My husband and I were so happy we chose Tarpy's. On our wedding day, they served an amazing meal that our guests couldn't stop raving about. They have a huge menu and selection of catering options that can meet any dietary need. Their event staff are easy to get ahold of, accommodating, and overall great to work with. Not only did Tarpy's provide our dinner and bar service, but they also managed all of our rentals - from the chairs to the table cloths to the plates. Everything was set up so beautifully, exactly as we imagined, and we were so happy to have Tarpy's as one of our vendors. A no-brainer for any wedding in the Monterey / Carmel area.

I cannot say enough good things about working with Alethea Cusimano and the rest of the staff at Tarpy's for my wedding reception. From the very beginning Alethea helped me plan all the details, from large to small, and was patient and a great listener. On my wedding day the cake we had ordered from an outside vendor disappointed us, and the staff at Tarpy's jumped right in to help display the new cake we had delivered (Their chef even arranged the sugar flowers we had delivered onto the new cake). The staff at our reception was everything you would hope to have on your wedding day: smiling, friendly, and very courteous. They responded quickly to any requests and many of our guests commented on how our reception was one of the most beautiful they'd ever been too!! My family and friends all said that the food was the best they'd ever had at a reception, and the vegan/gluten free option I personally ate was delicious! Working with Alethea took all the stress off of us and our families, which made the reception something we could truly enjoy, relax and just have fun at! Thank you Tarpy's for making my wedding day an unforgettably beautiful experience for myself and the people I love.

After looking at several other venues we felt that Tarpy's was the perfect fit for our intimate wedding. Alethea and the staff at Tarpy's did an amazing job helping us plan and coordinate our wedding reception. They were both flexible and thoughtful and always considered our wants and needs. The Library Room with its outdoor patio area felt both spacious and private and allowed us to move with ease while enjoying our time with our family and friends. We have always enjoyed dinning at Tarpy's and as usual the food was excellent! Our guests enjoyed each of plates offered. Our menu included:
Appetizers - Flat Iron Steak Brochettes, Grilled Prawns, and Castroville Artichokes
Salad - Iceberg Wedge with Creamy Gorgonzola Dressing, Gorgonzola Cheese, Smoked Bacon and Cherry Tomatoes
Entrees - Maple Brined Pork Chop, Herb Crusted Sterling Salmon Filet with Tomato Relish and lemon Beurre Blanc, and Hooch Chicken
Dessert - We served wedding cake and a fruit tart from Angelina's Bakery, Homemade Pavlova and cookies provided by us and chocolate dipped strawberries from Tarpy's
Our servers were prompt and courteous and they quickly took care of all of our needs. Our guests with food allergies were served their specially prepared dishes with no problems. We are so thankful to Alethea and the staff at Tarpy's for making our wedding day everything we hoped for!

We recently hosted our Rehearsal Dinner for our son and daughter-in-law at Tarpy's. We had the ultimate dining experience for our 32 guests. Alethea and Celeste were so helpful with all the event planning. We used Sarah's Room for a cocktail hour and the Vintner's Room for the dinner. The rooms were private, warm and, inviting. We had the pre-fixe menu with salmon, ribs, and chicken. The entire meal from appetizers through dessert was excellent. Claudia our event coordinator for the evening, and all the servers were friendly, helpful and made our dinner experience so special. Thank you Tarpy's for making our event so wonderful.

Chicken breast that was poached in a lime sauce with garlic mashed potatoes and mixed veggie, there was also a vegitarian option that was excellant to (most people i know complain the veggie options are never good at weddings) we had 4 vegitarians attending our wedding and all 4 raved about how good it was! Our main server I beleive her name is Laurie was so accomadating helpful and excellent! Tarpys should give that girl a raise! My husband and I had our wedding reception at Tarpy's and it was a dream come true! From the first time we went there we loved this place. With its wonderful staff, the old Tuscan looking buildings, and the amazing food there was no where else like it!! Throughout the year that we were planning our wedding we brought our families and friends here to try the food and show off our wedding location. It was a hit and unlike most weddings where people chose chicken or fish (boring!!) we had a delicious endless list to choose from (will include menu later). This place is truly one of Monterey's hidden gems!!

Corinne helped us execute our vision from the very beginning and was always so accommodating. She even helped to set up and have meetings with my vendors at Tarpy's. Initially we were only going to use the Library and Patio for our wedding, but midway through the planning process we decided that we wanted to have a bigger dancing area so we talked to the owner of Tarpy's to use the courtyard in addition to the Library and Patio. That was the best decision we made because we had dinner in the courtyard, which was perfect with it beautiful natural gardens and ambient light in the summer time (perfect for pictures)! Then we brought in a big dance floor for the Library room where we had a DJ, cake cutting, bouquet toss, and garter toss. Finally, we had the patio where we had an open bar and we set up a photobooth (Funtastic Photobooth, San Jose, CA) for all of our guests!

