We won a free engagement session with Jen and were blown away by her photos. We already booked our wedding photographer a loooong time ago, but definitely would’ve hired her for our wedding if we could! Super fun, professional, went with all of our ideas, and we loved every shot. Great communication, as well. Can’t wait to use all these photos for allllll the wedding things. Thanks Jen! -

Jen is the best!
From our engagement session to our wedding, Jen not only made us feel 100% comfortable while being photographed (which is hard to do), but she also captured everything in a way we could never have imagined. We look at our photos and can’t believe they are ours. Her artistic eye and stealthy ways left us with photos during our wedding that we didn’t know were happening, didn’t feel intruded on or altered and made us look super cool during our portraits. She makes the whole process super easy and leaves you with a gallery that you’re blown away by. We didn’t feel like Jen was just some person we hired for our day, she felt like a piece of our day that we also really cherished. We are forever grateful to have hired Jen and we can’t recommend her enough! -

If you are looking for a photographer who will make you feel comfortable while also capturing images that are authentic to who you and your partner are - look no further. When we asked Jen to take our engagement photos within our favorite bar in NYC, she didn't bat an eye. Despite the low lighting and somewhat bizarre location, the photos were flawless. And later, when we asked her to fly to Key West for our nuptials, she was beyond excited and welcomed the challenge. She got to the island early and scouted out the best location for our photographs and let me tell you, they are absolute perfection.
The best thing about Jen & her work is that she makes you feel comfortable. No awkward posing or half-assed smiles; she really captures a couple for who they are and the photos feel authentic as a result. She's beyond professional but will feed into whatever vibe you set for the day.
The best part was that hiring Jen meant I didn't have to stress about the way my photographs would come out or if I would like them. I trusted her completely and she still blew me away! -

Kristin Sent on 10/06/2018Where do we begin to express our gratitude to Story and Gold weddings? We had a long engagement and a lot of time to research a photographer. I remember thinking, what is the real difference, a photographer is a photographer. I had spoken with a few and never was overly excited about the booking. That was until I came across Jen's page via a Google Search. Quite frankly, I got myself out of the wedding search engines and went to Google and I was so happy that I did. I came across Jen's website and her beautiful blog and that is when I became excited. More than excited!
We spoke and I remember feeling such a nice connection with Jen. She was easy going and quick witted and quirky but also serious about her business and that resonated so much. We booked fairly quickly and Jen agreed to meet us at our wedding venue a year in advance of our wedding to take our engagement pictures. Let me tell you, those pictures mean so much to me. I remember being so nervous for the pictures, wondering if it would come naturally and Jen eased all of those nerves. Being photographed by Jen never felt like being photographed. We were simply spending the day at our venue, exploring and learning the site, and along the way she was snapping memories of it. Those pictures are stunning. We have received so many compliments.
The day of our wedding, I was so happy to see Jen and our wedding day was no different. It was fun and funny and light. It was easy and not rushed or stressful. She interacted with our unruly wedding parties amazingly. Our parents adored her, and her ability to make the process feel easy. We know that we chose the right photographer for our day and I know that Story and Gold is going to have such immense success moving forward. Her work is unique, not just good. It is real, not staged. And the process is natural and fun. We loved working with Jen and will consider her for any other opportunity we have to photograph in the future. Thank you! -

This review is 6 years late, but, I have to say, Jen was the absolute perfect person for us on our wedding day. She is cool, calm, collected, nothing like me! Her energy was perfect, and captured very special candid moments, which were most important to me. I am not very comfortable in front of the camera, and although there were several portraits, she really listened and captured the feeling of the day, the little expressions, small hand gestures. She is amazing, I love her. She also did our engagement photos which are epic! My friend used her 5 years later, that is how beloved she is. You will not regret this decision, go with your gut. She will make your feel comfortable, and effortless. -

I can not recommend anyone else more as a photographer than Jen Brister. The experience was seamless from start to end and I couldn’t be happier with the end product. She has a lovely personality and has a way of making everyone feel very comfortable in front of the camera. -

