Old world charm and a beautiful setting!
My daughter has always had her heart set on having her wedding in a venue that had floor to ceiling windows. This place is as beautiful on the inside as it was on the outside. They were married in the garden which was so pretty (the weather that day was awesome) and the inside has an old world charm about it. The only thing I can say is to remember to have fans for your guests if you are being married outside. It was very warm the day they were married and it would have been nice if we had remembered to get so for our guests. My daughter has always had her heart set on having her wedding in a venue that had floor to ceiling windows. Beautiful, huge reception hall with gorgeous light coming in through those glass walls and a lovely garden area outside for photos, too! Our only issue was the limited parking.Beautiful, huge reception hall with gorgeous light coming in through those glass walls and a lovely garden area outside for photos, too! Our cater "Anthony's" suggested the Garden Club as it was what I had described (on the river and with a fountain/garden) but more in our budget. It was wonderful. The place was like a dream with the large room, windows from floor to ceiling and beautiful drapes, the lighted trees and the view of the sunset on the water. You couldn't ask for more. There was plenty of room and everyone was very helpful and flexible in letting us get in early to decorate and providing any help we needed. Yes you pay extra for tables and chairs, but it is a venue. You could use the "regular" tables and chairs for free if you wanted to save. It was perfect for our celebration!

We had the most beautiful ceremony and reception at the Garden Club! Robyn was easy to work with and communicate with. Even with changes, set up was exactly what we needed inside and outside. The place has a vintage, fancy feel that all our guests (including international) truly enjoyed. Our only complaint is that we wish we paid for longer.

Everything we wanted!
We chose the Garden Club to host our reception and the venue was absolutely amazing. We did our cocktail hour in the courtyard which has a beautiful fountain, garden, and the St. John's River as a backdrop. I cannot begin to put into words how helpful and accommodating Mrs. Judy and her staff were throughout the entire process, especially when we ran into delays with our decorations. Mrs. Judy was very thorough and responsive via email and on the phone which was comforting since this was a destination wedding for my wife and I. As others have mentioned the venue does have quite a bit of rules but none that I found unreasonable considering the value and sheer beauty of the space. This venue is perfect! The wedding is not until March but this place has everything we wanted in a reception venue-- they allow us to use whoever we want for food/cake/etc, there's plenty of space, there's an outdoor area with extra parking. The chairs and tables are included in the price AND they set them up for you according to your floor plan. I cannot wait this place is fantastic. This venue is perfect! The place was the best size, you could use your own caterer, and the location was very pretty, however the ac broke during the beggining of the reception and my cake started to fall because of the heat. The wedding was in August so many of our guests ended up leaving early because they were so hot.The place was the best size, you could use your own caterer, and the location was very pretty, however the ac broke during the beggining of the reception and my cake started to fall because of the heat. Ww had our reception in the club room of the garden club. It is a beautiful space and The value was great. Our only problem with the venue was that it has a pretty large amount of rules that they are pretty inflexible about. Everything went well, but we had to get creative to get around some of the rules, and it created. Ore work for our wedding coordinator and caterer.Ww had our reception in the club room of the garden club. It is a beautiful space and The value was great. Beautiful Venue...But Lots of Limitations
Venue hunting in Jacksonville is HARD. I didn't want an all-inclusive country club (hello markups) or a beach wedding (ew, sand) or a barn wedding (not my scene). That narrows it down quite a bit in Jacksonville. We looked at the Glass Factory but it was too big and too cold and parking sucked and the area, well, my grandmother would've been looking over her shoulder the whole time. The Garden Club we looked at on a whim, and I hated it at first. But then you see that it is RIGHT on the river, has a beautiful old brick building as a courtyard backdrop, and an expansive ballroom (one of two, the other is smaller). The chandeliers are gorgeous too. We made an appt to look at the venue and the woman I had been speaking with was "too busy" to give us the tour, so someone else in the office - who knew significantly less - gave us the tour. Corresponding with them was always a bit difficult, and I always felt like I was interrupting or being a burden when I chatted with them. The venue does have some awesome features - the courtyard, the large ballroom, and TWO kitchens to choose from, as well as onsite parking and a bride's suite. But here are the kickers. You can't rent items from another vendor that are the same as what they offer to rent. The smaller kitchen comes standard, but won't do for a sit-down meal, so you'll have to pay extra to rent the larger one. You can't have glass bottles and all of your coolers have to be up off the floor and on rubber mats (the floor is not even hardwood). ABSOLUTELY NO confetti, birdseed, flowers, or sparklers for send offs. Not sure what that leaves you with. For setup OR rehearsal, they can only tell you two weeks in advance if they are available at the day/time you want (that really cut it down to the wire for me for planning purposes). If you want to be there for setup or rehearsal, you have to pay...you don't get it for the full day of your wedding either. It's a five hour rental and you pay extra for extra hours. If they are open during that day/time for regular business hours, its $100 for three hours. Otherwise, it's $100/hour. And they aren't open past 3:30 in the afternoon or on weekends. So you'll be tacking on some money here day of or the night before. They were very prompt on refunding my deposit and set everything up pretty much how I wanted. And the venue is just DROP DEAD GORGEOUS. Plus River and Post is across the street for the after party!Venue hunting in Jacksonville is HARD. This place is BEAUTIFUL. But they have a lot of hidden charges (chairs, tables, kitchen, etc.). I told them I wanted to have my wedding there at 4:30. I was then told it had to be later, because I couldn't have guests arrive until 5 p.m. because they were having a pre-arranged meeting there (which irritated me that they couldn't move it).
They are also very picky about some things... no flower petals, bird seed, sparklers, bottles, etc. They are also VERY picky about the clean up at the end of the night... They will not return a deposit for very minor things, or charge you for it (to remove a piece of tape from a wall).

