Maurisa was the sweetest! I loved working with her very much. I was planning a destination wedding and Maurisa helped make the process easier. I loved how attentive and responsive she was. There was even a time when I had sent some wedding information to Maurisa and then to another vendor and the response I got was along the lines of "Thank you, we received this information from Maurisa". My initial thought was, "Nice! Maurisa is on top of it!". Thank you very much, Maurisa for your help and expertise! -

We cannot thank Maurisa and Sweet Like Honey enough! We booked Maurisa for day of coordination for what we thought was going to be a small and simple wedding. And as it turns out, weddings aren’t that simple. Maurisa really went above and beyond from beginning to end with us, she definitely did way more than her day of coordination. She toured the venue for us, helped with vendors, regularly checked in, gave us great recommendations and really helped work with our vision and budget. She met with us the day before for a ceremony walk though and that really helped me mentally prepare for the big day. Our wedding was very DIY and it would not have come together without Maurisa. I was able to completely relax and just fully enjoy and experience the wedding day thanks to her. I’m so glad I went with her instead of others, I didn’t feel like a template wedding she really helped us achieve our vision and do what was most important to us. We hired Maurisa as a day- of- wedding coordinator for our wedding at Royal Kona in Kona in August 2023. From the very beginning, she was incredibly responsive and attentive to our needs and wishes. The day-of-wedding coordinator package required us to take some initiative, but it was a more cost-effective approach that allowed us to customize our wedding with access to professional guidance. I didn't know ahead of time but having a wedding coordinator on our big day was absolutely essential, even at our smaller wedding of 44 people. Maurisa helped make the day run smoothly and stress-free. Maurisa knows the Royal Kona resort and staff very well which was an added bonus. We would definitely recommend Maurisa's services for a wedding on the big island ! -

I am writing to share my unfortunate experience with Maurisa, the owner of SLH Weddings & Events, a wedding planning service.
Initially, we were optimistic about working with SLH Weddings & Events, given the positive first month of collaboration for my destination wedding on 9/1/2023.
As an experienced Event Producer with over 10 years of industry knowledge, I am compelled to express my dissatisfaction with the services provided by Sweet Like Honey Weddings and Events.
As we delved into the intricacies of wedding planning, it became apparent that SLH Weddings & Events lacked the necessary experience and expertise. As an event planner, I did the venue search myself and as a new planner we introduced her to new hotels and got her on two hotel preferred vendor lists.
The shortcomings included the inability to handle fundamental tasks such as contract review, vendor negotiations, budget creation, and event design. These lapses in event planning basics, including misquoting vendor estimates and errors in the wedding budget, raised serious concerns about the competence of SLH Weddings & Events.
In addition, she said to feel free to email or text for communication at any time. We received two emails and calls from her reprimanding us about emailing and texting her. We both work in corporate America, where you can respond and text back at the best time that is convenient for herself.
Furthermore, the level of customer service provided by SLH Weddings & Events was disappointing.
Communication was consistently subpar, with frequent reminders needed for essential tasks. The disparity between promised commitments and actual follow-through was a recurring issue.
Regrettably, the situation reached its peak when a disrespectful email was received from Maurisa, prompting a contract cancellation by SLH Weddings & Events just a 2 months into planning (out of the 2 months she was out of office for an elective surgery for 3 weeks) and a week before our scheduled second site visit and menu tasting.
This abrupt termination left us in a difficult position, having to scramble to find a replacement wedding planner and manage the coordination of vendors ourselves.
Of great concern was Sweet Like Honey Weddings and Events’s failure to return our large pre-paid payment when she performed minimal wedding planner duties.
The overall experience was marred by verbal abuse, inconsistent behavior, and unnecessary stress, compromising the joy we anticipated for our wedding day. It seems like she’s only done small weddings but portrayed as if she could plan larger scale weddings. We believe she was in over her head and didn’t want to admit it .
I strongly advise against engaging SLH Weddings & Events for any event planning services. It is my sincere recommendation that individuals seek out a more reliable and experienced planner to ensure a positive wedding day and planning experience.
I am willing to provide evidence and receipts to support the claims of SLH Weddings & Events’s erratic behavior.If you still wish to proceed forward, here’s legal advice we received:
Document Everything: Keep records of all communications, contracts, and financial transactions related to your engagement with SLH Weddings & Events. These documents will serve as valuable evidence if needed.
Review Contract Terms: Examine the terms of your contract with SLH Wedding, paying special attention to cancellation policies, refund procedures, and any clauses related to service quality.The wedding contract is not a consumer friendly service contract and written very one sided, particularly as far as cancellation goes.
There are no provisions that protect the purchaser. For ex. If you don't pay on time (even one day late), she can pull the amount from your account and you can't dispute it with your credit card company. That irrevocable use of the credit card provision is dangerous.
The repercussions of Maurisa’s incompetence, from contract misinterpretations to delayed invitations, have had a significant impact on the overall planning process and our peace of mind.
I hope that by sharing this experience, others can make informed decisions when selecting a wedding planner.

It is regrettable that our professional relationship ended on such terms. We’ve done over 50 weddings, and we have never had to part ways with a client before this. Despite the difficulties encountered, I believe in addressing concerns transparently.
Regarding the points you raised, there are major discrepancies in your interpretation of the situation. To clarify, all monies were reimbursed, with the exception of the non-refundable retainer and our company has no software that allows for us to take money without client authorization. Our communication, including the email severing ties, was conducted with professionalism and without any intent of verbal abuse. Additionally, I did not personally benefit from any arrangements with venues, as suggested. While I respect your perspective, I find it unnecessary to delve into further discussions on these inconsistencies, and others, as I believe my portfolio and client reviews are more indicative of our commitment and service quality.
I must, however, address the issue that prompted my decision to terminate our collaboration altogether. In reference to the disclosure of my personal medical information, it is true that I underwent surgery in April 2023, which required a brief absence from the office. I had communicated this well in advance, holding a summary call with you the day before my scheduled time off. Despite the understanding that there were no immediate concerns given the wedding's timeline, I received multiple demanding and erratic texts on the day of my surgery and subsequent days. This behavior, especially during my recovery period, crossed professional boundaries and led to the difficult decision to part ways. Additionally, this behavior, as the client had repeatedly shown to be difficult and overly demanding in this way, had previously been addressed and discussed directly and professionally. There will be no evidence of “verbal abuse” and these claims are unfounded.
As wedding professionals, we balance personal and professional and must expect mutual respect and professionalism from our clients as well. We strive to maintain a balance between dedication to our clients and the need for personal well-being.