Alayna Sent on 01/31/2018For a day with so many wonderful memories, it speaks volumes that Jen was one of the absolute highlights of our wedding. We were excited to work with her because her pictures seem like fine art photography first, and event photography second. We didn't want a clinical documentary of our wedding; we wanted images that were creative/adventurous in the way they captured the little, beautiful moments of the day. Her photographs perfectly did that. Many of the staged portraits wound up looking like candids, she was receptive to our (maybe crazy) ideas, and some of her edits even reflected our personal styles of photography. Jen's photos are a brilliant memory of not just the events of that day, but also capture the feelings and moments behind them.
Additionally, Jen's temperament and personality were an unexpected blessing. Look, weddings are wonderful, but they're also stressful and awkward. But Jen knows how to work with those emotions, and she was a calming influence on us the whole time. She is unintrusive, but helpfully instructive. She can laugh, and she can cry. She can quietly take pictures of the two of you in silence without it feeling weird, and she can shout loud enough to wrangle all of your unruly family together for a group photo. At no point did Jen feel like an accessory to our wedding — she was part of the team, involved and invested in making the wonder of that day happen. We were so happy to share our day with her, and I think that element can sometimes be lost in the calculus of planning a wedding. Jen is simply the helpful, pleasant, and reassuring sort of person that you want to surround yourself with during the craziness of your wedding. We can't recommend her highly enough. -

She has one of those personalities that makes you instantly feel like you're best friends. This is a perfect quality in a wedding photographer, since she spent most of the day with us and witnessed some of our most intimate moments.
Jen was able to simultaneously reassure us, direct us to how to pose, make us feel like rockstars, and disappear so we barely even noticed her presence. She was calm and flexible, adjusting plans without missing a beat when the morning of our wedding was a bit rainy.
Aside from her amazing demeanor, the photos are absolutely stunning. Jen has a great eye and captured so many sweet and touching moments in such an authentic way. Nothing felt forced, cliche or posed. We didn't want to spend our entire reception taking posed photos, so Jen helped to make sure we got the necessary family photos quickly and efficiently, and then worked her magic getting amazing candid photos of the party.
We have had so many people comment on how much they liked Jen at the event, and how gorgeous our photos are.
We would highly recommend Story & Gold Weddings for your wedding photography! -

I first hired Jen through a mutual connection for my City Hall elopement. Not only was she reasonable with her pricing, but what sold us was her enthusiasm and passion for what she does.
After our amazing city hall shoot, we knew we had to call her again for our larger vow renewal the following year. Again, she was such a delight and captured the best moments (she has such an amazing eye, it's crazy). And I'd be remiss if I didn't mention the fact that she literally fell into a fountain shooting our "first look", injured herself, and KEPT ON SHOOTING FOR THE EVENING. Even her pre-fall shot was beautiful—peep her current profile pic!
If you want someone to cry at your wedding and to climb trees to get that perfect angle, and genuinely enjoy what she's doing, JEN IS YOUR GIRL. -

Lovely, relaxed, and responsive
Working with Jen of Story & Gold was exactly what we hoped for in a wedding-photography experience. She is kind and responsive, listening to our unique requests and turning them into art. She rolled with our slightly unorthodox wedding, capturing the spirit of our event perfectly. She was communicative without inundating us and we felt well cared for throughout the experience. Perhaps the best praise I can give is that we continue to work with her, hiring her for family and professional shoots as our lives evolve. We [not so secretly] wish we could be besties with her and believe she is a true and humble artist. -

Erin Sent on 07/18/2018Choosing Jen as our wedding photographer was the quickest and best decision we made through the whole wedding planning....experience. I chose her because I liked her more casual "capturing the moment" photos, but on the day she was also able to pull off an exquisite mini family portrait photo shoot in our hotel. We had a bit of a different wedding with a few locations: court house, hotel, & party venue. She was able to transition between everything so quickly and every time I thought "ohh I hope she is getting this moment- there she was!"
Jen is everything you want the day of your wedding: kind, funny, pro-active, unobtrusive, but always there. I love love her photos so much, to the point that every time I go to make my wedding album I end up throwing up my hands and saying "ALL OF IT!". Planning with her was great, she was game for anything and had such great ideas and was able to use our venues to the maximum amount. I've had multiple guests in the months since my wedding come up to me to tell me "your photographer was the best" and I have to agree! -

Maya Sent on 08/12/2018Jen was wonderful to work with and completely flexible around our schedule and needs for our big day.
Warm and friendly, she made all of us ease and ninja-ed her way around the ceremony and cocktails to capture all the beautiful little moments we couldn't catch in all the hustle and bustle on the big day. We especially appreciated her managing to hustle to the venue and back to our house just before the ceremony to capture my father and my father-in-law constructing our chuppah. It really touched me to see that moment in the weeks after ceremony because it was such a beautiful gesture of our families working together for me and my husband, but we never could have seen it if not for Jen's lovely photos. -
