We had a fantastic wedding at the National Civil War Museum. Everything was absolutely perfect! The venue is fantastic. From being able to have your wedding outside to having the patio for cocktail hour and inside for the reception, our day was perfect. Kate is great to work with and Marcus was also a huge help!

This venue was absolutely the most beautiful place to have a wedding and reception. Katie was so easy to work with. We won a wedding of our dreams at this location and we couldn't have asked for anything better. And since we didn't have a lot of drinkers at our wedding the ones that were had there share and Katie gave us the best idea when it came to the alcohol so we wouldn't over pay. She was amazing!!!

I loved everything about this venue when I initially went to visit, I just had to have my wedding there. The grounds were well kept and the building is absolutely beautiful! There were definitely plenty of places to take photos at both inside and out. I spoke with Kate McDermott, who is in charge of the events there. She was simply amazing and easy to work with! She was very accommodating to our ideas that we had for our wedding, and even met with my family, the caterer, coordinator, and the florist to make sure everyone was on the same page. Everything went smoothly and the day was quite a success!! I would definitely recommend this venue to friends and family!

We held our reception here and it was perfect! We did a short cocktail hour where all of our guests were allowed to walk through the museum while they waited for the reception to start. Kate was wonderful to work with throughout the entire process. It's such a unique place to do this, and the overlook over the city is amazing, especially in the fall, when all of the leaves are changing. I only regret that there wasn't really time for the wedding party to walk through the museum, but at least we can always go back!

We loved having our reception at the museum. Our guests enjoyed the venue and it was a great space to hold a reception. The staff was accommodating and very friendly. Make sure you have a person to coordinate the decorations and logistics (like showing the bridal party where to wait and having the room unlocked) the day of the wedding because the museum does not have this service. We would recommend this venue to anyone considering it for their reception.

The museum itself was BEAUTIFUL! The staff at the museum was very helpful (for what they helped us with - mainly allowing us to look at the venue on several occasions). They provide a limited number of caterers and are not flexible at all in using outside vendors to cater the reception. This basically limits your budget and food type. They have a high priced caterer, a mid priced caterer and two others, one I can't remember and the other seemed like a corporate lunch type caterer. This restriction put a damper on our budget as we had already found a caterer that was within our budget and had the cuisine we were looking for. The museum holds the liquor license and all alcohol must be purchased through them. Also a budget blower for us. We wanted a 'signature' drink to serve during the cocktail hour to cut our costs - you know buy a couple of bottles for $100 and mix it up into a punch of some sorts - in order to do this we had to purchase the number of drinks per bottle. For example the museum can get 30 drinks out of a $20 bottle of vodka - cost per drink $6 - that $20 bottle of vodka would cost me $180. Not really a way to save money like I thought!! All in all, $1500 to rent the entire building, and extra $250 (I believe) to rent the exhibits for your guests to view. It was an average venue cost for the look we were going for.

The National Civil War Museum's reply:

The National Civil War Museum is proud to announce that we now allow additional caterers as well as allow weddings to bring their own alcohol. Please call us for more information.

The venue and look were amazing, however we did not realize the location was so dangerous.
