and I were blown away by how thoughtfully Monica listened to us, asking just the right questions about our individual perspectives and worldviews, our mutual values and partnership, and tricky family dynamics. We both left that call feeling filled by her openness and warmth and immediately booked her as our officiant.
Monica really proved her worth the month of the wedding, when nerves were beginning to set in. After a logistics call, Monica graciously agreed to meet with me personally to discuss some of my fears around getting the ceremony right, talk about where I was in my own evolving faith, and truly minister to my heart. Her responsiveness and genuine kindness helped ease my fears and prepare me to be truly present on the big day. And what a beautiful day it was. Rev. Dobbins' sermon radiated a spirit of unity, light, and love that fully captured who we are as a couple and connected with our friends and family members from a spectrum of backgrounds: from very religious, to formerly religious or working through religious baggage, to those with little to no experience with religion. Rev. Dobbins beautifully ensured that all felt acknowledged and included, and many of our friends and family came up to us sharing how meaningful, inclusive, and uplifting our ceremony was. Rev. Dobbins was truly a godsend and a dear friend to us, making our day both memorable and deeply meaningful.
