Amazing experience from beginning to end.

We got married here in mid June on a Friday night with 50 guests and everything was amazing. Our coordinator was amazing from day one and helped with every detail even securing tents the night before due to thunderstorms in the forecast. The food was amazing and unique as its farm to table and family style which my guests raved about. The bar was amazing with their custom cocktails and the staff was friendly and attentive. We highly recommend the venue and the staff that truly feels like a family.

    Wedding venue

We had a 50ish person wedding at The Herb Lyceum and cannot recommend this venue enough. They turned our vision into reality, and it was magical. Phenomenal, tailored food, delicious drinks, and the ambience is breathtaking. A hidden gem! We are so grateful to have trusted The Herb Lyceum to make our day so special. All our guests are still talking about how it was the coolest venue they had ever been to!

    Exceeded expectations

My now husband and I wanted a smaller wedding. We wanted a venue that was more laid-back and not crazy with their contracts and wanted to avoid rigid, larger venues. He and I have been together for 14 years so it was a pretty big deal when we decided to tie the knot. The Herb lyceum was recommended to me by a family friend. After seeing the grounds we made the decision to move forward. The venue is absolutely beautiful. It is a rustic setting, but has a beautiful elegance about it. There is a greenhouse, dance floor with a tent. There are a variety of spots outside of the barn area where guest can mingle, and spend time together. The venue is rich with history and the Groton area is absolutely beautiful. The venue is rustic without having a barn yard animal feel.

I worked with Ryan throughout the planning process. Ryan is extremely intelligent and you can feel that he has a passion for what he does. he is extremely talented with all things food, and hospitality. Ryan and the team have the Lyceum running down to a science. Ryan helped coordinate all of the bar, rentals, and answered any questions that I had. Ryan has a very calm confidence about him. That truly puts you at ease. As many know the wedding planning process is extremely stressful and requires you to make a lot of decisions. Ryan guided me through that process where appropriate. His calm demeanor always eased my nerves. He definitely got my vision.

The food is OUTSTANDING. They have a family style dinner, which initially I was unsure of, but it was absolute perfection. The food was to die for. It was extremely hard to narrow down our menu, because everything was so delicious. The beautiful thing about the Lyceum is that things can be tailored to your liking and customized if you choose. Having a family style meal, gave guests the opportunity to try everything and people are still talking about the food. The family style dinner also encouraged us to mingle and chat with one another. The staff at the Lyceum exceeded our expectations as well. Everyone was extremely courteous, kind and willing to go the extra mile. Their service was 10 stars. The food came out promptly and was displayed absolutely beautifully.

The way that they set up are , decor, and all of the small details blew us away. I have not one complaint about our wedding. Everything was perfect.

If you are looking to have a garden style greenhouse, outdoor wedding, I would highly recommend the Herb lyceum. From start to finish our wedding planning was extremely easy and organized. When I stepped into the greenhouse for first look to meet my then fiancé, it took my breath away. I really want to thank Ryan, and the entire team at the Herb lyceum. They gave my husband, and our entire family a night we will never forget. It was truly magical. I would also like to add that the flower shop in Groton lavender did all the floral arrangements for a wedding. They have a great working relationship with the Lyceum and I would highly recommend them as well. Lisa and her team did a phenomenal job.

    Can't recommend Herb Lyceum enough!

I can't recommend Herb Lyceum enough for your wedding. I just had my wedding there last weekend and the word I keep hearing from our guests is 'magical'. It's a beautiful, intimate setting that made our 45 guest wedding a truly special evening. The food was DELICIOUS, the wedding coordinator, Ryan, was a pleasure to work with and was so accommodating to make this a truly special weekend that we'll remember forever. Not one thing was out of place from what we imagined. Still in awe of our wedding at Herb Lyceum.

The BEST Wedding Venue and the BEST Organizing Team!

Herb Lyceum is the most perfect, gorgeous, wonderful garden venue run by the most amazing people. After deciding to downsize our June 2021 wedding to ~25 people, we found this place and given how much we already love Chef Will Gilson’s restaurants in Cambridge, we immediately contacted them. Rebecca and Ryan, who were our main contacts through the process, were incredibly helpful, friendly, and patient with our many questions and back and forths as we finalized our plans. Chef Will and the drinks/bar manager David worked with us to create a very unique, delicious wedding food and drinks menu that incorporated elements of my Turkish background. In the end, our wedding was the awesome post-COVID party we had hoped it’d be! The food was delicious, everything was set up so well, and all the attendants were incredibly helpful and friendly. The garden looked so beautiful even with the minimal additional decorations we brought — even with cloudy skies and some last-minute rain, we got the most gorgeous wedding photos! Overall, everything was just perfect, the whole process was made very easy for us, and everyone left feeling very happy and satisfied (people still keep telling us about how awesome the event and the food was!). We can’t recommend the Herb Lyceum as an event venue enough!

    What a Beautiful Place!

