  When we started planning our wedding we knew we needed to find good food. We decided to look into BBQ and found Simply Marvelous BBQ. We went to do a tasting and talked about what we wanted for our meal. Everything we tasted was spectacular and it was hard to narrow down. We went with smoked turkey, brisket, garlic mashed potatoes, veggies, and salad. For appetizers we did a fruit and cheese platter, pulled pork sliders, and a smoked salmon crab cake. The food was delicious!!!!
  
  Throughout the planning Step and Jamie were so responsive to all our questions. They were so patient through all the changes and additions we did and made the process so pleasant and easy. My husband and I were provided appetizers as we were taking pictures (which were amazing) and when it was dinner time we were served at our table first so we could eat while the guests got their food. Before we walked in for our grand entrance we walked through the area where the fruit and cheese platter was and there was crumbs left! We nibbled on the cheese and fruit for a few minutes and we could have finished off the platter!
  
  I was a little worried that with buffet style that the food might look messy but Steph and Jamie had it set up beautifully. I can not stress enough on how good their food is. It is a week after our wedding and we are still having guests tell us it was the best food they ever had at a wedding.
  
  We did try Jamies desserts at our tasting(we didn't have them at our wedding due to budget constraints). Her desserts were sweet and delicious! I definitely recommend them, she is a very talented pastry chef.
  
  We also used their bartenders and they were funny and personable and the guests loved them.
  
  Thank you Steph and Jamie for providing the best meal at our wedding!

  We met Jamie and Steph early in our search for a caterer for our wedding in Ojai. They were wonderful people, bringing us into their home for a tasting, and the food was absolutely outstanding. The sides, the meat, the desserts. I'm not kidding when I say Jamie made me the best cookie I have ever had in my life. EVER. And Steph's meat and sides are absolutely fantastic. I'm not a huge carnivore myself, so what stuck with me were the mashed potatoes. Heavenly. Unfortunately, we had to move our venue which meant we couldn't bring them in to cater in the end. If we could, we'd book them in a heartbeat. They were professional but down to earth, not to mention extremely affordable; and the food was outstanding.

  Simply Marvelous catered our wedding at Gainey Vineyard in Santa Ynez in March.
  They did an amazing job! I would recommend them to anyone.
  Their professionalism and warm, generous attitudes through out the whole process was so welcomed through out our wedding planning madness. The food alone sold us on hiring them as it's the best BBQ and Peanut Butter cupcakes we've ever had. Their team's level of quality in food and service at the wedding only added to the positive vibes and what was an incredible day. I hope to hire them again for a future event. They are the BEST! I assure that you will have nothing to worry about when hiring Simply Marvelous as your caterer. They were thoughtful, generous, and sincere and great allies during what was a stressful yet fun time in our lives. Thank you, thank you, thank you Steph and Jaime!

  Don't let the "BBQ" in the name fool you. This is not your average "BBQ" joint on the wheels–this is food at its best, combined with outstanding service and tasteful presentation.
  
  I've had the good fortune of eating Simply Marvelous BBQ at several catered events. When it came time to plan my wedding, SMBBQ was my first and only choice. Even though I was already confident in the food and service, I had no idea how THRILLED SMBBQ would leave my guests and me on my wedding day.
  
  THE FOOD: I'm a big fan of their pulled pork, but went with some more popular dishes among our friends and family for the wedding. We started with passed bacon wrapped meatballs, smoked salmon crab cakes, and cheese/fruit platters. These appetizers thrilled our guests and were presented with style. The bar setup was also attractive, clean, and professional.
  
  The meal was salmon, smokey turkey breast, and NY sirloin roast. The sides were garlic mashed potatoes, grilled asparagus, salad and rolls. All of the meat was smoked to PERFECTION. We had compliments all night and for days afterward about the quality of the food. Several people literally called it, "the best food they'd ever had at a wedding."
  
  I also caught one of my wedding party members (after a couple of glasses of Cab) yelling, "the mashed potatoes are so good, I want to fill my purse with them and take them home." Needless to say, people enjoyed the food.
  
  A note about PLANNING: Planning with this vendor was particularly easy. SMBBQ is also great about helping you to coordinate orders with other vendors.
  
  If I had to do it again, would I choose SMBBQ?

  Not only did Stephan Franklin and his crew provide the most delicious bbq and desserts, they were extremely professional and enjoyable to work with throughout the whole process; planning to wedding. Our venue was logistically tough and they executed perfectly.

  Yum, yum and YUM! Great comfort food and Stephan is absolutely amazing to work with. For the tasting he invited us into his own house and treated us like family, complete with wine :) Eating Simply Marvelous is like being in your grandma's house on a Sunday evening. Simply Marvelous = simply delicious!!

  This review is way overdue... Our wedding was last April, and i'm only finally getting to doing the reviews! If I could only base the ratings on the food, this would be above and beyond five stars. I would like to preface this piece by saying that the food is exemplary... so astounding, well worth every. single. penny. Steph is the King of BBQ, really and truly... I can't sing his praises enough. He is very personable, involved in his business, and a master of his craft. I would eat his food everyday if I could. My relent of a full five stars comes from the service that came along with the meal. I guess can't complain too much because the price of the staffing was more or less built into the price of the meal, and we should've probably guessed it wouldn't necessarily be top-notch. Although, we did pay a bit extra to have bar-tenders "at the helm" as well. Our wedding was the best day of our lives and the majority of our guests said that it was the best wedding they had every been to. The only complaints (albeit minor, and not really affecting the overall feel of the wedding) were all with regards to the staffing service, and very particularly the bar service. We also did notice a couple things in the moment/on the day of unfortunately. Ice - they ran out... and/or simply weren't really using it. We had to have a groomsman go out to buy ice because we thought they simply hadn't brought enough (for a small, 80 guest wedding). Bartenders also didn't seem to have any idea what they were doing, a good majority of our guests seemed agree on that fact. They were slow, uncaring, and out of sorts the whole time. Not to mention, when the toasts started - no suds had been poured prior. So all the guests were toasting with their ice-less waters (including the Bride & Groom). All of this aside... I would enlist Steph all over again with no regrets - but perhaps hired a professional staffing service to go along with the exceptional meal. Marvelous BBQ indeed! Thank you Steph!
