    Great Venue

We had booked The Woods Inn for our wedding before COVID hit, and we were lucky to have planned a very small ceremony from the start. We initially worked with Gordi, and then later with Nancy to set everything up. They were both amazing. Everyone was amazing! The grounds are beautiful and we were lucky enough to have our ceremony right by the lake. I believe we paid $300 for the venue, plus we ate at Overlook Restaurant which we cannot say enough good things about. (The $1,000 estimate includes venue fee and food for everyone off the restaurant menu, plus gratuity, etc.) The day was perfect in every way. All of the staff are friendly and easy to work with, and I really can't stress how amazing our wedding day was. I would highly recommend The Woods Inn if you're looking for a venue in the Adirondacks!

We were in love with the venue at first site! It's vintage Victorian style absolutely sets the perfect stage for a wedding. We were married out on the lawn with the breath taking views of 4th lake. Guests raved over the food, the views and the service. Everyone had a great time and absolutely loved the setting. Gordi was amazing! Executed all questions and concerns on time, and was there to make sure everything was perfect.

All of our other vendors recommended The Woods Inn for our rehearsal dinner, and they were 100% right. I'm so happy we went with them. Gordi worked with me every step of the way and made the whole thing extremely easy. She set us up with a beautiful location for our dinner, accommodated several last minute additions to the party, and was generally very flexible and wonderful to work with.

Everyone I talk to, I tell them I would not change one thing about my wedding day. I was familiar with The Woods Inn as I am from the Adirondacks and was so excited when I was able to book them for my wedding reception. I was married in a church in Old Forge and then had cocktail hour and reception at The Woods Inn. Gordi was fabulous in communicating with me and giving me ideas of how to decorate the outdoor pavilion. She truly is a wonderful event coordinator and has so many wonderful suggestions. She also is very calm and makes the day go smoothly- I would never be able to tell if something was wrong that's how well she stays calm and handles situations. They are so flexible at the venue, as well, and are prepared for whatever may happen (i.e. the power went out on Friday night when my guests were there and they were very accommodating and on my wedding day there was rain in the evening and were great about making sure people stayed dry in the pavilion by putting the sides up and then taking them back down again when the rain stopped and we needed the breeze). The food is absolutely phenomenal, I received so many compliments from my guests, and the prices are very reasonable. And you really can't compete with the view. It is stunning there and my guests had such a fun time hanging by the lake, swimming, etc. Part of the contract states that the 21 rooms in the Inn need to be booked the night of the wedding and the staff was great every time I contacted them to see how booking was going. My husband and I stayed in one of the rooms that night as well and it was great-very clean and nicely decorated, and Gordi even put the remaining champagne we had on ice in our room and left an additional two pieces of cake for us. It was the best day ever, even despite the rain!