The Herb Lyceum was the absolutely perfect place to host our replanned, downsized pandemic wedding. We had originally planned to get married out of state and had to scramble in May when it became obvious that the pandemic was going to last a lot longer than people expected. Rebecca was our point of contact and was very responsive and helped us stay calm while we were panicking. If you don’t already know, the Lyceum is owned by the Chef at Puritan and Company in Cambridge (Will Gilson; please eat there if you haven’t before!) so the food was absolutely to die for. The grounds are immaculate and can accommodate anything from a small gathering (we had only 13 people) to significantly larger events. Emily was the day-of coordinator and she couldn’t have been more amazing and helpful. She set up everything exactly as we had hoped and ran the food and drink service exceptionally well. Let’s just say that my husband and I never had an empty glass! For everything that was included, the price was extremely reasonable as well. It was also featured on an episode of Top Chef which is pretty neat too. Do yourself a favor and check them out!! (Photographs by Tom Couture Weddings)

One of the first thing we did when planning our wedding was find our venue. We found this venue and it was perfect for our small group of 30, but they can also accommodate lot more people up to 150 I believe. Its a beautiful carriage house with beautiful grounds full of greenflies, lavender garden and much more. Everything was so smooth, the planning, building the menu, coordinating with the other vendors. Rebecca the event planner took care of all of this and was very promptly to respond to my emails which is a plus when planning any event. They cook the food in their kitchen right at the venue and it was amazing, everyone was raving on how amazing the food was and the servers were so kind and funny. By the way during the summer and fall they do host dinner on Fridays. Best experience ever!
Thank you also to Saxon Cross Photography for this beautiful pictures of the venue and set up

My wife and I held our 23 person wedding at Gilson's Herb Lyceum in Oct 2016 and it was totally incredible! The Lyceum surrounds a working herb farm and provided beautiful and varied settings for portraits, casual photos, our ceremony, a cocktail hour, and dinner. Each garden is perfectly curated with plants, flowers, and objects that tie together the grounds' rustic charm. With so many gorgeous settings, we got to have each segment in a different and special spot, and everything went perfectly.

Despite all of the outdoor magic, the dinner in the restored carriage house (beautifully appointed with drying herbs and farm accoutrement, no need for decoration) was the highlight of the evening. The Lyceum is known for hosting talented chefs-in-residence who prepare amazing farm-to-table dinners on most Friday and Saturday evenings. We'd been before and knew that, but were still blown away by what they prepared (the butternut squash ravioli and duck breast were superb, but somehow the pumpkin soup stole the show). Also, they're BYO which helped keep costs down and also allowed us to pick wine parings (a delightful touch).

Cathy Gilson, owner and event planner, was our point of contact throughout and our day-of site coordinator. She's the best: organized, flexible, and easy to work with. With everything on our plates leading up to the big day, we really appreciated that.

Bottom line: Gilson's Herb Lyceum is a truly exceptional venue and will hold a warm place in our hearts always. If you're thinking about using it for your wedding, book while you can. You'll be very happy you did.

Perfect location for a small intimate wedding. Cathy at the Herb Lyceum decorated the tables beautifully and the grounds were perfect for our small ceremony. The food was delicious and everyone had a great time.

I would definitely recommend this location to anyone looking to have a small, affordable wedding with great food.

We got married at this little herb farm in central MA surrounded by our nearest and dearest friends and family- a much smaller wedding than we had originally assumed we would be having, but absolutely perfect for our quiet hearts. The Herb Lyceum was exactly what we wanted for our special day: an outdoor garden wedding with a rustic feel paired with blow-your-socks-off food. No joke, almost two years later and guests still bring up our wedding meal!

Cathy was a joy to work with and, although we now live on the West Coast, I can't wait until we can get back for a return dinner to relive all of our wonderful memories!

    HIGHLY recommend.

5 stars is nowhere near enough for the Herb Lyceum, its amazing grounds, professional and caring staff, and out-of-this-world food. My fiancee and I wanted two major things in a venue—an inspiring setting, and food that our guests would be talking about for years to come.

It’s a small mom and pop, farm-to-table operation and the only place I know of where the kitchen will create an entirely custom menu based on what’s growing in the family’s farm--Potager Farm, which has a CSA and sells at the Copley Market.

As someone who works in the wedding industry I had a lot of ideas about the wedding. Cathy, the owner, Ruth, our day-of coordinator, and Bryce, the chef, helped us bring our vision to life and were a pleasure to work with. The tables inside and the ceremony outside were set up just as we wanted—really you can have there ceremony wherever you like on the grounds (under a tree, in the lavender garden, open in the field, etc.).

A big plus is they currently don’t have a liquor license so we brought our own wine which we paired with our courses, and that also saves a lot of money.

In short if you love food, old barns, beautiful gardens and are having a small wedding (no more than 75 or 80 I think), you should visit the Lyceum ASAP!