The Garden Club is very pretty & has plenty of room for a big party. We had a great time at our reception & it was beautiful....but.... Our reception was EXTREMELY hot & we had a very difficult time finding anyone to adjust the air. The floor was filth y. They kept half of our deposit for "extra time" when we made sure to be out of there when we were scheduled to be. Wow. To start attitude is everything. When you (aka me the bride) walk in to a venue and automatically they start with the cannots. That is no way to begin my tour. It IS VERY important to know these cannots but come on lady have some tact or explanation. Not just sorry nothing can be hung on the walls. What so the table decor is all I get? Okay I could maybe look past that, but then to use the exact words "the ugly brown" chairs. You are darn right they Are ugly, but is that how you sell place.I think not. Further more the ugly metal chairs wouldn't be so ugly if they just spent $50 on painting them when even spray paint would be better then what we saw. When I mentioned paint could make all the difference, she simply replied " They would still be ugly" Wow LADY WHERE IS YOuR MANAGER?? If that is how they want you to talk about their establishment to a potential client, shame on them. THE WORST THING OF ALL IS THE RIDICULOUS RULE ABOUT THE FLOWER GIRL!! Apparently, even thought you are in a flower garden, the FLOWER GIRL is not allowed to throw FLOWERS. Real biodegradable flowers. What a joke, and waste of time. Please dont waste your time if these things may bother you. Oh yeah, and the "amazing waterfront view" is blocked by the private parking for your guests. no view there just cars and metal fence :/Wow. To start attitude is everything. Beautiiful Venue, terrible service
Receptionist is very rude and unfriendly and very unprofessional. She wanted us to accomodate the staff instead of the staff accomodating us. She stated "staff couldn't get there before a certain time because they have to catch the bus". What kind of mess with that? They never answer thee phone when I call! There are a lot of hidden prices at this venue. NEVER USE THIS VENUE UNLESS YOU WANT TO HAVE A VERY DIFFICULT EXPERIENCE BEFORE, DURING, AND AFTER YOUR WEDDING! The venue is beautiful, holds a large number of guests, and is conviently located. First there is a looooooong list of rules you must follow and they won't bend even the tiniest bit on any of them. They will use their rule list to constantly threaten to charge you a penalty fee. Whenever you call and get a voicemail nobody will ever call you back, they try to be as difficult as possible at all times. We were told we could set up at 10am on the day of the wedding but when we arrived the woman in the office said we couldn't start until 11am even though the room was set up for us and nothing else was going on. We were to have use of two kitchens for our event. We did know they didn't have an ice machine so we planned on bringing in ice and storing it in the freezers. When we arrived they said we could only use one small household refrigerator freezer that would hold one or two bags of ice. We had 220 guests coming that wouldn't work. Then afterwards we had cleaned up and removed all of our decorations they told us to take out all the trash to the dumpsters waaaaay in the back or they would charge us a penalty. Fine we did that. Then the maintenance person who was supposed to lock up told us we had to sweep up and if there was any need to sweep up after our event we would be charged a penalty fee. We asked for a broom and he said he only had one household kitchen broom that was 12 inches wide to sweep the entire venue! They offer cleaning after the event as part of the rental fee but apparently taking out the trash and sweeping up every little crumb isn't part of it. They charge a high price for not much on their part and a lot of frustration and hassle for you. If i could have rated them a zero i would have but you can't do that on this site.NEVER USE THIS VENUE UNLESS YOU WANT TO HAVE A VERY DIFFICULT EXPERIENCE BEFORE, DURING, AND AFTER YOUR WEDDING!
