    Perfect Maine Seaside Wedding Venue

Our wedding at Spruce Point Inn was absolutely the best day! We HIGHLY recommend having your wedding here. It is the perfect place to spend a weekend with your friends and family. It has woods, ocean, sunset, and it feels like you're at a summer camp in the best way! Due to their diverse setting, you will get so many fun photo backdrops for your special day.

We did not have a wedding planner and we did not need one, Lisa and Betsy helped us make our wedding day dreams come alive. They recommended vendors and gave honest feedback on what works best in the venue and for guests. We trusted their opinions and would recommend working with them to anyone. Planning a wedding in 2020 was especially stressful, but having SPI as our venue and partner helped put us at ease. They worked with us on ideas and back up plans. Safety was of great importance to us and them and they made sure the necessary precautions were taken.

All of our guests were impressed with the food, and so were we. I didn't think it was possible to have food that good at a wedding, but they were able to duplicate what we tasted during the tasting on the larger, wedding day, scale.

Overall, our wedding was so fun for us and our guests. I wish we could do it again! This venue is the BEST! Looking forward to visiting again and again.

SPI was an absolute dream wedding venue!

Spruce Point Inn was an absolute dream venue for our wedding. From the oceanside cocktail hour on the deck to the wooden cathedral ceilings and atmosphere in Pemaquid Hall, this place could not have been more perfect. The SPI staff was top class and made sure our wedding day was exactly what we had envisioned.

Betsy was incredible to work with and seamlessly coordinated our day from start to finish. We had multiple planning sessions leading up to the wedding day and she was always available to answer any questions we had. She took care of every detail, big or small, and ensured that the day went smoothly. We can’t thank Betsy enough!

We are so lucky and grateful that we had our wedding at SPI. SPI now holds such a special place in our hearts and we are excited to continue going back for many years to come!

    Beautiful Resort

The venue is beautiful and we loved having all of our family and friends be able to stay on-site and just walk from the venue to the cottages, without worrying about transportation. Amazing sunsets and all of our guests raved about the views and fun things to do around the resort throughout the weekend (smores station, kayaks, pools/hot tubs, boats, bikes, game rooms, cornhole, bars and restaurants, etc.). Also dog friendly without a weight limit so our black lab could join us on our big day!

    Our Perfect Wedding!

We fell in love with Spruce Point from our very first visit (in the middle of February)! The Spruce Point team, venue and food is incredible. When we started to plan our wedding, we were looking for a venue to spend a memorable weekend with our friends and family to celebrate our wedding-- and Spruce Point was perfect. The team at Spruce Point are experts and make the planning process so easy and stress-free. The entire weekend was relaxing, and we were truly able to enjoy time with all of our friends and family. We can't wait to return!

Spruce Point Inn Resort & Spa's reply:

    Hi Diana,
You and John were a lot of fun!
We were honored to have been selected for your wedding celebration! What wonderful memories you have created.
Thank you for the glowing review and we will see you this year for your anniversary.

Our wedding weekend was absolutely perfect, and we could not have been happier with selecting the Spruce Point Inn as our venue. The staff were friendly, always eager to help, the food was wonderful, and the location and atmosphere was beautiful. Our friends and family still talk about how incredible everything was and how they cannot wait to go back to the Inn! I would highly recommend this venue.

We fell in love with Spruce Point Inn from the moment we drove up to the property! We toured many venues along the Maine coast and Spruce Point stood out as a full package. The inn has a laid back and calming ocean vibe while also being surrounded by pine tree woods with hiking trails so we felt like it was the best of both worlds. We had over half of our guests traveling from out of state and the majority of our guests stayed right on the property. The ceremony and cocktail hour location was picture perfect on the oceanfront deck and we had the reception in Pemaquid Hall which is only a short walk up a path away. The SPI staff were so accommodating to all of our wishes - from signature cocktails to specific appetizers that weren't on the menu. Our guests enjoyed being situated in Boothbay Harbor which offers many sights and activities for a weekend stay. The food, service, and coordination was amazing! Our guests raved about the food, cake (included from a local baker), and how servers from our wedding reception remembered guests names the next morning at our farewell brunch. We highly recommend SPI as a wedding venue choice!

My husband and I got married at the Spruce Point Inn in August of 2017 and it could not have been a more perfect experience!

The exceptional work that SPI did for our wedding was above and beyond in every sense of the phrase. It was a truly seamless process from start to finish and I felt like I was walking around in a dream on our big day. Our guests were blown away by the level of service, attention to detail and incredibly smooth execution of everything.

