Great Food and Great to Work With

We had a breakfast-for-dinner style buffet from Sage and Swift, and it was awesome. Our tasting with them at Watts Grocery was a strong representation of the way the food was on the wedding day, and we could tell Tammy would be attentive to every detail of our guests' dining experience. They were easy to work with to adjust the menu from our tasting notes, and even sent us home with warm homemade apple strudel! On the day of the wedding, the food was really tasty, and many of our guests remarked to us how good it was. Everything felt really special and like a lot of care was put into it, and our guests with dietary restrictions were well taken care of as well. Also, just putting it out there, their Krispy Kreme Bread Pudding is to. die. for. Probably one of the top 3 high points of the reception for me.

Terrific catering for our wedding reception

Sage and Swift did a wonderful job catering our wedding reception! The food was delicious and the service was great! Tammy organized two tastings for us at Watts Grocery: one for the food and another for the wine. Due to an approaching hurricane, our reception venue had to change at the last minute, and Sage and Swift did a great job of accommodating this unforeseen shift.

We selected Sage & Swift to cater our December wedding and could not have been happier! We wanted a menu that would fuse my southern heritage with my husband's Latin American heritage while still accommodating our gluten-free and vegan guests. We were planning our wedding from NYC and had a conference call with them to discuss our budget, dietary restrictions and overall menu goals. As soon as Sage & Swift sent us a proposal we knew we wanted to work with them. They had found a fun, original approach to incorporating everything we had discussed while still meeting our budget requirements. They suggested a trio of quesadillas (1 meat, 1 vegetarian, 1 vegan) that would ALL be gluten-free (and came with their unbelievable homemade salsa - the best salsa I've ever had!), fried oysters and shrimp with grit cakes, grilled salmon with sautéed Swiss chard and an amazing vegetarian antipasto selection.
We communicated primarily with Tammy, the events coordinator for Sage and Swift. She was always prompt in email responses and was incredibly helpful in answering questions and making adjustments. The banquet manager for our event, Hayley, was wonderful! She introduced herself to us at the beginning of the evening, got us drinks from the bar and made sure the serving staff checked in with us frequently to see if we needed anything. They were also incredibly helpful in packing up and distributing leftover food at the end of the evening (those quesadillas still tasted amazing at midnight!).
We got delicious, locally-sourced food and wonderful service from Sage and Swift. I can not recommend them highly enough!

Good food was a crucial element for our May wedding, and Sage & Swift totally delivered. They have a local, sustainable mindset, so you know where your food is coming from, and it is delicious. They are cognizant of what is in season, and provided recommendations based on what is fresh and plentiful. We also used them for our bartending needs, and they provided a nice rage of local craft beers from around North Carolina. Planning with S&S was efficient and stress free. They were available for any questions we had, and also followed up with us to confirm details and timelines--paying close attention to what was needed. Staff is professional and accommodating. And again, the food was delicious. Can't recommend S&S highly enough.

Sage and Swift recently catered my daughter's wedding at Duke Gardens. Right from our first meeting, Tammy and her staff did everything she could to make this a great experience. They worked hard to come up with a great menu, and their pricing was very reasonable. Above all, they really made the planning process personal and fun. Their execution on the wedding day was top notch. Hayley was our captain and she made sure that everything ran smoothly. The food was hot, delicious and plentiful, and lots of our guests asked who the caterer was. Overall, I couldn't recommend Sage and Swift more highly!

Sage & Swift did a simply amazing job catering our wedding! Their staff at the reception were great, very friendly and professional. We chose to do a "cocktail-style" reception with heavy hors d'oeuvres and it was so fun to choose the little finger foods they provided. I was a little worried that there wouldn't be enough food, but I was wrong! All of our guests had plenty to eat, and it was all flavorful and delicious. They also prepared our wedding cakes for us, which was so convenient (I really tried to streamline the process by working with as few vendors as possible). We had 5 or so different flavors of cake and they all seemed to be a big hit, especially the ones with fruit filling, like berry or lemon. I found them to be very accommodating and easy to work with, although sometimes response times were just a tad slow. Overall a really wonderful experience and I would definitely recommend using their services!

This is a great catering company, and they do a lot of weddings so they are real experts. They helped us with a lot of the planning too, and were great on the wedding day, in answering questions, having boutonniere pins handy when we were having a crisis. They also came out to the venue with either me or my Mom twice before the event to do the layout. They helped us with choosing the menu, and with keeping prices down. They were great.
The actual food on the wedding day, I can't really speak for myself, but the guests all said the food was really good.

Fantastic food and service - slow on communication

Sage and Swift catered for both our wedding and a separate celebration with friends a few weeks later. The food and service was excellent for both events, and Sage and Swift was able to fully customize both menus. They were also able to accommodate severe nut allergies. If you choose them, though, you should be prepared for slower communication. That said, everything turned out well, on time, and with a high level of service the day of.

Plated dinner for 110 that felt like it was made for two!

Going into our tasting, I initially wasn't the biggest fan of working with the woman who was our initial point of contact (no longer working with Sage & Swift) and had the mindset of "If this food knocks it out of the park, we'll still go with it" and dang if it wasn't the best meal I ever tasted!
Their sample menu shows a variety of options and pairings along with associated prices for reference, but they were so accommodating and customized every little detail for us! We had a plated dinner with three options of a bacon wrapped tenderloin, herb and goat cheese stuffed chicken breast, and vegetarian stuffed ravioli all with seasonal veggies and potatoes that were to die for. You would think they were just cooking in an intimate setting and not replicating these meals for 110 guests all at the same time! My husband LOVED the beer battered shrimp with chipotle aioli which was one of our apps. and they even had a separate plate brought to us to snack on while guests were at cocktail hour.
They coordinated our dinner rentals, and were very detailed nnd worked with the rentals accordingly to make changes based on guest count. They were also very detailed with their server/staffing needs to provide the very best service!

They also have a restaurant in downtown Durham, called Watts Grocery, and if you haven't been....GO!

The food was delicious!! We loved it and our guests raved about it. They did a great job with our Indian/Southern US hybrid food request. The staff really went above and beyond - it started raining 30 minutes before the ceremony and they ran right out to rescue things in the downpour. Our wedding planner did say they were a little difficult to get ahold of in the planning stages, but the walkthrough went well and they certainly came through on the day of.

We are both foodies, so the food really mattered to us. We chose Sage and Swift because the food at their tasting was awesome and they were really nice. Unfortunately, the food at the actual wedding turned out to be just OK. The chicken, which was juicy and had a nice sauce at the tasting, was dry and unsauced at the wedding. Some of the dishes (like the rice) were cold. Also, they didnt do anything to make the buffet tables look nice. They just plopped down a couple of small plates on large tables so they looked weirdly empty.

The food definitely was not bad. We just had higher expectations, so we were disappointed. The quality of the food (with the exception of 1 or 2 dishes which were great, like the pasta) was not good enough for the price or equivalent to what we thought we were going to get.

I am really torn about Sage and Swift. On the one hand, the food was excellent and they were very helpful when it came to making accommodations for guests with allergies, etc. The service staff at the wedding were excellent - attentive, professional, and friendly.

However, I felt the service throughout the planning was really not what it should have been. It was already difficult given that we were planning our wedding from abroad, but early on they assured us that communicating by email would be no problem. Well, that didn't seem to be the case. They would often take weeks to reply to my emails and then still not answer my questions or send the updated quote that I asked for. Up to the last minute, they were asking me for information I had already sent them weeks or months earlier and they even realized they made errors in their estimates for things like service costs. I felt this was terribly unprofessional.