As most couples do we had to also consider our budget! When we were initially looking one place wanted to charge us $100 per person, including only appetizers and the meal. Plus they wouldn't let us even taste the food. The great thing about Tarpy's was that we paid $40 per person and got to have 3 types of appetizers, a salad, a chose of 3 different main courses from their whole menu, and dessert! It was an amazing deal! We went back so many times trying to decide what we wanted on the menu for our wedding, but everything was so good and it was hard to decide! Here was our menu:
    Appetizers:
    1) Dungeness Crab Cakes with Annatto Aioli (Everyone loved these!!!)
    2) Brushetta with Roasted Garlic, Herb Goat Cheese and Roma Tomatoes
    3) Lime Ginger-Sesame Crusted Chicken Skewers

    Salads:
1)Hearts of Romaine with Caesar Dressing, Herb Croutons and Asiago Cheese
    2) Mixed Field Greens with Roma Tomatoes in a Red Wine Vinaigrette

    Main Courses:
    1) Grilled Pork Tenderloin with Bourbon Molasses Glaze, Apple Butter and Braised Red Cabbage (My favorite)
    2) Dijon Lamb Tenderloin with a Burgundy Wine Reduction and Gruyere Scalloped Potatoes (My husbands favorite)
    3) Chili Crusted Chicken Breast with an Apricot BBQ Sauce and Gruyere Scalloped Potatoes

    Dessert:
We brought in our own desert! Little mini cheesecakes (See my review for Cheesecake Dreamations, Monterey, Ca) which were a little pieces of heaven!

I love Tarpy's and I would recommend it to anyone!!

I love Tarpy's Roadhouse. I guess I have no choice though! The "Stone House" was built by my great great grandfather and the current owners take such wonderful care of it ...and serve such AMAZING food!!! The entire site carries so much history with my family and Tarpy's has given the old place such a wonderful atmosphere, I even got married there! We had our ceremony in the courtyard (I actually walked down the staircase in my big white gown to make my entrance) and our reception was upstairs in the "Library" (which was actually built as an art studio and was never a library! but that's OK!! :) and we danced on the beautiful roof-top patio. It was better than anything I could have imagined!! The staff at Tarpy's are the most friendly, clever group of people you will ever meet ...but don't forget the food!!! At the wedding, the guests ate our favorite Tarpy's dishes: The Classic Meatloaf with Marsala-Mushroom Gravy on Roasted Garlic Whipped Potatoes and Herb-Crusted Canadian Salmon Fillet with Tomato-Cucumber Relish & Lemon Butter. But if you're in town for the Castroville Artichoke Festival (as I always am!!) then don't pass up a chance to try the Fire-Roasted Ocean Mist Farms Artichoke with a Basil-Pesto Aioli. Sometimes we pull into Tarpy's just to sit the courtyard and share an artichoke!!! I know I'm giving the most GLOWING recommendation ever but I really want everyone to know that it was my family's connection to the history of the property that brought me there to check it out years ago, but it's their great food and beautiful atmosphere that convinced me to stick around and keep coming back time and again. Also, I do not benefit in any way from their business (I'm not an owner or anything) so this review is definitely not an advertisement of any kind. I just really love the place ...enough to get married there! :) In fact I posted some photos of the wedding so you can really see the site and the food and the banquet options they offer. When I developed the photos from the wedding I was asked if I got married in Italy because it looked so quaint and exotic ...even my wedding photographer said it was a photographer's dream location and went back after the event and took more photos ... but I just smile and know it's our little restaurant escape, hidden among an otherwise unassuming shopping center on the Salinas-Monterey highway ...Then I said "yes" :)

Until very close to my event, it was somewhat difficult to get ahold of the event coordinator, but once I was able to hear back from her she was very helpful and timely.

We had our reception at Tarpy's Roadhouse in Monterey. Due to our tight budget, we could only afford a 3 hour reception so it was kind of short, but still definitely worth it.

Tarpy's gives you the option to rent out different rooms for your event. They charge you a rate for renting it out for a certain period of time, and then they charge you for each additional hour after that. This was fairly reasonable and seemed to work well for us.

The menu to choose from was decent and relatively affordable per person. The main thing that I didn't like about this location was the fact that you had to purchase alcohol from them for the reception. If you chose to bring in your own wine the corkage fee was going to be outrageous, so I asked if we could make a deal, but it ended up not being worth it. The selection for toasting champagne or other wines were extremely overpriced, but I suppose that is what you get for the location.

If we hadn't had such a tight budget I'm sure the wine cost would not have been an issue. Overall, I would highly recommend Tarpy's as a reception location. They provided excellent service and were very helpful.

The venue was excellent, very lovely private room upstairs with a unique ambiance. The food was good and the restaurant was willing to change the menu options around to fit my needs. The music situation was bad, though. I had to bring my own music on an iPod, which is fine, but their sound system was weak and the speakers to the dance floor area were not working, so we had to move the dance floor to the bar area. Everything worked out in the end, I had a blast, but they definitely need to update their sound system!