We’ve gotten amazing feedback from so many of our family members and friends — they can’t stop talking about the friendliness and professionalism from the staff, the food, the decor, the overall vibe of the resort…pretty much everything one could think of, they were raving about it! The food was unbelievable - we had steak and salmon and everything was cooked to perfection. Our signature cocktail was a blueberry mojito and it was a big hit! Our cake was prepared by Sweet Sensations in Rockport, SPI's affiliated bakery, and everyone said it was the best wedding cake they'd ever had.

The event management staff was the BEST. They were so calm and so extraordinary in all the ways that I needed them to be there for us. Everything we needed, they were one step ahead of my thinking, anticipating whatever needed to be done in exactly the way we wanted it.

From the very beginning, Spruce Point Inn was our first choice venue and I know that I will always look back on our wedding day with amazement and gratitude at how the SPI team brought our vision to life. It was nothing short of absolutely perfect.

My husband and I knew we wanted to get married in Maine (my home state) and by the ocean if possible. We looked at a few different venues from southern Maine up through the midcoast but as soon as we drove up to Spruce Point Inn we knew it was the place for us. The property is impeccably maintained the views are like being in a living postcard. What goes completely unmatched to any other venue is the quality of the people working here. Cindy, Sonya and Betsy are your ladies and the best team you could possibly have. From start to finish they have weddings down and they have seen it all. While they're experienced at hosting weddings at this venue it will be anything but cookie-cutter. You can really have the freedom to create the event you envision and can make it as personalized as you like all while having support through the entire planning process and day of to see the dream come to life. The Inn has a variety of accommodations to suit couples, families or large friend groups. Especially important to us was that they were able to make the entire day very easy for some of our older guests with golf carts to help transport from place to place. We got married on the oceanfront deck in July and celebrated with a reception in the Pemequid room. This space with the tall ceilings and grand entrance staircase couldn't be more perfect to have fun with your family and friends! The dance floor is already there which is one more thing you can cross off your to-do list and SPI has a bakery they work with for cakes that not only look beautiful but taste delicious. I really can't say enough good things about this place and especially how wonderful Cindy, Sonya and Betsy were! Thank you so much for making our day so special and we hope to visit the resort again soon <3 (photos by Lex Nelson Photography)

The Spruce Point Inn is a beautiful property in quintessential New England. The grounds are well maintained and updated every season. Carolyn the event planner, seems to do a little bit of everything at the Spruce Point Inn and is absolutely the best contact for wedding events. She showed us the venue and her passion for SPI from the first time we met was evident. I knew she would make sure all of the important details were taken care of for our big day, and over the months of communicating leading up to the wedding everything was aligned. For our wedding we had a total of 5 events at the SPI – Rehearsal Dinner, Welcome Reception, Wedding Ceremony, Wedding Reception and Farewell Brunch.
My favorite thing about Spruce Point Inn is that everything is located right on property. We were the only wedding that weekend so it felt like everyone on the property was there to celebrate with us. Once guests arrive, they are in store for a relaxing, fun weekend. We had a lobster bake Rehearsal Dinner on the Oceanfront Deck on Friday night and it was wonderful. The food was amazing, the location perfect and a great night. After that we also had a welcome reception in the Linekin room/patio. We opted for light apps and open bar as it took place at around 8PM. Guests loved being able to mingle before the big day. Guests who stayed at the SPI had to book for 2 nights, so it was great to have something for the guests not invited to the Rehearsal Dinner to do on Friday. Many of our guests who stayed at the resort also took advantage the S’mores Bar that the SPI offers on Friday night. The SPI offered a room delivery service for the guest Welcome bags that we took advantage of.
The following day, Saturday, we got married on the Oceanfront Deck, which allowed the ladies to get ready in the Pemaquid upstairs room and do first look photos on the trail in the woods. We used the recommended make-up artist and hair stylist from the Spruce and loved our final looks.

Although we got off to a little bit of a rocky start our wedding at Spruce Point Inn was better than we ever dreamed it could have been. The staff was very organized and right on top of everything. Not a detail was missed! The food was excellent and customer service above and beyond.

Jason & the other staffers were fabulous and the wedding reception was a big hit. It would have helped if folks could have put up signs helping guests figure out the fact that the reception was being held in the Lighthouse (vs. the restaurant), but overall, the setting was gorgeous and the staff were helpful.