    Wedding couples beware

Wedding couples beware. I inquired with the Woods Inn in March of this year for my elopement this summer. At first Nancy was responsive and quoted me a $500 event fee for a group of our size (20 adults and 10 kids "ish") and $85.00 per plate. I had no issues with this and asked about rooms for family members. She stated that another wedding was already planning to take place on that date but we could still have dinner there and she would let me know if they finalized or not since she had already blocked rooms for that event. If they didn't finalize their wedding, she would let me know and block rooms for mine. I promptly sent her a message back but didn't hear from her for a month. I messaged her again in April and she responded saying the other wedding never responded to her requests so we could have rooms (at this point our family had booked elsewhere) and that the fee was now $1250 for non-exclusive and $3000 for exclusive. I asked her kindly to elaborate what the difference was between the $500 she had originally quoted me and the $1250 or $3000. I can only assume she felt she had lost money since the original wedding party inquiring at the woods inn ghosted her and wanted to make that money up by almost tripling her original quote for me. Instead of offering an explanation, she ghosted me. Her last message was on April 27th. I followed up on May 4th and again on May 19th. When I heard nothing I sent a message on Facebook. I didn't want to make the awful assumption that she was acting this unprofessional maliciously and wanted to give her the benefit of the doubt but I had a sneaking suspicion she didn't want to explain the change in price. Someone responded on facebook and stated they would pass along my message. That was on May 27th. On June 14th I sent another FB message stating how disappointed I was in their lack of professional conduct. We really had our hearts set on the Woods Inn and I couldn't believe how mismanaged this place was. (Though after reading other reviews, I guess I can now.) Nancy finally responded today and said the event fee is $1300. (Ok, so not 1250?) She also said "To set some parameters, let me explain our policies regarding weddings. We require a minimum of 70 people, the pavilion to be rented and all 21 rooms in the inn to be rented out by your guests." Um, what? lol I mean, maybe when I initially inquired in MARCH saying we just wanted a nice place to have dinner and there was only 30 people at MOST, this would have been a good time to whip that policy out. In fact, this is what I said in direct quotes "We don't really plan to linger - just sit down for a meal together and maybe a cake." Not a reception. Dinner. The sad thing is, if she had just been straight with me from the get go or explained she had miscommunicated something on accident, we would have happily paid whatever fee. I also work as a wedding photographer and have shot a wedding there before (it may have been before Nancy owned it - not to date myself but it was a hot minute ago.) and would recommend the Woods Inn to clients looking for an adk venue or honeymoon spot. Not anymore. I know how stressful wedding planning is and your vendors need to be reliable. ESPECIALLY your wedding venue. I would highly recommend not risking your wedding day on this place.

    The Woods Inn's reply:

    Hello Jen,
So sorry you had this experience with the previous owner. We are now under new management as the Inn was sold and I can assure you that if you refer anyone to us for weddings they will be well taken care of. We just had a wedding last weekend and the Father of the bride wrote this to us. I hope this helps to ease your mind a bit on our dedication to events here at The Woods Inn.
"My wife and I wanted to drop you a note regarding our wedding this past Saturday.
We wanted to thank you for sitting down with us Tuesday morning.
As you know, we got caught up in the turn over of ownership. Things started out a little rocky in the beginning of the week.
But, Stacey kept reassuring us our concerns would be addressed. As the week went on things were perking up. By Saturday, Stacey and her staff had taken care of all our concerns.
The weather for the wedding could not have been better and everything went off with out a hitch.
We wanted to thank you for allowing the staff at the Woods Inn to do what had to be done to make this wedding a success.
Best of luck to you and the staff at the Woods Inn with the planned renovations.
We look forward to seeing them.
Thank you again for everyone’s hard work.
    Sincerely,
    George and Sue Wilmot"

I will start with the positives. The Woods Inn is one of the most beautiful places to have a wedding. It is perfect for photography. The food is excellent. The rooms are lovely for wedding guests.
Sadly, we had an AWFUL and devastating ceremony experience during our small wedding. We first booked The Woods Inn after speaking to the owner for a long time on the phone. We are from out of state, so most of our communication was on the phone or through email. The owner was very responsive and flexible with the planning, as was the wedding coordinator. Up until the day of the wedding, we were very happy with their communication and professionalism.
The day of the wedding, we arrived and the wedding coordinator told us how tired she was because it was the "busiest weekend of the year" and there was a wedding there the night before. We felt very unwelcome. She continued to be very rude to members of our family all day and even snapped at me (the bride) when I asked her a simple question. We had planned to have the ceremony on the beach area, but when we set up the chairs, we noticed the sun would be directly in our guests' eyes. She said "it will be fine." When our guests sat down and the sun WAS directly in their eyes, she stood nearby and didn't help us when we had to move all the furniture. The worst and most inexcusable part is that multiple Woods Inn staff members were talking LOUDLY during our whole ceremony. We could hear their conversations as we said our vows! I was in tears! We paid $500 for a "VENUE FEE" to only to have people eating dinner right by our ceremony and other guests sitting a few feet from us. We had to have these people edited out of many of our ceremony photos. Right before we started the ceremony, I told the wedding coordinator that it was loud and we could hear the talking down by the ceremony, and she just stood there next to a few other guests who laughed at me. Do NOT recommend for a wedding ceremony.
