We hosted our wedding ceremony and reception here and had the awesome pleasure of working with Grace, their on-site wedding coordinator, she was amazing. I could not have asked for a more perfect weekend. Grace handled everything from the Friday night mixer, Saturday wedding and Sunday farewell brunch. I seriously can not thank Grace or The Press Hotel enough for an unforgettable wedding weekend. -

From start to finish The Press Hotel was amazing to work with. They accommodated all our requests and were beyond helpful in the planning process. The hotel is absolutely gorgeous, with modern, unique decor and a farm to table restaurant and coffee shop on site this place will make you feel like royalty and wow your guests. From the seasonal, sustainable food and drink menus to the way the staff is always one step ahead of your needs, the atmosphere and service is truly above and beyond. Albert Thayer, our wedding coordinator handled our event with expertise and poise and I honestly cannot say enough good things about him. He is very dedicated to his craft and devoted to helping create the day of your dreams. Not to mention, he is one of the kindest most genuine people you’ll ever meet. I would chose him over and over again if I could. If you’re looking for an intimate, romantic and unique wedding experience, I HIGHLY recommend The Press Hotel and Albert Thayer. -

Our intimate wedding at The Press Hotel was a transcendent experience that is truly “beyond words.” The property is unique and awe-inspiring. With many of the original Portland Press Herald details preserved, it allows for beautiful backdrops and an atmosphere that is sure to impress your guests.
Anna Paschal is a gem... a bride’s dream coordinator! She was such a pleasure to work with, has an eye for the details, is always there when you need her and communicates so well throughout the whole process!
Chef Josh Berry surpassed his reputation known throughout Portland, ME for his cuisine at Union. With his innovative culinary skills and fresh local ingredients, he created decadent meals for our intimate dinner. He even asked about individual dietary restrictions for each guest! We hope to go back and have our same menu, cake included, for all our anniversaries to come! The presentation and taste of everything was superb!!
We would HIGHLY recommend The Press Hotel for an intimate wedding venue! You will not be disappointed .... with the 5 star hotel service, the beautiful penthouse suite that has a rooftop with a 360 degree view of Portland, gorgeous, comfortable guest rooms, the unique newspaper themed details, delicious fresh farm to table food/bar options and the people... Anna and Chef Berry in particular!!! Thank you for an unforgettable experience that really was BEYOND WORDS!

Amazing Venue!!
Anna and her staff at the Press Hotel were above and beyond what I could have ever expected for my wedding venue. We visited many venues and none of them were quite working - and honestly places we visited sort of left us feeling like we were doing them a favor when we were meeting with them.
We had stayed at the Press Hotel before and were always so impressed with the staff. What really put us over the top was once evening when we were trying to choose our venue, we decided to have dinner and stay at the Press. The sales manager, Anna Paschal knew we were coming in and arranged for some pretty awesome special treatment! It was that night that everything fell into place for us and we both were in love wit this venue.
The funny thing is that we ended up staying at the Press a few weeks later and never told anyone there we had booked a wedding and the service was completely the same - impeccable! We were treated so well and everyone from valet to front desk and bar staff was so incredibly courteous.
We continued to have this amazing service from the hotel and its staff through to our wedding day. Anna was so completely on top of everything and consistently checked in with me. She responded back to every question in a very timely way.
The day of my wedding the penthouse was breathtaking. I wanted to see the reception room set up but I was super busy getting ready, so Anna sent me many pictures. They totally nailed the set up and everything about the service on my wedding was amazing. Our wait staff was so prompt and pleasant - many guests commented on this!!
I am so thrilled to have had my wedding here. I would do it all over again if I could. We plan on going back for visits often because we love this place. I would highly recommend the Press Hotel to anyone looking to have a beautiful downtown Portland wedding.