The Spruce Point Inn was very flexible my wedding day. A hurricane was arriving that day and they did everything they could to keep our ceremony outdoor. It was perfect. The staff was really great with the exception of one person that was supervising the bar, he was dressed like a slob and was very rude to my wedding party while we were waiting for our introductions. Our day was otherwise fantastic. The Spruce Point Inn provided a wide variety of services for our wedding. The guests loved the food, my beauticians were wonderful, the caterer was very professional and the wedding planner was meticulous

    Spectacular Wedding Experience

(Father of the bride). Our daughter's wedding in late August 2019 was spectacular, in no small part because of the venue that we chose. That early decision was not easy, because there is a lot of work and many decisions to be made from long-distance (Maryland) when preparing for the event, and the costs are more than a little prohibitive -- not just at Spruce Point In (SPI), but for all the vendors and available accommodations. However, we no longer revisit this decision because of the hard work and outstanding service and overall experience we received from those vendors, and the staff and management at SPI. Our daughter's event was a complex "fusion" wedding, mixing Sikh/Punjabi customs and ceremonies in the morning/mid-day, with an American "white dress" wedding and reception that afternoon and evening. The venue is beautiful, well-maintained and well-run. Chief among the individuals we dealt with throughout, the venue's (out-of-state-resident) wedding coordinator, "Betsy," was delightfully helpful, frank and professional to deal with. What does that mean? Well, we did not have much luck negotiating the venue off of its typical practices or prices, despite our headcount and other commitments, which left us with high room rates that reduced our numbers and the resort's profit. In another example, a desired whiskey/cigar bar also was MIA because of really exorbitant "pour" costs ($3,000 to pour 6 bottles of whiskey [??!!]-- admittedly higher-end spirits but a very small proportion -- about 10% -- of that fee). The inflexibility of the resort's Food & Beverage department was impossible to understand and never justified (whose Manager, nevertheless, was effusive afterwards in her compliments for the event and praise for our vendors, which we appreciated). Betsy played the role of "honest broker" throughout our negotiations, and I was peeved at her more than once. But all was forgiven (although evidently not totally forgotten) when we saw her in action at Friday evening's welcome dinner and then all day Saturday, virtually from dawn to midnight. Betsy has served in this role for SPI for several years, and her experience showed, as she anticipated problems, and dug in personally to the most minor or servile of problems (serving food, pouring drinks, ejecting party-crashers, post-party clean-up, and directing her largely-seasonal inexperienced workforce). In sum, the day and weekend simply could not have been executed better, and the site and resort itself, situated on this beach and bay at this time of year, was spectacular. We left Boothbay Harbor tired but happy, with nothing but fond memories, tremendous feedback from all of our guests, and a desire to return in the future (although not in the winter, which we did once, in preparation). To conclude, I strongly recommend your consideration of this venue for weddings or similar events, provided you go into the process with your eyes open -- and that you also choose your other vendors carefully. Had any of them dropped the ball, our experience could have been much different, but fortunately that did not happen. And we will be back!

    Management Issues

My husband and I had our beautiful wedding here on Labor Day weekend. You cannot beat the location, view and the general staff at this resort. This resort being Pet friendly was a huge reason why we chose SPI for our wedding venue and this place did not disappoint us when it came to that. What was disappointing was the sales and catering manager, Kayce, who is your wedding contact for the resort. Kayce’s role is confusing as the email you receive when you back inquire about your event will mention her years of wedding planning and event experience and how she’s thrown events for 200+ people. You are lead to believe by her email and the tour that she will be there for you every step of the way and the entire wedding weekend. A month before my wedding she told me over the phone that she is going to offer herself to be my “day of person” and that I can just tip her out at the end of the night. Kayce said she doesn’t offer this service to every couple and made me feel that she was doing me some great favor. Her communication and customer service skills are horrendous. I’d expect a manager with “years of wedding planning experience” to have better customer service skills. She also scheduled 3 site visit tours with other couples during my wedding day. My day of coordinator (that we hired last minute) had to stop her from entering the bridal suite with a couple while myself, bridesmaids and mother were relaxing and having hair and makeup done. It was disgusting to watch her parade around other couples for the amount of money we spent at SPI alone (over $50,000) on my wedding day. The reviews from a few years ago are no longer accurate and clearly the new owners and Covid have effected the level of service from management and what you get for the price. You will not be assigned a wedding planner like years past and Kayce will promise you the world to get you to sign the contact and take your money . My tip for any future SPI brides is if Kayce is still working there, hire a day of coordinator. For the amount of money they charge no couple should feel lied too, disrespected, have a manger directly ask me for a tip, and not have this same manager use my wedding as a way to bring in business. If you want to charge top dollar, you need to have managers with top dollar experience and customer service skills.

    Does not inspire confidence

My son’s wedding was held here August 11-13. I’ll speak to the planning and execution of the rehearsal dinner, which I offered to take off of the much longer wedding planning list of the bride’s parents.

Email, director of sales June 4. basic initial questions and “What are my options for gluten free food choices?” (We had guests with Celiac).
Three days later, after no response, sent email asking for confirmation the email and questions were received. Director responded she would “definitely have answers for me by week’s end”.
No answers by week’s end, emailed nine days later offering two days and different times for her to schedule a phone conversation with me.
Final email, June 22, eighteen days after my initial email, I again offered two days and different times for her to schedule a phone conversation with me. I gave up emailing. Why should I expect a different outcome?I
July 27, seven weeks after “by week’s end” assurance email, received call from her. Interestingly, this came just a day after the bride’s parents visited the inn to finalize details and to ask questions regarding gluten free menu items. This is just fifteen days before the rehearsal dinner.
Got mixed messages about several key issues including the venue of the rehearsal dinner (clearly Whiteclover in contract) , couldn’t use the china-could only use accent pieces-can use all the china, can’t move the furniture, rearrange the tables however you like
Email General Manager about no confidence
Phone calls with director of sales and GM 5 days before dinner. GM 1. claims the inn is fully staffed (but job openings posted right on website and our experience clearly suggests otherwise) 2. says one issue is private dinners not usually in Whiteclover. but when discussing seating plan director of sales said the two previous dinners held there kept the footprint of the restaurant. 3. says check in is at 3 p.m. while director of sales said they always try to get rooms for wedding party/guests cleaned first. Rehearsal is to begin at 4 p.m. 4. Both claim the dinner will be all we expect and maybe even better
Arrive 1p.m. day of rehearsal to go over seating, leave phone number with desk to notify us when townhouse is ready
4:12 more than an hour after the check in time given to me by the GM, the director of sales calls and offers us a room to get changed in. Drag some bags, but not all and definitely not everything we needed, from parking lot up to third floor.
After changing and heading to return bags to car in parking lot to grab the correct shoes/belt etc, the desk clerk calls out to us that our townhouse is ready. That’s not useful as the rehearsal had started without us. I’m not even sure where the groom, our other two sons and my daughter in law, who were sharing the townhouse with us, got changed .
What might be the most infuriating is that the General Manager never sought me out despite knowing my experience up until then. He remained in his office, leaving everyone else to face upset guests. My understanding is he left the property at 6pm and was gone for the weekend.
The food was delicious and the event staff was very friendly and responsive but sadly, this is not enough for me to recommend the Spruce Point Inn. Our experience with the management did not live up to the reputation of this beautiful, historic resort.

    Deceived and Disappointed

We were disappointed and dissatisfied with the Spruce Point Inn (SPI) management and their treatment of us for our August 2022 wedding. We echo what other recent SPI wedding couples have said, the previous positive reviews are not reflective of the service we received. SPI bills itself as selling “wedding weekends” specifically citing its multiple locations on the property and presenting itself as a premier venue. Verbally, SPI stated that by booking a “wedding weekend” at SPI, our event would be the main event at the venue for the weekend. They noted that if another event was held during our “wedding weekend,” it would only be a small elopement. This was an important point for us in booking SPI, as many of our guests would be traveling to Maine for the weekend.

After signing the contract, we became wary of the SPI management and the representations they made prior to us signing the contract. The original estimated catering charges almost doubled, as did the room rates initially cited during our tour in January. The SPI Catering / Event Manager, Kayce, would forget key details or re-ask for information already provided (i.e., asking us for the ingredients for signature cocktails, which we had selected from SPI’s list).

In the week leading up to our wedding, while on the phone with Kayce she started to talk us out of hosting our rehearsal dinner/welcome party on the Ocean Front Deck. During this conversation, she disclosed SPI had booked another 80+ person ceremony and reception for the Friday during our “wedding weekend,” which fell on the night of our rehearsal dinner and welcome party. She stated that she did not want to book this event, but the general manager insisted. They refused to work with us to try to alleviate our feelings that we were deceived, instead telling us that an 80+ person wedding is a “small event.” This not only contradicted what we were told when we had booked, but it made parking for our guests (who were staying at SPI Thursday-Sunday) impossible as most of the other wedding’s guests did not stay at SPI.

Furthermore, when our florist contacted SPI to schedule the delivery of the greenery to accent the Pemaquid Reception Hall, they were told to install the wedding decor (e.g., greenery on the chandelier and banister) on Thursday. This allowed our wedding decor (which we paid for) to be used by the other wedding. By the time our Saturday night wedding began, the greenery was wilted and clearly used. Additionally, for our rehearsal dinner/welcome party, SPI attempted to serve a lower-end bar package then we had paid for and prior to the start of our Welcome Party attempted to remove one of the two bars we had ordered as part of the event design.