The hotel was dreamy. The food was excellent. Every one of our guests ate all their meals for the weekend at Union and raves about it! My favorite part of the experience was working with Anna Pachal. She handles events at the hotel and union. She worked with me for a year planning this special event and I couldn’t be happier with every single interaction. She is professional, kind, thoughtful and easy to talk to. I’m so thankful she was there through the whole process. We felt so taken care of. It was the best weekend ever. -

Kate Sent on 03/13/2018We were looking for a venue in Portland, ME that would be able provide it all; event space, catering and rooms for the guests….but that didn’t have that “generic hotel” feel to it. The atmosphere, aesthetic and tone of the Press Hotel was exactly what we were looking for in a wedding venue.
From our first meeting with Crystal, we knew we were in good hands. Crystal helped us navigate the planning process and what a savior she was, as we had little free time between busy careers and grad school. She kept us on track and helped us with the little details that tied it all together. To say she went above and beyond would be an understatement.
Crystal and the chefs at Union helped us craft all the food for the cocktail hour and dinner at the reception. Everything looked wonderful and tasted even better, and as most couples claim, they didn’t get to eat at their wedding…that was not the case here! We enjoyed every bite!
The chefs at Union also created our wedding cake and as someone who is a dessert fanatic they did not disappoint! They served up tiny individual cakes with gelato on the side, it was a fun spin on “cake and ice cream”. And the reception favors! I still get texts asking “where can I buy those pumpkin whoopie pies” five months later.
The staff during the cocktail hour and reception were outstanding. I think my father put it best when he said, he didn’t notice they were there, yet his wine glass was never empty!
When we got our photos back we were floored at how beautiful everything looked. Clare Norton Photography was just outstanding. Clare did an amazing job at capturing the whole day for us, she is a real pro!
I can’t say enough great things about the Press Hotel, Crystal, the chefs and the staff. We were so happy with every aspect of the day, it was absolutely perfect!

Alli Sent on 11/03/2017My husband and I chose The Press Hotel for our wedding for many reasons, but mostly because of the feeling we got when we walked through the doors. The people are welcoming, professional and attentive. The atmosphere is upscale/modern with a warm and comfortable feel. The food... Oh the food! We could go on and on about how the delish mix of local food and flavors inspired our guests to come back again following our wedding. Our experience working with Crystal and Anna was unmatched! They met our every need, surprised us with all the little details we didn't think of and made sure our wedding was a weekend we'll never forget. The Press Hotel is a gorgeous gem set in the heart of a beautiful coastal city! It's a venue you absolutely must consider!

Claire C. Sent on 06/01/2022Convinced to go 'heavy reception' instead of seated - big mistake
At 65 guests, we were talked into ditching the plated dinner and going for a 'heavy reception' style. This is a huge regret of mine. Everyone ended up very isolated, anyway. All of my guests left hungry, they simply were not fed. There were no entrees, only appetizers. The 'action stations' they sell you on are not even close to a meal. My guests were, literally, served 1oz of beef tenderloin & a small scoop of risotto as the finale. I know for a fact the plated would not have looked like that, as I've eaten at the union several times.
Nearly all of my guests have indirectly complained about it. Stories about getting a burger after, leaving EARLY TO GET DINNER BECAUSE THEY WERE HUNGRY, jokes about the deli slices of tenderloin... my heart aches because all I wanted to do was give my guests a meal to remember. Instead, everyone left hungry & we looked like cheap skates feeding our guests only morsels of food. Since it wasn't seated, my husband and I were running around like crazy and didnt even get to pretend to share dinner together.
Worse? Afterwards I look at other wedding photos were up to 70 guests were served seated. I have no idea why we were sold on the heavy reception style when it was so meager.
Other issues: the champagne was passed before we got there, so the timing of the whole thing was off from the jump. My husband never got champagne and we toasted an hour after we wanted to, himself with beer. Apparently many of our guests could not hear the toasts, anyway, since there was a performer playing upstairs which drowned us out.
I thought this experience would be classy and upscale. It was hardly that, although the food we did have tasted good and we had fun anyway (we're married!!). I just wish I stuck with my gut on seated dinner, or just went with RiRa or literally any other venue.