Kayce had assured us that she would be present and visible throughout our wedding day to coordinate with our vendors. On the day of our wedding, Kayce was nowhere to be found, aside from when she was providing tours to other couples for their upcoming weddings. When I made my way to the dock, I had been told that there would be a golf cart to bring me down (so I did not have to walk down the hill in my dress/heels). However, despite our wedding coordinator (who we thankfully hired separately) trying to coordinate the cart multiple times it was nowhere to be found, as Kayce was using it to escort other couples around the property, who were looking to book their weddings.

Now with all of this being said, the location of SPI is beautiful—you cannot beat it. The food was amazing (our guests still rave about it). The waitstaff, including the catering lead Liberty, were attentive, apologetic, and hardworking. However, in the weeks leading up to our wedding day, we felt deceived and disrespected. The management, Kayce and the general manager Harper (who never responded to our E-mail expressing our disappointment and anger) behaved unprofessionally and left us wishing we booked our wedding with a different venue. It was certainly not the level of service nor the experience of a high-end wedding venue/resort.

Spruce Point Inn - Do not make the same mistake as us.

My wife and I got married at Spruce Point Inn last October. We fell in love with the property and scenery when we took our initial tour back in April 2020. Little did we know, the property was sold and was under new management by the time we had our wedding. We signed our contract with the original management/staff but ultimately got a different level of customer service from the new team.

I'll try my best to keep short, but here are the pros/cons:

    PROS:

    - SPI is beautiful! The view of Bar Harbor is amazing, especially from the Overlook Deck, which is where we got married.

    - The rooms have some age to them, especially the cottages. Regardless, they're not as bad as other reviewers have said in other posts. If you’re considering staying at SPI, I suggest the lodges. They’ve been somewhat updated.

    - The waitstaff, banquet staff, and bartenders were out of this world. They seemed like they cared unlike some people at Spruce… More on that later.

    - The food was delicious! Best wedding food i’ve ever had - Glad it was at our wedding!

    CONS:
    Where do we begin…

    - The lack of communication with Gil, the (former) GM, and the event planner would be an understatement. It was nonexistent.

    - The event planner, Kayce, is unqualified and totally unprofessional. Every step of the planning process was like pulling teeth. She never responded to our time sensitive emails until weeks later and multiple follow-ups. Kayce was also missing during reception and cocktail hour (Cocktail is a whole different story) She was routinely rude to the bride’s parents, promised them the world and never delivered. I could go on: lack of interpersonal skills, organizational skills… You name it! Do not even consider getting married at Spruce Point Inn unless you have a Wedding Planner.

    - Cocktail hour was planned to be held on the deck. The view is beautiful, it was half of the reason we booked our wedding at SPI. Unfortunately, there was terrible rain the morning of the wedding, and we had to make a decision by 10 AM (their rule) as to whether to proceed with the ceremony and cocktail hour on the deck. The team told us that we could likely get through the ceremony while there was a break in the rain, but the winds would make cocktail hour an issue. They offered to set up cocktail hour under the tent next to the hall. The bride jumped at this offer, as she was just happy to hear that the ceremony could be outside. Fast forward to cocktail hour, and it was not windy. And there was no bar set up under the tent. If it was only a matter of moving servers (which is what it seemed like in the end), why did we need to decide by 10 AM? We would never have agreed to move cocktail hour under the tent if we knew it would be like that. Also, there were no staff members present to point our guests to the new location. Management also never told our wedding coordinator (who we hired separately very late in the process, as we were getting less confident in SPI management) nor the groom of the location change. Thus the DJ was never alerted and we almost didn’t have music at our makeshift cocktail hour. The brides’ parents also insisted that they wanted appetizers to be plentiful, agreeing to pay extra for extra rounds of trays to satisfy all of the guests, and yet some of the guests never received any of the appetizers. Management should have figured out a way to make our cocktail hour happen in the location that we wanted with the amount of food requested. If the ceremony could be there, one more hour in that location should not have been an issue.

Bottom line: Spruce Point Inn promised us a beautiful setting, attentive staff and organization and they dropped the ball. Instead of joy and happiness about every aspect of our wedding, we at times feel angry and upset over how we were so misled by the management team. Unless you have a bulldog for a wedding planner or willing to constantly stay on top of management, we would not recommend booking your wedding at SPI.
